3.5 - Necroposting
Pointlessly bumping of dormant, inactive threads causes confusion for other members and visitors who may not notice the original thread post date. A thread is considered inactive if there have been no replies in the last four (4) months.

Come on Ludvig, don't be silly. It was not pointless. That's a real question! This is a serious question. Look what is happening in world of gaming. Gamers tend to leave MMO style of gaming, it is dying as a gaming genre. People who are familiar with current state of MMO games know what I am talking about. Just search in google "MMO's are dying" and you will find out that massive multiplayer role playing games are going to oblivion. The biggest titles are loosing tons of players, once powerful and populated now become abandoned. WoW, GW2, LOtRO are struggling to get new players.

Yeah yeah sure but EU is 'different' - it is a 'real money'. But aren't people selling (legally or not) GW2 gold, items etc? Some of them are making nice penny.

Welcome to new world old men. World of card games, football and basketball card casinos, cyberpunk 2077 and battle royale. There is no room for MMO's anymore, maybe except WoW Classic.

EU is for sure long living kind of game but it is not eternal. The end will come someday. Keeping in mind all factors, current state of MMO's and new wave of gaming styles, how do you think. When EU servers will be closed?

I know MA does not like threads like this one and will try to find a way to close it, that is why I post this Immunity Dog which do not allow you to just simply close this discussion

Damn, he got immunity doge. Nothing anyone can do but let the thread runs

Jokes aside, I share your sentiment. Every day, almost always the same faces. You get occasional new players asking around, but they don't stay for long once they figure out how much it actually costs you to play decently.

* Non-existant marketing ("for mature gamers only", seriously???)
* chat bug (the most basic system in MMO, hello?) that took a very very long time to fix
* 130 x 26 new hunting missions that are all "Get X points from killing <insert mob here>", more to come when it hits planet partners
* buggy malls

It will end when u, me and some some others stop paying. It will also end when more and more deeds are in game and less no-lifers cycling to generate anything for the company.

I don't see any major threats for this game to stop existing in the next 10 years.
Without external factors (legality, competition etc) this game will be here for many years to come at least this is what I decided to believe in 2013 when I moved all in after studying fundamentals on their history and how people behave in this environment.

First off, I agree with the OP that relooking at some threads and posting in them after a long time gap is not 'pointless'. If some readers "may not notice the original thread post date", then move the thread into a section for the living dead, or whatever, give it a different colour to highlight its age, etc, etc, don't just close it please.

As I think the lifetime of a product is always relevant, more so if tied to an investment which can be withdrawn, I certainly consider this point irrespective of threads on the matter.

So, will enough people soon stop or slow down to the extent that EU will enter a downward spiral? No, I don't think so, but more and more areas of the game are becoming 'bleached'. I don't think that 'more of the same' will help development. However, 'more of similar' might be ok, if we like the differences. I would quite like to see space development, but there are loads of professions and activities which could also be revived (a bit like a necro thread? ;) ) usefully if MA cared to adjust them.

I bet if you search "MMO's are prospering" you would get a lot of different results.

I'm here quite a long time and there where several phases where this kind of threads where launched but atm this Project is still running.

I think little things would get a lot more fun into Entropia.

For example why not reinvent the Dropships you could get from mining:

It was much more exiting than getting only a Global to search the Dropship, kill the Bots to go to the ship and press the Button to get your Reward than a simple 50 ped Lyst Global.

I bet the code still lies around and could easily be reused.

Or what about unterwater mining? Why not make it possible once again to mine under water?

Or the save zone inside PvP was also allways a spot where you had a lot of other players trying to loot something nice ;)

So I think MA could make it a lot more interresting for their users with very littel changes/additions to the game.

I don't think we are anywhere close to that point. There are still plenty of money ingame for MA to decay, just look how quickly asteroid deeds were sold.

If I remember correctly MA gonna hire more people for development.
So if they stick to EU and stop doing odd sideprojects, develop more on a lot of excisting features,
upgrade graphics and so on they will probably be around for a while.

Funny, I hear this question for 15 years now.
Each time the game dies, the sky will fall and we will all do something else tomorrow.

Nearly 15 years, still counting and still able to log in.

nuff said.

7 more according to the latest AMA. Let's hope they are all developers, not more managers

Hey young naive, go google MUD. Four decades and counting. It's not going away. The other shit you mentioned does not appeal to a lot of people.

I believe the best single measuring stick for the health of this game are CLDs. Now, I think you get an even better picture of how the game is doing when you take into consideration AUDs, CP Shares, and activity on EntropiaLife. I will leave out Moon Deeds because the reason for lack of activity is solely due to lack of content at the current moment.

My opinion is that EU is stable. We're not seeing big growth, we're not seeing an exodus in the playerbase either. Things look stable over the last 3 years. As for continued success, its anyone's guess. What we do have is a new CEO who seems to care more than previous ones and the best goddamn playerbase of any game. Sure, we have our jackasses and crooks, but overall, I've met some of the best people I know from any game in EU.

We're passionate, and our flame as a community is strong. I think things are on a course to stay stable for several years to come. All of that could change, at any moment, and it's important the devs keep listening to the community with longevity in mind.

If those working over at EU's office get off on tangents making cell phone games or crypto currencies our potential for longevity becomes threatened, in my opinion. But, in the last year we've seen reinvestment back into the game with improved camera features, mission structures, stability patches and bug fixes. Everytime I see those type of patches, it gives me confidence in those steering the ship. I'm glad we don't have knuckleheads buying castles or continuing to invest in a failed mobile platform, but instead investing into EU.

tldr: Things are stable. We're not growing, but were not shrinking. We seem to have good leadership at the moment that is focused on improving EU. Outlook is okay.

MMOs have been around in some form or another for what, 40+ years? I don't think the genre is going anywhere, although it certainly is evolving.

Some big brands are losing players, like WoW, but some brands like ESO can't even keep up with the new player uptake.

I'm sure you can search for editorials to fit either side of the argument.

Didn't read all the replies, but I like the game a lot and way too much invested to quit ever I guess. I have finally reached 102 laser damage and 99.88 hit so finally got where I can use UL weapons at 10/10 be a shame to quit now.

Entropia survived the economy crisis 2008/2009 that gives me ample confidence they will be around for at least another decade. Also entropia dont need lots of players but only a moderate amount that spends above average. And to be honest some cash shop games are more expensive than Entropia. The time entropia was the most expensive game are long gone.

Mmo's ain't dying, they just dont grow as fast as they used to since younger people shift over to other game types.
But they are not death and never will

When they upgrade to a new game engine and crash every market again like they did at vu 10 it may shake a few folks off, but like irl bugs, beetles, and butterflies tend to come back and live in the tree even after it has fallen and is nearly dead.

In current gaming environment, as long as no gaming developer manages to take their spot in RCE game. And their greed gets under control. They won't die.

However, it may not survive if MA doesn't take the boat to VR RCE MMO. All it needs to happen is for one good competitor with VR RCE game, once VR becomes truly mainstream. And if MA becomes too much of a slowpoke, I believe it will be the end of EU. So my guess EU lifespan probably in 2030.

I think EU is mostly relying on old players and their deposits. Once big part of them are gone, they will either have to change the strategy completely or make subscription based version just to keep it functional.

P.S This is purely my opinion, based and 0 statistics.:)

Nah, as soon as entropia becomes subsciption based it will die.
Since then it will become like any other MMO.
And because MA sucks in comparison to any other MMO it will fail.
Entropia is RCE. Without RCE, no entropia.

I think you have a point there. I feel that there are so few new people that can really replace the amount of money the old depositors are bringing.

For 15 years new players have continually replaced older players leaving. For 15 years people have posted that the sky is falling...

I rescue new ppl several times a week :wise::wtg:

Well. Mayhem and batsim were correct steps into pushing EU to new frontiers. They have nothing in common with the core concept, yet they integrated very nicely. I do trust MA they will implement more and more options, exactly to bring in elements of MoBA or card games in various game modes which to open up the experience. From this pov, Compet was a good intention (in a shitty direction, but hey, can't win each time).

If it would stay static, it would surely die. It is not and I am sure it won't become.

I second that. Eu has lost a lot of fun factors. The alien dropship is a good example of this. I always had the panic, that some other player hit the button before me. But always it was super fun to get a such ship.

I must agree, no RCE, no game. I don't think I would want to 20 USD a month just to play, although I have spent way much more than that over the years.

Speaking of the dropships, it reminded me of those animations they did a year or 2 ago, it seems MA even outlasted the starfinder/pathfinders that streaked across the sky on Caly for a bit.

While MA has lasted, many of their ideas and work on new "features" has not lasted long at all. :)

I doubt EU had been developed to what it is today, if EU didn't have
the RCE... ;)

MA should do the same as Blizzard and run another game with old version. Fresh start could bring new players and old retired ones too.
From Mindark reports 2018 had more net deposits then in 2017. This year reports can show some pattern and if its also positive, then this game will be ok for a while.
Also as this is real cash economy and players are not protected enought, MA can do whatever they want to bait money or change value of items or other shiit

Well, it would be interesting to see the results of a virtual time machine, with lots of players from "the future" able to play in "the past".
Would you play on a clean slate EU and restart an avatar the same as everyone else?

However, you cannot make players "unknowledgable", so it would all turn out differently anyway, especially the mus, desired items etc. Also, what vu should MA chose anyway, and with or without bug fixes? Should they update that world, or keep it locked without further additions?
Another LOL thought - is what we have now the best EU ever? ;)

AND, are there agreements with PPs in place that the platform should not water down the playerbase any further? Reintroducing a new Old Caly would split the existing base quite a bit I suspect, even if some new players were attracted. PPs would not like that - nor would CLD and other deed holders if the 'time travel EU' didn't share the turnover with them.

Nope, the past should not be revisited if it is "alive" as an RCE, nor should EU compete with previous versions of itself...
