As the Almighty Opalo has a wide parish on calypso, including newcomers and veterans, I thought its worth to having a closer look into that gun.
During the last days I performed an experiment to observe possible effects of scopes and lasers on the Opalo with maxed stats for hit and crit ability with the intention to see if one can be better than perfect as soon as 10/10 stats have been reached.
While using scopes and lasers slightly increases your expenses for decay and offering skill modifiers, one should expect advantages in the overall performance of a weapon. This leads to the following assumptions.
Weapon Attachments improve your ability to hit a target. The amount of missed shots should decrease while usage of attachments.
Weapon Attachments improve your ability to inflict a critical hit. The amount of critical hits should increase while usage of attachments.
Weapon Attachments improve the damage you deal. The average damage should increase.
Design:
To collect data I did several runs while varying my gear. Missed shots and Crit hits have been counted, for documentation of inflicted damage screenshots have been taken.
Equipment has been: Opalo with 104 amp, once without scopes at all, then with Alekz, Bjornir, Cinclar, Elkarr and finally Elkarr plus two Dynera lasers. Each setup has been used 3 times each in various orders.
No tests were made without scopes but lasers, nor lasers on other scopes than Elkarr.
Numbers of clicks while recording Miss and Crit hits are: No Scope 2895, Alekz 2795, Bjornir 2619, Cinclar 2646. No data collected for Elkarr and Dynera, please see in results why.
For calculating average damage dealt, a number of 200 to 350 successful hits excluding critical hits have been recorded for each of the 6 setups.
While performing those tests my rifle skill was around 4.3k without chipping of any ranged related skill besides Combat Reflexes involved. Hit ability on normal laser rifles has been 3.3.
Results:
Ability to hit a target and inflict a Critical hit (in % of overall amount of shots)
No scope….miss = 8,532…..crit = 1,727
Alekz……....miss = 8,372…..crit = 1,717
Bjornir….….miss = 8,515…...crit = 1,756
Cinclar….….miss = 8,919…..crit = 1,852
As you can see in the table above, the usage of scopes seems to improve the chances to miss a shot while improving the likelihood to deal a critical hit. Anyways, those stats are so close to each others, while the Alekz setup also is not going conform with that trend, that I assume them as more or less constant. Some lucky crit hits in one setup and some more missed shots with the other might explain the spread. Also one could read that while missed shots AND critical hits appear to show the same trend, the game dynamics could just trigger one critical hit per every 4 or 5 missed shots.
The usage of the mentioned Scopes seems to not lead to a higher chance to hit a target or inflict a critical hit.
Therefore, no more data for missed and crit hits have been collected for Elkarr and Elkarr + Dynera settings.
Average Damage:
No Scope…….….16,337
Alekz……….…..…16,470
Bjornir……..……..16,540
Cinclar…….……..16,723
Elkarr………...…..16,616
Elkarr+Dynera….16,727
In the table above You can read, there is the trend to inflict a higher average damage the better the scope that is used. While the Elkarr has a disadvantage compared to the smaller Cinclar, the Elkarr with Dynera seems to give the best results. Since the Cinclar was only borrowed, I was not able to test Cinclar with Dyneras.
A View on Efficiency:
Taken from PE-Wiki.info, the following table uses costs per click in PEC, and with the average damage found before the damage per cent value is calculated. Costs include Decay for Attachments, Opalo, 104 Amp and 3 Ammo burn. Missed shots and Crit hits are not taken into consideration.
No Scope…….……5,059 PEC…..3,229 dmg/pec
Alekz……………....5,088 PEC…...3,237 dmg/pec
Bjornir………...……5,098 PEC…..3,244 dmg/pec
Cinclar………..……5,101 PEC…..3,278 dmg/pec
Elkarr…………...….5,118 PEC…..3,247 dmg/pec
Elkarr+Dynera……5,310 PEC…..3,150 dmg/pec
As You can see, the slighty better average damage of the Elkarr+Dynera setup costs to much per use to have a positive effect on the economy of that setup. Best result gave the Cinclar.
While the difference in dmg/pec is mostly in the range of 0.049 dmg/pec (cinclar versus no scope) a Cinclar Scope improves the efficiency compared to no scope at all by 1,5%.
Implications and Discussion:
This abstract has shown that the usage of weapon attachments on an already maxed out weapon can be of advantage. Once the Opalo is maxed out with min dmg at around 700 rifle skills, one can still max it out more by equipping attachments.
Using Attachments that provide a better skill modifier can improve the user’s overall damage inflicted and also a gain in efficiency.
While there was no advantage for Me at all by upgrading from Cinclar to Elkarr and also Dyneras, one could think of a reason for this phenomenon:
Cinclar provides a skill modifier of 7% and Elkarr with Dyneras 39,5%. Under the premise that skill modifier affects ALL ranged combat related skills and that way improved the virtual pro standing of the user, from 3.3 basic pro stand the Cinclar makes it 3.5 and the Elkarr+Dynera boosts to 4.6 (by imaging a linear connection).
Having laser rifle as My highest pro stand, I unlocked MMS, RDA and SERENDIPTY as skills probably to be modified. But I lack COOLNESS yet, which appears around 4.0 pro stand.
So, there might be a bonus for Me with the usage of Attachments that FIT into my skill level, as long as I stay in a pro stand that uses the skills I already have. As soon as I come above 4.0 pro stand there might be a detriment due to the lack of coolness skill.
The results of this study might give the reader some useful clues regarding the choice of equipment, but have in mind that for other avatars the results can be quite different. The "winner" setup of this study is not automatically the best for everyone else.
