I am disgusted by this move by MA, i sent a polite but firm support case asking for my views to be forwarded to the appropriate team and received a reply telling me this has been forwarded to the platform provider.
I do not understand how MA can think that affiliate marketing, the lowest of the low in terms of promoting yourself, is a good way to advertise yourself considering this universe also tries to place its self as a premium product.

Just to confirm how bad it is i viewed one of the offers available to me and after reading the small print i was selling my real world details to, among others, a site connected to the casino industry, i would receive 5 ped, or 0.5 US dollars as a reward, less than what i normally spend per minute while mining, and less than a sweater would receive for 1 hours "work".

I am sure that i am not the only one that feels this way so please let them know!

So you mean you somehow have a right to tell other people how they make their in-game peds?

i thought i was asking not telling?

You are asking them to remove this option which would force those who want to use it to do other stuff instead, so in essence you are telling :wise:

EDIT: Also, that poll is some biased crap, why would I vote in it?

i have nothing against people wanting to earn money by "filling in surveys" otherwise know as "selling your personal details to be spammed" if they wish to, i just dont see why it has to be directly connected to entropia universe and i also dont see any advantage for doing so. My view, as someone with a background in advertising, is that this seriously devalues a brand that is already struggling with its image.

If the heat this summer didn't melt down the rest of MA brains I think they will remove that shit be the end of the next week. I am stopping all deposits until they do :) I mean until they remove the sometrics shit, not until their brains melt down.

Also, that poll is some biased crap

The poll have:
Yes, No, and I dont know options. How this is a biased poll?
I'd like to know just in case I do one myself in futur.

Btw, I'm one of those who think that Entropia should not be "linked" to that kind of "thing".

well i will be the first to admit that technically speaking it is biased, although i did place the option i disagree with first (creating bias) if i had wanted to be completely unbiased i should of left it at yes/no and not added personal opinion to the answers. :)
but, its my poll so my bias :p

ah, ok.
My dumb language frontier thought that a biased poll was when the options to vote is directed "one way" only.

My bad, sorry.
I said nothing.

I guess I don't understand your issue at all with this. They are not forcing you to participate in the program, it is a choice and if you don't like it, don't do it. There is nothing to complain about seriously.

As long as they keep it as an option on the client loader or on their website and keep it out of my game playing experience I could really care less if there is that option sitting out there for others to use. Should they ever bring affiliate programs into the game and start spaming on the Megatrons taking up time on the display when my ad's can be displaying for my shop or if they make it that you must do something with affiliate programs to complete a mission, or anything of the like. Then I will join the movement to get rid of this but until it starts effecting my playing who gives a rip. I just ignore it because I do not want to do it.

BTW: If you all remember ZEHX he was an avatar that did the same thing MA just stole the idea from him I think. And hate to admit this I actually liked ZEHX program, if it was not for all the ped he gave me I'd have stopped playing in the first few weeks. But with his PED he got me hooked on the game and now I am a steady depositor. So this kind of stuff is not all that bad for the people that don't want to deposit but still want to get some PED to play with to see what the game is all about.

Also I do suggest using a separate machine to do this program on, as there is good chance some of them sites will download malware onto the computer, so use a clean build and make sure nothing important is on that system. Also use a junk email address because you will get a lot of spam emails, NEVER and I stress NEVER use your primary email address. And finally unless you actually intend on purchasing whatever the affiliate is selling never use your real information make up a fake identity so if an affiliate does sell your info it is all bogus.

That was not a complaint that was a informative paragraph. I still do not see it as a bad service for people that want to take the precautions to get the PED. It still is all a choice and if anyone feels it is bad just don't do it.

what you are suggesting is scamming the spammers, while i understand the sentiment do you not understand the impression this gives? My main worry is that from a PR point of view, how do you wish to portray yourself as a company, what kind of customers do you think "offers" like these will appeal to, what happens when someone, with some common sense, who hears about this real cash economy, and wishes to join and invest or spend money goes to the home page or opens the client loader and sees this and quite sensibly wonders if this is a reputable company he/she can trust due to the bad reputation these programs have. How MA can not know about this bad reputation is beyond my comprehension.

Keep in mind, those that want to resort to this to get ped instead of sweating, can always give fake details, that is after all the smart thing to do.

Set up a free spam email and your good to go.

Either way, imo its everyones personal choice what they use or not, if you dont like it dont use it, deposit with your own money or sweat and stfu. Its not a forced option on anyone, so i dont see where the issue is.

Assuming of course ma have done their homework and made sure the system is not a security risk to peoples accounts and the stability of eu's security.

What if you click on one of these links for free PEDs and then something bad happens, like if you get malware, or don't receive your PEDs. Many people would blame MA for their affiliation, since they clicked it from the client loader.

Is there something in place to stop unscrupulous people from creating hundreds of dummy accounts to farm PED?

hold it with all these support mails.. still have some offers to fill out.

I voted spam me for life (I use my spam e-mailaccount for these sites anyway), the sites are not connected to your ingame mail account or avatar. You can fill in any details you want.

To me this is kind of like saying: This new restaurant opened down the street. The place is infested with cockroaches and syphilitic rats so everyone who eats there gets sick. But hey, you can always just order a drink and enjoy the great selection on the jukebox. There's no need to call the health department on them.

I guess MA milked their playerbase dry with the CLDs and needs to bring in outside money to pay their bills. At least it's optional (for now :p) to sell your personal details for 50 cents.

I'm not going to bother sending in a support case about it though, because at this point I really don't care. :ahh:

P.S. No offense meant to you Stave, I'm just being absurd to make a point about why I think MA shouldn't just partner with a company that turns off a significant number of potential users.

OK whatever guess there are two sides, nothing happening here but bickering about something that really makes no difference to me so unsubscribing. Thought I'd help but apparently my view is not same as yours so I am wrong and as in most threads it just goes round and round so no need to continue on with defending my point I stated it still feel that way. I don't want to make you change yours I just wanted to state mine I guess.

Affilitate marketing is what people do since the first trade between humans has been done, people go to others and tell them they like something - everyone does that. Just because some people out there are less honest then others does not mean that the oldest and most successful art of promotion in mankinds history is bad - every day in entropia when someone helps a friend on selling a certain item or bumps a selling thread for a friend its some kind of affiliate marketing even though the person might not get payed for it. A method of advertisement can only be as good as the people practising it, so if you had bad experiences with certain individuals you should be mad at them and not at a whole marketing branch in general.
I miss the option to vote for pro mindark to complement them on their move - getting the word out is whats important for entropia and whom better could do it then the players ? If we cant speak up for the game we play then why should any other company be payed for advertising who has no relation to the product at all ?

I just hope that they do a lot more to get the word out than this.

I won't be doing this stuff, but I don't mind it being an option for others. If you want to get a few peds this way, fine by me.

i think you are mistaking word of mouth advertising, seen as the most precious of all with affiliate marketing, the lowest hanging fruit of all. a happy person promotes a product to their friends because they are happy with the product, while paying someone to promote a product to friends they would otherwise not promote risk alienating more than one person at once.

A person promoting a bad product to his friends because he earns money has a low character and its his own fault if friends dont like him afterwards anymore. A person promoting a good product to friends and earning something along the lines for helping putting the word out - i see nothing wrong in that.

the point is that a high quality satisfying product does not need to resort to this, it is already being promoted for free as you said in your previous attempt at a comparison, by your logic entropia would of grown exponentially since its inception and would not need to pay people to do this. Marketing starts with your product. You only have to look at the types of businesses that have to resort to these measure to gain clients, if im not mistaken affiliate marketing is heavily used in the online casino and pornography business. I dont see ferrari doing this.

You seem to have the missed the point completely. This is not a marketing strategy, it is a means to generate additional revenue.

Yes, generate additional revenue and also probably to increase newbie retention a bit at minimal cost.

oleg, why?
i love opening a can of worms as much as the next guy, but that can i left unopened on purpose, because if this is how desperate MA is what can i say?

That doesn't have to mean they are desperate... maybe they simply saw this a good way to allow a little more money into the game so they can improve loot in general and through that improve retention?

EDIT: Like, I guess, they did with the ingame ads before?

Are you asking me why MA want to make more money?

you mean instead of improving loot the old fashioned way and not taking 27% or whatever the staggering amount is. :)
if they want to stay the corner shop forever who am i to argue with that :p
anyways, enough of this i have probes to drop.

You know telemarketing is coming don't you! LOL

"really, wow! I am a naive, employed, 35 year old man! Tell me more"
"well sir, please give me your personal details and email, I will ask you fill surveys and I will give you twenty cents to play this awesome game for 1.2 seconds!"
"fuck me, you serious!?"
"Sanjeet, mate where do I sign up? Hold a minute, let me tell my friends about this great opportunity!"
