not sure if thais has been posted before, feel free to trash it if it has.
Seems quite old but I don't see a date on it
http://www.stratics.com/content/portals/entropia/content/interview/interviews/mindark.php

What is your function within MindArk?
Marco: I'm in charge of concept development and the community representative.
Thommie: I'm in charge of Web development and the public relations manager.

How long have you been working for MindArk?
Marco: Since January 29th 2002.
Thommie: Since June of 2000.

What would you change about Project Entropia if you could?
Thommie: Nothing, I'm happy with the big picture of Project Entropia .
Marco: Since it is extremely complex it takes a lot of time to find errors. An easier way of getting rid of bugs would be good.

What would you improve within MindArk if you could?
MindArk: Since Project Entropia has reached a new phase now, improvements are being made all the time.

What is the funniest things you have ever seen in Project Entropia?
Marco: A Faucervix commiting suicide by jumping from a building in Hadesheim
Thommie: During the stress test there were many funny things happening such as compasses spinning around and animals hanging and spinning.

When playing Project Entropia what is it you do the most?
MindArk: Since we need to test all things in Project Entropia we are pretty much doing everything possible. But with our unofficial characters it's different. Thommie is into trading and trying to buy and sell things in Project Entropia. Marco on the other hand has started hunting a little more than normal. And of course visiting player events like the Cape Korinth party was very good fun.

What was your biggest challenge creating Project Entropia and how did you overcome it?
Thommie: The entire project was an enormous challenge.
Both: To tell people what Project Entropia really is. It's not an ordinary game, it might look like one now, but in reality it's a virtual universe. A place that will eventually become a mirror of reality. The foundation of that universe is the realistic economy.

How is the atmosphere working for MindArk?
Marco: Very creative but you can also get frustrated that there are so many things you want to add to Project Entropia but that it takes so much time to do them all. Project Entropia will always evolve and never be finished. What we mean with going gold is that we have a pretty good foundation to stand on. The servers will be multiplied in number and located one jump away from the internet backbone. Also we hope to have server parks spread internationally.

What are the times support are working cause they seem to always be there and not tierd even in the midle of the night?
MindArk: Support is available 24/7, 365 days a year. And that's important since we strive to have a good support team that can answer e-mails as fast as possible. This is something that has rarely been done before. Few other companies have tried to provide support like us.

How are decisions regarding Project Entropia made?
Marco: There are three people who make most of the decisions: Our founder Jan Welter Timkrans, Magnus Eriksson and myself. We have production meetings where different concept ideas are discussed that both we and the users have suggested. It's hard to make choices and we do have to prioritize because some suggestions just demand too many resources.

How are changes made within the Project Entropia world?
MindArk: The system can very much be compared to a living system and that's because security is the number one priority. Not even MindArk employees can add things to make a profit for themselves. As a result it's hard to make changes as if there are too many fluctuations the economic system won't perform well.

When will we see first advertisement by real life companies and what kind of advertisement will that be?
MindArk: We can't provide any information on that yet since contracts are still being discussed. However, some major companies have been in touch with us.

How does MindArk plan to get people not part of the gaming community interested in Project Entropia?
MindArk: The first step has always been the gamers and that's where we at now. But foundations to get other communities like more women and/or scientists involved in Project Entropia exist.

How many gamemasters does MindArk plan to have in game and what will be their duties involve?
MindArk: No gamemasters exist in game and probably never will. Instead we will have an Operation Center with support that will help people in game. Some players may be able to help later on with certain things but nothing has been decided on that yet.

Is it possible for players to get higher skills through quests?
MindArk: Quests have never been too popular in any online game and most people don't use them. But we are working on a complex system for quests that will be put in later.

How much influence will societies have in creating laws?
MindArk: It will be an important part and we have some ideas on it. Like, for instance, having political layers in the world. These will be divided into hierarchies that can rule and govern. Important things like blockades and espionage between societies is probably something we will see in game. As for the political top there might be something like a Grand Council where the Federal Empire has the highest seat and where the societies will be advisors and members of that council.

How would I go about placing my real-life company into Project Entropia ?
MindArk: Just send us at MindArk a business plan and we will see. Of course, there are somethings we can not implement.

Will MindArk actively enforce in-game contracts?
MindArk: There will be a contract system that you may not break once entered. Rules will be set up and you won't be able to break them. Something like the game civilization where you sign a deal for example to every year deliver a certain amount of something. And you will have to deliver what you signed to deliver. You won't be able to cheat and in that aspect contracts will hopefully be better in Project Entropia than in real life.

Is MindArk going to encourage roleplaying and if so, how?
MindArk: Yes, but the responsibility for it to evolve will be in on the community. MindArk will provide the means for it and then it's up to the community if they wish to role-play. Also as a player you should always have in mind that if someone attacks or harasses you it's more often the avatar and not the person behind it being attacked.

How much has the game design of Project Entropia changed since earlier this year?
MindArk: The design and concept of Project Entropia is ever evolving as a result of the input we get. It's impossible to hold onto static ideas and changes are coming all the time. New stuff is added continuously and as the conditions change, old concepts get tossed away and new ones emerge.

What can expect in game after gold, what are going to be the really big changes?
MindArk: As for updates new VU's (version upgrades) will come out every month. We try to test them as much as possible but despite making 10,000 tests on various things, often it's not until we publish it that we discover some flaws. One player does something and that triggers another thing and so on. And suddenly things we didn't plan for occur. As a note the Christmas VU could have been better but it was something we wanted out before Christmas. For the next VU we might see the following: The rest of the skills will be added and there are a few hundred of them. People won't be able to use all of the skills. For example the create house skill might exist but no houses can be built. But we feel it's better to have the skills out now together with the new User interface for Skills. This interface will be totally different from the old one for skills and will look more like an avatar information screen, inspired from role-playing games.

The functionality will be improved upon a lot too and things like different words on the same button will be fixed to help players using Project Entropia. The quit button for example will have only one name instead of 5 like abort, escape, cancel, etc. MindForce will grow slowly into the game as well. As for Gold it will mostly be getting better performance and more PR. Also we will nearly double the amount of in game items.
More focus will be put on crafting and the cooperation between crafters and traders

The security around Project Entropia seems so far to have been good, but will you be able to guarantee in game companies that they will be safe from malicious players?
MindArk: We are taking ever precaution and security is as high as possible. Everything is done server side so hacking the client won't do any good. Security is always our number one priority and is always something we think of first and try to stand in the front line of.

MindArk has been unusually distant from the media over the past year. Will you be able to increase the contact with media now after gold?
MindArk: On the contrary we haven't decreased our contact with media. It has been more focused outside the gaming community. For example we have been in TV broadcasts like CNN and G4 (Internet/gaming channel). Swedish TV4 recently had a news story on us, but it hasn't been broadcasted yet. And newspapers like New York Daily News have had Project Entropia articles as well.

We think that it's better making slow progress and finding contacts than hyping Project Entropia to what it isn't yet. Nobody would be happy if we by tomorrow have 100,000 players on the server.

Will there be "mini-games" inside Project Entropia?
MindArk: Places like arcade halls will exist and have some games.

Will there be disease in game?
MindArk: We will see, but not in this stage. People don't want to start out with getting their avatars sick.

What kind of methods will players have to enforce laws within player run cities/societies?
Players will be able to together create these cities and improve them with things. All new cities will probably be PvP areas so players will need to act together and have law enforcement agencies. Sheriffs and bounty hunters and such. Otherwise it might be like the wild west.

What kind of physics will be in game? Will heat and cold have any affect for example? Will I need a sweater?
MindArk: There are design documents on this but it's not a priority. Since Project Entropia will be a way of escaping reality it will be hard to give players the feeling of being cold.

But there will be items that will give you bonuses. Like special sneakers that will boost the running speed so you can finally escape the evil Atrox.

Will other planets be colonized or will we stick to two more continents?
MindArk: Yes there will be things like spaceships roaming outside Calypso and for example harvesting minerals from asteroids. Spaceship battles are a vision we have that would be nice to see.

Are there any plans for schools to learn the basics of Project Entropia ?
MindArk: There will a better way of welcoming newbies in the future but no training courses or starting packs. The interface will be better for new users and there will probably be pop-ups with help on the buttons in the February patch.

What kind of purpose will food serve in-game?
MindArk: Food will be in sooner or later and eating will give you some kind of a boost. For example your health max drops without food (no starvation to death). Food will essentially be eaten to keep your levels of HP, Mindforce, stamina, etc up.

Will it ever be possible to capture/occupy cities/buildings?
MindArk: Not impossible, time will tell.

Will driving vehicles be influenced by skills?
MindArk: Maybe.

Will it be possible to completely destroy a vehicle by bumping into scenery?
MindArk: Vehicles will, like any item, have a condition value. When the vehicle takes damage it will drop and when it reaches zero it can't be used. But like any item you'll be able to store it untill you can repair it.

How much customization will crafting eventually have? How much can a player decide in design?
MindArk: It won't be like Star Wars Galaxies where you can put any items together and then create something new. Instead there will always be BPs you use. But some BP will be of a better type than the same BP of the normal type on that item and with them you can create more advanced versions of that item.

As for player created material it will be hard since there are many copyright laws out there. So no superman outfit to come.

In the future, will players be able to construct teleporters?
MindArk: Maybe, but then not too many. There has to be a good balance in game between too few and too many teleporters. Having them too close to each other will not be much fun. Later on you will hopefully be able to buy a personal teleporter that you carry with you.

In the future, will players be able to purchase large pieces of land?
MindArk: Yes!

Will avatars change in appearance, for example when they get wounded?
MindArk: Not when they get wounded, however things like skills will affect your appearance. As for example if you get high skill in weapons you will get new ways of standing, like a person used to carry weapons. And also when you aim the appearance will look more dangerous.

Will all skills show up from the beginning, or is it possible that in the future a skill will only show up if you meet certain pre-requisites?
MindArk: We will see about that but you will probably not have access to all skills. And with some updates coming there will be a ranking system in for skills so you can compare your skills and for example know if 100 laser weaponry is good. The gaining of skill will also slow down when Project Entropia hits gold. Now it's on a boost to compensate for the testers and give them some reward for playing.

If creating paintings or sculptures is possible in game, will MindArk buy them (selling them to TT's) and if they do how will their price be determined?
MindArk: We haven't thought about that yet but as always TT price will be the minimum price of an item. If you create a statue you will probably get more PEDs by selling it to an house owner. With the auctioning system the trades will also improve in Project Entropia.

How many mind force powers will be present in Project Entropia?
MindArk: MF will be expanded all the time with more specializations. And to get good MF skills, as for any other skill in game, you will have to specialize in something and then stick to it to get high skills. It's much like in the real world where people often specialize in certain areas.

When will Calypso have a night cycle and how will it work, since the game world is always daytime, even though your following real-life timescale in-game?
MindArk: Day, night, weather, sandstorms and such will all be implemented. Project Entropia will stick to the 24-hour cycles we use on Earth but the days and night will be divided into smaller pieces in a way that you won't have night every time you login at 9 pm. With the 24-hour in-game time it will be possible to experience nights two times or more during a given day. But the advantages are that you won't have to care of any Project Entropia time zone converter. If you tell someone to meet you in 48 hours then it is 48 hours in game and real life and nothing else. Also Project Entropia will have animals that appear only at night.

When will PE users have expanded communication features, like Tell's, Group chat, Society Chat, Auction channel, In-game Newbie channel, Shout command, etc...?
MindArk: It will be there, but not in the way that people are used too. It won't be as much a chat in the corner but instead more of a buddy system where you can get in touch with each other. And also there will be no auctioning channel but instead an auction system.

Will you be able to create any bonds in Project Entropia with other players? You mentioned marriage might be possible.
MindArk: Bonds will be part of the contract system in-game. If someone moves in with you after getting married you sign a contract to share each others belongings.

The PESE hasn't yet been used so much that players have noticed anything, how will you increase it's popularity? And how will it look in a couple of years?
MindArk: As it is now it's just a starter to test the basic levels of the technique but we were still positively surprised in the interest that the PESE has gotten and the use of it. Things in the future will be societies getting on the stock exchange together with some other companies.

When will we see more of EBN and will we get to meet any more Calypso inhabitants like Sayah King?
MindArk: It will come more and more when the player volumes increases. There will be more EBN and maybe someday there will be daily broadcasts from EBN.

When will we see more MindArk presence on IRC?
MindArk: The reason for this is that IRC will one day be taken away and you will be able to do all things you can do there ingame instead. This will possibly be in a few months. Also at the moment we have tolerated a little extra from the players breaking the IRC rules, but we might be harder soon.

must be an oldie, it hasnt been gold at that time even yet!

some very nice ideas in it though

Players will be able to together create these cities and improve them with things. All new cities will probably be PvP areas so players will need to act together and have law enforcement agencies. MindArk: Yes there will be things like spaceships roaming outside Calypso and for example harvesting minerals from asteroids. Spaceship battles are a vision we have that would be nice to see. When will we see more of EBN and will we get to meet any more Calypso inhabitants like Sayah King?
MindArk: It will come more and more when the player volumes increases. There will be more EBN and maybe someday there will be daily broadcasts from EBN. (ins: havent really heard much from EBN don't even know who they are, which can only mean the player volumes havent been increasing, oh dear :()

Sorry moderators for not following the 3 month rule. But considering all the latest happenings at MA I thought I'd give this a fairly good bump. There are some statements made in this thread by MA several years ago about things that they would implemented. Something like 6+ years now, have a look for yourselfs what Marco and other MA staff had to say about the supposed future of our universe if not calypso.

After seeing space & motherships being implemented, it doesnt seem unlikely that things like avatar food will be on the next release . But I''ve inserted some comments into the original post which sort of are in relation to whats happening now in EU. Thanks & enjoy.

(ins: ahh which creature is that then?)

(ins: a buddy system? or is he talking about friend lists? :D)

Will you be able to create any bonds in Project Entropia with other players? You mentioned marriage might be possible.
MindArk: Bonds will be part of the contract system in-game. If someone moves in with you after getting married you sign a contract to share each others belongings. (ins: OMG! Me & Star are getting married :yay: , now I'm free to use all his nice ass toys he keeps locked away ;))

When will we see more of EBN and will we get to meet any more Calypso inhabitants like Sayah King?
MindArk: It will come more and more when the player volumes increases. There will be more EBN and maybe someday there will be daily broadcasts from EBN. (ins: havent really heard much from EBN don't even know who they are, which can only mean the player volumes havent been increasing, oh dear :(.)

Sorry moderators for not following the 3 month rule. But considering all the latest happenings at MA I thought I'd give this a fairly good bump. There are some statements made in this thread by MA several years ago about things that they would implemented. Something like 6+ years now, have a look for yourselfs what Marco and other MA stuff had to say about the supposed future of our universe if not calypso.

After seeing space & motherships being implemented, it doesnt seem unlikely that things like avatar food will be on the next release . But I''ve inserted some comments into the original post which sort of are in relation to whats happening now in EU. Thanks & enjoy.

Nice Necro.
