A little love for melee? (number of uses left in HUD)

Hi.

We all know that all of MA's love is aimed to the ranged professions, that MA doesn't see melee combat as anything but maybe Uber/ PvP pastime, and that thus anybody choosing melee as combat profession better early on should find itself a place where it's possible to comfortably bend over, and always have a sufficient supply of Garcen Grease at hand.

Well, this is how things work. We have to live with it. And the few hard cores able to stand such would rarely whine much about. Whining is mainly for the "pew-pew ppl", or the "ra-ta-ta aficionados". Melee ppl don't whine much, they usually sharpen their weapons even more, and go out to cut to pieces whatever is giving them grief.

But sometimes this doesn't work this well, so gimme a minute of your attention, please. It might benefit you.

You see the difference? Yes, you are a smart participant, you easily recognized that there's a huge disadvantage when using melee weapons:

You don't get any feedback when the weapon will become useless.


Any other combat professions get this vital information, it's just the poor melees again that are locked out. They have to check their weapons consistently, because due to the lack of ammo usage the decay numbers of melee weapons usually are quite heavy.

What we have is something like this:

But this is only viewable when "getting info" on the relevant tool.

So my wish would be to incorporate the percentage value of the "Usable condition" of the current weapon into the display. Not only would this be a gift from heaven to any melee user, it would also be most applauded by many of our small, cute brethren & sistren from the ranged crowd. Check this:

Wouldn't such be a benefit to any & all of our EU participants? Wouldn't such be ways better for all of us? Wouldn't you love it, even if you'd be in the sad situation to be a ranged hunter, unable to shine like we glorious melee hunters are accustomed to?

Wouldn't you sign this as a kind of petition, to get such a cool, useful feature adding to your gaming experience, too?

No? Then feel free to rot in hell, plagued by a multitude of parasites and getting eaten by bazillions of different kinds of brainless atrocities, in a most painful way. Not that I would wish anything this bad to you if you'd not sign this, beware!
But there's something called karma, and it might strike heavily on you - phear it!

Should you be a member of MA - be careful! Posting such a proposition out of the blue might be hurting your career - better calculate first how much more deposits such would create, go public not before you have serious data!

I can honestly say that such a change would be another brick in the wall of trust towards MA. A lot of this wall has crumbled to dust in the past times, and building it up again should be a major goal of MA. It's not that I'm such an out-of-space, exotic participant, there's quite a lot of loonies like me that are able to deposit relatively large sums - but you'd need to get us. Or to get us AGAIN.

As a all-around-hunter i would love this feature :) Really a bitch hunting with melee and always have to keep cheking item info to see how much u have left on the blade/fist/club.

Melee needs love too :grouphug:
 
yep, wonderig that few times myself. At least number of uses left would be great. We already suffer from using part of meele MU as ammo :/

I think we shall starte sendind supp cases about that.

i really would appreciate that, not only at weapons but all usable stuff as FAPs, refiners and so on.
Dont need an extra HUD, but a notice appearing when you flip the mouse over it as you have shown would be nice!

Simply adding the amount of uses remaining on a melee weapon would be an excellent addition to any melee fighter's UI. Based on a weapon's decay rate and its total TT value (minus the useless 3% I think) you can easily figure out a total number of uses a melee weapon would have, why not display that information somewhere to make it easier for someone choosing this profession.

I started out this game wanting to be a melee fighter, using the TT knife. I have just now maxed the TT knife skill wise but I will not be going any further in a melee profession simply because later on it looks like ranged weapons, with all of their amps and attachments, simply outshine comparable melee weapons easily. Add to that the benefit of the range you have, and there really is no point in going with melee combat. Enhancers are the only things to really help out melee weapons, and ranged weapons can use those too.

I would like to see some kind of melee weapon attachment, maybe it increases your attack rate, or with one-handed weapons you can wield a 2nd weapon in your off-hand that does 1/2 the normal damage. I know I would love to be able to dual-wield knives, makes you look like a blood-crazed lunatic.
 
I really like this idea. Even knowing that melee isn't the best or easiest to start in (especially powerfist) I went for it anyways as my primary. Now that I'm using the Smacker I it would be very nice to have a stat like that easily visible!

I was caught in Twin Peaks between a spawn of Argo's, and by the time I killed one, another would spawn within radar range and come running after me, keeping 2-3 at a time around hahaha. Needless to say that 25PED weapon drained fairly fast. I should probably invest in keeping two on me at all times!

I do keep my Opalo handy for tagging, and finishing with that or a pistol.

Ooops. I have to apologize for my poor searching skills - I haven't unlocked "Entropia Forum Search Engine Comprehension" yet :((

And I have realized that my subject wasn't this search friendly, too. I have added to it "(number of uses left in HUD)". Maybe this way the next one thinking about creating a topic like this will not fall prey to the the same mistake ;-)))

Guess I'll make a support ticket pointing to this thread. Maybe we'll be lucky - after all it shouldn't be this much work to add the information needed by the participants to the HUD.

Excellent idea. This info in the hud on all equipment would have made life much easier.
 
It may seem a little off topic but also may help in this case.

Why not make the repair terminal slider into an input box you can actually type the exact amount of repair peds into?
That will ensure you know exactly how long you are able to hunt with your blade, especially on a singular mob.
I realise this would be more useful on UL SIB stuff, however I believe it would make the whole system more user-friendly instead of the dodgy, inaccurate sliding scale % system we have now.
OK someone can now post telling me there are 10 other threads about this topic elsewhere :D

You mean an input box accepting wishes like "Plz repair my UL sword so that it has uses for 200 PED (if available)!"?
Whow, great idea - this way we actually had some kind of control for our hunts without doing a nasty pocket calculator & slider aiming session in advance ;-)

I got a lot of approval, it seems I'm by far not the only one that would be most happy with such a new feature.

What is it that I suggest?

In short, any kind of information about the remaining uses of the wielded tools ("useable condition") should be displayed near the area where the remaining ammunition/ bombs/ probes is shown. It might be a percentage number, or a colored line with a tooltip, like in the "get info" window.

This would be espially useful for melee users that lack the ammo numbers, and thus have no way to get an estimate about the condition of their weapon.

This would be quite useful for other participants, too, because the state of decay for any tool or weapon is vital information that at the moment only can be seen doing a "get info", and then finding the correct tab.

My suggestion is explained fully in the above mentioned thread, with pictures to illustrate the problem. If you'd like I'd be able to compile it into a .pdf & send you this, should you have trouble visiting EntropiaForum.

I kindly ask to forward this suggestion to the approbate people, and, speaking for quite some participants that supported my idea, hope that it will be discussed complaisantly.

Whilst sympathising with your ideas - I am also trying melee, I think that there are other parts of the game which need to be worked upon first. The hunting aspect seems to be the one that MA concentrate most on which means that the other parts of the game are lagging behind. Would be a shame if EU became jsut another mob-killing game as then it would lose its uniqueness.
