If you are...sooner or later you are going to have problems. I have been using my ATI Radeon HD 4350 for several months with EU and had no problems until 3 days ago. I was running along in Amethera when my screen froze and I had to do a hard-restart of my PC. Upon reboot I got the Blue Screen of Death and a notice about my video driver causing a problem. I have not been able to use my ATI video card since. Windows has a conflict with the video driver and gives BSoD every single time!

I tried everything...Searched the internet, Microsoft.com., ATI and guess what? NO real SOLUTION. Literally 1000's of people are having this problem. This is an ATI and Windows VISTA/Windows 7 (also later versions of XP) problem...make no mistake. A bunch of links offer solutions and I tried them ALL to no avail.

So I just wanted to send out a warning. Please check your DRIVERS file for this file: ATIKMDAG.SYS - Here is the path:

C:\windows\system32\drivers

Search Google or any search engine for: ATIKMDAG.SYS BSoD, crash, fix, boot problems etc.

nVidia graphics are also having similar problems with Windows VISTA/Windows 7 as well... You will see this in the posts about the BSoD's.

While the warning may be helpful to an extent, the over-dramatiztion is just a little rediculous.

Spend that much on a new video card, only to have it burn out (or be fried in the bios/etc) and see how perfectly calm you remain ;).

Thanks Mr. Trayles! Your response, although certainly witty and painless, didn't offer anything productive. Your spelling skills did make me laugh a little and I puked a little in my mouth.

Thanks a bunch!

There are 8 computers running in my house. I have experienced every sort of problem, software or hardware.

I have never found any software or hardware so flawed that I felt a need to tell everyone that they will have a problem with it and that they should be scared of it.

The productive message I was going for is that sometimes people make a bigger issue out of something that isn't quite so big.
Glad you had a good lunch.

You may have 8 computers, but I am guessing you are a complete noob in EU.

It's important that people know about the problem. It's a big one and you want to quibble with me about semantics? Enough already.

As I said, it may be a problem. But you make it sound like the people with this card and driver are going to be crashing and burning.

After doing the recommended search, it looks like the issue has been around for a long time as most posts were in 2008. I find it hard to believe that something that is so fatal would be that wide spread and still be around.

Again, not questioning the problem, just the severity of it.

Ancient: Bad guess. But thanks for playing.

I have ATI and Vista, it works great. No BSOD or crash in 2 years. Then again, I'm not a nub at maintaining my computer.

Even before that - http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardware-devices/3707-atikmdag-sys.html - was initiated in 2006!

Do the research Nightbird. Your assumption shows a lack of information. Besides that...You don't even know me. Usually it takes hours for someone to figure out I'm a "nub" at maintaining my computer!

Same here

I bought the optimal requirements PC (MA recommended) only to find out it crashes.

First I thought it was the hardware and took it back. After a series of run tests and playing other games, no problem was discovered.

Support said it could be the Explorer, so I started running EU exclusively, no other program on RAM besides Antivirus. Crashes continued.

Then could be the drivers: Completely updated but rechecked. Problem continued...

I've been playing Blue Mars :)handjob:) and crysis, and can have whatever I want running on background for hours, no problem whatsoever.

I start EU, and just EU, and after ten minutes crash or auto reboot.

:scratch2:

What bugs me most is that I bought exactly what they posted as optimal, to run the program in perfect conditions, and then it doesn't:whiner:

In October when the frist Argo raid hit Twin Peaks ,I had the same thing happen to mycomputer. The screen turned to finger painting and locked up. Also had to hard reboot and got the same message about vidieo drivers. An I know how to maintain my computer.

Im not a believer in over clocking or stressing hardware but it seems to me that all having this problem state they are over clocking in their specs when listed...

From what I understand that is a sensative thing when running near max...

With all the changes happening in EU as of late would it not be prudent to stop doing this until they finally stabalise and keep things where you can KNOW they will be?

I don't over-clock anything on my machine. From the research I have done, this problem has nothing to do with over-clocking. I did read one post on the web where someone had this problem and they UNDER-clocked the vid-card by 10 and it solved for them. I tried this and it didn't work for me.

Thanks for your response. :)

I agree.
I'm not a specialist in video cards, but i know that some requires a 1066 Mhz motherboard for example, which meens a bigger power supply.
Did you just went to a shop and bought a product with flashing colors and changed it yourself?

No. I checked the system specs for my machine and bought my video card to match. And that was after looking for recommendations for cards that work well with EU. Also my card doesn't require extra power as some cards do. I followed the installation instructions exactly for both software and hardware.

This problem is strange b/c I ran the card for almost a year with no changes to the machine and then poof...all of a sudden it crashed and hasn't worked since.

Thanks for your response. :D

There is no real and massive problem with win7/vista combined with ati or Nvidia cards . Only for people that don't know how to set-up their PC properly

It could of been a simple component failure, nothing lasts forever.. also if your a gamer.. after a year, it's about time to upgrade your graphics;)

Yeah great another one who hasn't done the research. Your comment shows lack of information and imagination. No real and massive problem huh? Wow, that statement is amazing.
