Question: Armor Decay

Im curious as too how armor decay works exactly. Its always been kind of bugging so I've finally decided to learn. I know armor decays when being hit (obviously) but does a mob target a certain part of the body depending on its position? Ex: will a merp hit me in the legs more often than in the face? My more important question is does a piece of armor decay based on how much it covers or how much hits it takes. Ex: Lets say im hunting a mob that only does impact and my harness covers cold and burn protection, I know the armor wont cover shit from the mobs attacks but does it take decay from them?? Any answer would be helpful, have a good day and gl
