I am sorry if the poll answers were unclear (one of my pet pieves are crappy written ones ), what i meant by " not sure" is "i don't know."

thanks for voting

If it was me outbidding you in last second, I promise not a bot :)

Anyway, many auction traders do that several times, bidding as late as possible! Means last second, when counter is already at zero.

And where is the problem, you got a another 5min to place your next bid if you want the item :)

Hmm depends, was it an outbid by +1? buyout? TT bid?

I've had very fast outbids happen near end of sale time, people watching an item and instead of bidding +1 bid +2, which just happens to be the instant a +1bid is placed

Hehe it wasn't you.. i guess i wasn't specific enough in my opening post. This is what i see often.

It can be a auction that ends in 2 hours, 2 days etc I will bid and auto get outbid. Seriously is this a human sitting at the keyboard? Of course last minute bids happen but I see this auto outbid stuff a bit too often. Ma hasn't made a proxy bid system (please do this one day ma ebay seems to do well with it), so knowing the odds of someone sitting around to out bid people no where near the end of the auction is low, I keep feeling its many bots out there.

If auction is your game after some time its natural to outbid someone in less than a second. Auction hawks they bid/buy instantly. Fast eyes, fingers and excelent knowledge of prices allow them to do it. Personally dont think there are auction bots. Too risky for a trader. Maybe i am wrong though...

I don't believe in bots. If you are online and at the auction when you get overbid, it takes only a second to place a new bid.

pretty sure there's no bots since the variables are so changing as bids add more time at the end... but it might be possible someone is using a scripted mouse movement to do the bidding - pretty silly, but it makes sense, if say, the auto bot is coming from someone that cannot be online when the auction ends - due to real world job, etc. Is it cheating? Hmm... there's auto clicking in all other professions, so I'm not sure why MA would frown on it too much in trading profession... maybe they should add auto bidding to next changes in auction, similar to ebay where it only bids higher after you give it a range to work with.

I did bid a lot on auction last weeks but never seen a trace of a bot. Maybe you did see people bid fast at new items;)

I don't believe this has ever happened to me.

When i want an item and i bid and then get outbid, I will overbid and then sitt and wait to see if that person bids again...if he does i will instantly bid again and again untill they have given upp or the price is higher than I am willing to pay.

i.e. I voted no. I dont believe there are auction bots

I did some bidding on some skill chips last week and that same thing had me wondering. I would bid and before the sound that I bid was done the blue icon with my ped back was up saying I was out bid

I was not bidding +1 either so I though it strange they could read and bid back that fast.

Many people had autoclickers, and there have been hunting bots run before so I would not doubt some code monkey playing EU has come up with a program to do this.

Human :) I do this to mess with other bidders heads. If you know your gonna get one upped, open up the bid screen again and get your bid all ready one up of their one up that they are about to bid :eyecrazy:. When you see the gavel icon flash, hit confirm bid, guaranteed to drive em nuts.

Hehe funny thing that u ask...

I just finished watching an auction of a soc-mate for a BP Vehicle Suspension, and you almost always bid in the last seconds... it took you guys 2 hours to get it overwith

I don't think there are auction bots, could be just someone following the particular item at the same time - you should try bidding on it like 10 minutes later and do that several times to see if it really is a bot :silly2:

I reckon I've placed bids in the last second quite a few times before, yes. :D It can be fun actually, adds some excitement and helps winning stuff sometimes. So if it is something I really want and it's ending soon, I usually sit and wait for the countdown to go 0:00:00 to place my bid. Then it goes back to 5 minutes, and there's me hoping I won't get outbid. It's not usually like that.

its to meny ppl siting on auction. Now this days cant place a wery good bet and won, allways gona be sameone who will outbit you with good deal.
So I think there is no Bots

I suspect there are bots, but it cant be easy to code what with moving the ped card over to the place in order to bid.

yes but we both take 10 to 15 seconds to bid like humans do ;) .. i see so much of this nanosecond bidding i am pretty sure it isn't real people. I am going to make a video the next time it happens. good luck all

i don't move my ped card over to bid on things.. at least i don't think i do lol so many things i do here are off muscle memory now.

Using a bot would indeed be a big risk, that any player trading a lot would not want to take.

I haven't noticed anything like this lately. The auction is a much cleaner place than it was two years ago (double avatars galore, soc mates rising bids, etc). It's not 100% free of all this, but much better. That's my opinion.

If you see the blue hammer icon appaearing quickly, it only means two things: 1. Someone outbidded you 2. If it's that quick, he really wants the item, and is usually even willing to pay a few peds more for it (free auction trick of the day -)

GoNi: Anyway, many auction traders do that several times, bidding as late as possible! Means last second, when counter is already at zero.
Unfortunately, yes, that time trick seems to work on players who have little experience with the auction. I use it seldom, only in the case it's an item I really want (usually for my own use). I prefer a "respect your opponent" sport attitude. If you really want that no trader plays that trick to you, you'll need time to just generously play the same trick to them a few times - after missing 5-10 items because of you, they'll for sure make some efforts... Dunno if that makes you feel better ;)

are you sure it s not a Order take the item ? ^^

or simply a zombie/chinese trader

but i dont understand the utility of a bot , due to the 5 minutes after each bid

and for the : move you ped card to put a bid its an old version of entropia;)

A bot can't do it quicker than a human anyway. Look at Harvest's quote above. A bot would have to refresh the "current bids" list, doubleclick, click again etc... I'm sure you can code an auction bot, but I don't think it would have nanosecond reactions.

I can imagine someone coding a bot just for the challenge but I don't see it as any more common than that.

As Harvest said, it's probably someone showing their determination to win an item by responding quickly in the hope of putting you off.

Happened on daily basis back in the 1 ped fee days, not so much atm though... So hard to tell how it is atm.

Shows how rarely I buy stuff, or take account of auction, yes it was changed some months back, in which case I'd imagine bots would be a lot easier to code.

I think people keep thinking I am talking about last minute bidding I am not.

I am talking about a scenario where you bid days or hours before the end and you get magically quickly out bid. Of course this occurs at the end, but seriously does it occur often no where near the end?

kosmos

btw i just hope its me being paranoid i rather be wrong, but also if i am right i just want people to be aware of the possibility.

Odd... Can you reveal names of people who overbid you?

I believe naming people in an accusation of this nature is against ef rules, also I admit I don't keep track of all the names due to time. I do keep some of the sellers in mind and don't buy from them. On the other hand, next time I see this happen I am going to record proof.
