Auction lag

Today, the auction went completely down at arround 19:25 MA Time (5 minutes ago).

Every item was showing a MU like this:

Still not worried MA? Still not looking into it?

Okay.

PS: The auction is still down...

Yep, auction is out of order :(

Yup auction has been laggy for a long time now, and seems to be gone completely now

Yep and still is, been about 25 minutes now. This is beyond unacceptable.

This is extremely frustrating, especially when one needs to purchase something.

Auction lag, loot lag, trade terminal lag, lag while splitting items, lag while switching to a FAP, lag that causes me to get 'diminished' while healing even when standing still. Maybe someone at MA is downloading a lot of porn and taking up all the bandwidth :naughty:

Not to worry fellas, I'm sure they're "looking into it"

;)

Probably related to the new Social UI, sadly MA is terrible to inform us about
these kind of problems and issues, and reasons behind them... :(

A: Is this solved yet mom?

B: Not yet son, eat your vegetables.

A: But, but, but... ;(

386 servers ftw:yay:

i would imagine that "auction" is an app on a server, which should be a dedicated server.. but its being shared by, loot calculations and maybe some other stuff. they apparently got new servers in to sort all these issue out but they got worse. maybe they got screwed over by some 3rd party and ended up with less computing power than they hoped for or something.. we'll never know.. but what I do know is that u can fix this stuff by throwing cpu and ram at it. i know some people will say that its dodgy code but more power is a less i deal way of dealing with it that does always work tho.

either way, miss management, poor code.. whatever it is its just shit.

Meanwhile at MA's server house....

Until now I thought all the auction lagg was just me.
I run on advanced settings and have lowered it thinking it was due to my graphics.

By the way...Love the Potato server!

Or they might run parts of the comming new Social UI in the background, to see how
it works( or not :D)... ;)
This might inflict issues with current system. :)
If I look at what features that lag a lot or create big issus atm (for me at least), they
are all included in the new Social UI... ;)

I wonder how much network communication and processing would be lessened if the auction sorted based on the last way a player had the auction sorted or the first time someone clicks the column header for bid/buyout to sort it sorted ascending instead of descending?

I'd bet 30% of auction related server and bandwidth use would be eliminated

Yes I don't understand why still every time I open auction all kind of stuff gets loaded while I may just be wanting to view a particular section; and each time on my way to that section all kind of stuff will load again that I do not want to see, but it happens as some subsection has to be reached 1st lol. It's ridiculous.

A cache is a temporary storage area. The client can get resources from the cache rather than the original server, saving time, bandwidth and computing power. The cache is updated periodically to match the real data.

Solution adapted to EU's auction house:

- Step 1: Create a cache.
- Step 2: Create a program that updates that cache, let's say twice every second (500ms delay).
- Step 3: Make the auction house use cache requests rather than server requests.

From 100s of requests per second to your data server we have gone down to 2 requests/second.

There you go, now don't say we only whine and never offer solutions.

It might also help that the blasted thing doesn't update for each subcategory. If I need a blp rifle; I select items...weapons...ranged weapons...rifles...blp

that's like 5 queries, while it could be done with only one. okay; if you type "blup" in search the thing goes faster since it will return an empty query all the time, but that is 1) just crazy 2) bad programming
3) blup'); drop table 'items'; --

And thing is; MA loves new items and more and more items (they said that themselves). But now it hits them in they eye when their MSSQL goes slower and slower.
Makes me think, they should just add indexes or so, restart the db server and look if some proccess hogs the resources.

Virtual tycoon auction is unusable also. App constantly connects to server when scrolling and then you have to close the app and reopen. Started after vu14.

"The last thing I could imagine a few years ago is that in 2014 we would have to beg for a working auction house."
- Me, today.

Is hopeless - now and then you get the "AH under maintenance" message, but is probably more stuff added rather than a try to optimize things.

Is like MA wants us to TT the damn loot.

I don't know, not want to give them bad ideas (I doubt they stay on forum reading anyway) but they might try to disable AH refresh for an hour, see if is AH zombies straining the system.

And knowing how many PED people pay in fees it is a
not only doable but a wise business decision
to let us use the auction for trading with other players.

Breaking News !!

Yes, auction house is still broken !!!
