Question: Basic upkeep of a LA

I don't think I'll ever have enough to invest in a LA... but I was just curious since I've seen it - once you get your hands on one and don't bother stocking it with any mobs, is it essentially free upkeep? The land is automatically populated with ores and you can tax it?

That is correct. If you do not intend to put or keep mobs on it, there is no additional cost to running it.
