On Saturday, May 23rd, Club Neverdie hosted a Fashion Show Contest that found many opening up their virtual wardrobes in search of their most fabulous outfits. Others either contacted the professionals in the community to help design an outfit, or they had skills of their own they could put to good use.

It must be said that my initial trip to CND was in support of a friend who had entered the contest, and not solely for the purpose of covering the event to write an article. I was there to enjoy the festivities of the evening, and to see how far we had advanced with our fashions.

However, I did manage to capture a few photos, and particularly the 1st place winners of the male and female category, along with other photos, but must apologize that I don’t have photos of the 2nd and 3rd place winners in these categories. At the end of the show, it was quite chaotic, and people started dispersing, either to hunt, mine, or head back to planet Calypso. It was after the event that many who had seen me there, asked if I was writing an article, so it was then that I decided to use what I had to try to put something proper together in celebration of the fashion show event. I am hoping that some who attended will have their own photos to share.

THE CONTEST

There were 30 contestants who had entered the contest for three rounds of judging by a panel consisting of Max HardWrath Mayhem, Mike Freyr Perry, LeeLoo Faith, and Kissy Lexi Shepherd. The male contestants were escorted onto the runway by Hypnotica Trance Blain, and the females were escorted onto the runway by Lazarius Laz Mesetar. The three rounds showcased party outfits, armor, and beach wear.

The contestants walked the runway and stopped in front of the 4-panel judging table, where they were asked a question about their outfits, like what skin, or textures it was made out of. The judges in turn viewed the outfits closely, and then each judge gave the contestant a number value to be added to the rest of their score. At the end of the contest, the numbers from all judges were tallied, and the winners were announced.

2nd and 3rd PLACE WINNERS

Male Category
Ranger Sheryo Fenriz – 2nd Place
Fredrik Fred Leo – 3rd Place

Female Category
Serysie Rysie Destiny – 2nd Place
Alyss Aly Aquire – 3rd Place

Second place winners received one makeup mask by Trance and Sunjewel, and third place winners received one free makeover from Sorg’s Beauty Salon.

The first place winners won a complete outfit from Etopia and Freyr as shown below:

Quite the fashion statement from two of our more prominent fashion designers. But then, any number of contestants, or those viewing and supporting the event, could have been considered part of an over all virtual fashion plate. It was another one of those moments when you realize just how much talent we have in our community.

Another moment occurred when I caught Dragons Shadow lined up in their society uniforms. They too made quite the fashion statement.

The first place winners also posed in their beach wear:

CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE

Pink Pussycat Panther, along with Kiri Kiri Hime organized the event, while many others had a hand in helping to make the event a success, such as:

Kissy Lexi Shepherd - (Judge)
Max Hardwrath Mayhem - (Judge)
Mike Freyr Perry - (Judge, Sponsor)
LeeLoo Faith - (Judge)
Lazerias Laz Mesetar - (Stage Guide)
Hypnotica Trance Blain - (Stage Guide, Sponsor)
Etopia - (Sponsor)
Sunjewel - (Sponsor)
Sorg - (Sponsor)
NBK Societies - (Sponsored prizes for the supporters)

The fashion show took place at the north end of the big dome area with contestants and those assisting out of sight until it was time to take their walk down the runway to the judges table to show off their unique costume designs. Many of the contestants were nervous, but once they took the runway and heard the cheers of the crowd, they seemed to find their comfort level, and gave us the full fashion effect to the delight of all in attendance.

The fashion show was an overall successful event, and congratulations are in order to all the winners, along with much respect and appreciation to those who gave it their best. Many thanks are also in order for those who helped behind the scenes with getting contestants ready for the contest. Here’s to next time … now go get those spiffy oufits ready, because you don’t want to be scrambling at the last minute.

Great event idea, i agree to always find ways of having fun and help others make money and get somewhere, rather then the boring hunt, mine, craft, lose ped scenarios that entropia has been more then full of lately....but i have a discrepency that i find was unfair and was very byassed for the winners and the losers.
The winners for these best dressed events always seem to be the same people over, and over again. I feel that having judges that are too close to participants makes this a very unfair and more than unbalanced event. while yes, these events are originally intended for all good feelings, and fun times, I feel as an individual that people play favorites. It's human nature to like and dislike people over people, ESPECIALLY when some of the judges are very close with some of the participants in these events that are being hosted.
I think that if events like this are held, different judges should be put in that arent as close of friends with the competition to everyone else. In this game we are looked upon by our given name, soc, and rep by others; and not everybody is as sociable and well known by the judges in the game, and i find are being overlooked for uniqueness and differences, and are only being looked at as general populous to be grouped together by others with. Most of the people that participate in these events are always hanging around each other, and have been for the most part, close knight friends in game for a few years.
While I agree, these events hosted are meant for the participants to get out there more and have chances to be more sociable, have more fun, and make more ped in game...I find that it is being judged in all means by unfairness.
Even if this is denied, most people out there should be able to see through the smoke and mirrors, like in real life people do with everyday politics, that even if words are said as no...there are signs and feelings that are being put out there as clear as day to show that what is being said is NOT their true intent as they previously handled situations that have been placed in their laps.
While this post is picking apart key details that may have been overlooked, I feel that these events are wonderful to have around, but I feel should be more balanced for other players, as we always see the same names wearing these titles for winners and losers

Gratz for creating a contest like that!

Article is as always great.

Any chance for more pictures? The rest of us up there did a lot to look cool and it would be nice to have some pictures posted here ;) I know there are some in the first thread about the contest, but some people are not visible at them....

I have often wondered why not employ the services of 3-4 n00b's who can judge without favourtism/prejudice. Until then such events will always cast a shadow about the winners...

Thing is ... I can fully appreciate the thoughts behind comments like this, and while it might seem that the same people win the fashion contests, it's far from the truth. All one need do is look back at the contest threads to determine this for themselves.

I'm playing Devil's Advocate ... and trying to bring an objective view into this. Specifically, I don't think that having n00bs judge a show like this would be advantageous in any way ... merely because they wouldn't have the experience with fashion ... other than through subjective personal likes and dislikes. Looking at a piece of art is the same thing ... it either moves you in one way or another, or is doesn't.

The point being ... that when fashion is judged at contests such as this, a great deal more is taken into consideration ... especially since we now have a more advanced fashion industry ... like color, skin (if used), texture, enhancements, whatever the case may be, and for a n00b, they wouldn't necessarily understand this language or process.

Also ... as with any other profession, the fashion industry has its highly skilled individuals who provide services to those who want to pimp out their look for these contests, and if someone has the means to engage in this process, then they're going to do everything possible to secure a win. This also means, that it makes it a bigger challenge for the judges in making their final determination.

Quality is quality ... and when I look at who the first place winners are ... the outfits were incredibly unique, and I can understand why they won. David is a first-time winner, and while Zunami won Miss Entropia 2009, it doesn't mean that she wins all these contests. What it means is ... she goes the distance to enhance her look to give her a better opportunity AT winning. The 2nd and 3rd place winners are also not previous winners if my memory serves me correctly, so I'm not sure where that comment is coming from, other than Zunami winning.

The question is ... do you by-pass someone decked out to the 9's just to give the award out to someone who hasn't won a fashion contest yet, even though their outfit may not quite compare with the quality of a potential winner? How fair would that be then. It would say that the judges in this case wouldn't be doing their job either.

One thing though ... I DO agree with the point that any fashion designers should not be part of the judging panel ... especially if they had any part in helping to design outfits for contestants. There's the potential for having a bit of bias in the judging ... not to say there was, or ever has been ... just that the potential is there. Judges should be neutral and objective ... plain and simple ... and have a criteria established that awards points for each round of the competition ... just as this contest did ... but I can see the perception of conflict with the judges based on who they were.

Oh, and ... thank you all for the nice comments, it's appreciated. :)

Hehe yes they actually did win some small prizes :) But it was for the great support they showed their soc mate, not the uniforms themselves, although it was pretty neat to see

Only 2 of our Judges were fashion designers, Freyr and LeeLoo. Lexi (to my knowledge isn't a designer, this is the first time I met her ^^) And Max HardWrath are not designers.

Our goal was to find people who were well versed in the different aspects of the clothing industry. LeeLoo and Freyr for their knowledge of the effort it takes to tailor, design, and coloring. Lexi for her sense of fashion (She was a previous contestant in the Miss EU contest) and Max for his immense knowledge of materials that are used, rarities, values etc.

Combined I feel we had a very nice panel of judges, each with varying tastes and styles. I can honestly say that nothing seemed biased from what I was reading, although I did get side tracked trying to organize the contestants in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

All in all I feel the event was a great success. It came off to a slow start but once we found our groove and a system that worked it started popping off great. You better believe that Mister + Miss CND 2010 will be like nothing you've ever seen before!

Thanks again everyone! And think you MS9 for coming out to show your support and for writing this great article for us!

Figured that I would post the screenies I took before the event started here as well. Sorry I didn't get anything during the event, it was a bit hectic.

Yeah , very nice that some people spend time and money to organize things for Everyone to have fun.
So i want to thanks too all people evolved in that event.

but i have a discrepency that i find was unfair and was very byassed for the winners and the losers.

and lots of other things...

I did personally rise the question to one of the judge over 1 week ago.I told him that i think its unfair , and biased that he judge while one of his very close "friends" is participant, specially since i guess he also help to "create" the outfit.
That judge told me i was probably right , that he will discuss this with his friend who participate and probably will not be judge or something.
This did sound fair to me , and i thought he will withdraw himself from judge...
It was just before the event take place that i learned he was still in judge. It was to late to bother organiser with this , they was very buzy with the whole things , didnt want to make them run after judge at last second.

Now , i dont say things was biased , or was not.
But i say some people should withdraw themself to be judge or participant when they are to close to eatch other.

In the end of the day , this is a lesson for me.Next time , as sponsor , i should voice myself to organisator as soon as i see something that looks to me not so fair , and dont trust the word of judge.Maybe i did missunderstood what that person told me , but anyway , i am same faulty for not said anythings before hand, and i apologise for it.

Anyway , it seems participant had great fun up there, and thats the whole point of an event.

Firstly, thank you all for a great event and another great article MS9 :)

Was great fun and fantastic to see so many original designs out there :)

Secondly; Personally I do not know either Zunami or David well, but in my opinion they were definately the stand outs in the competition and most deserving winners.

The other places I can't really comment on as there were just so many gorgeous outfits there, it must have been a nightmare to judge! I can, however, speak for myself as a place winner (which was a very nice surprise btw :yay:) I don't know any of the judges well (in fact had only really spoken with one of them prior to the comp.) so really don't think any comments on 'bias' are warranted. Just my 2 pecs ;)

Again thank you to Pink, all the sponsors, organisers, judges, participants and supporters for a great event. Had a blast :)

I had a lot fun to see all the great outfits. i like to see a lot ppl in game, not only run for hunt and mining or craft. This is a big part of the virtual life:D

Hummz should I reply 0.o

1st thing is from what I seen/know what went on in the judges chat there were no biased votes made not sofar I could see/notice.
we were purely judging on looks,. wich is what it was all about I think,.
everyone had/has own idea's about what a person should bring to get the highest score, be it a perfect matching set or using opposite colors, special (hard to find) clothes, high level colors/textures,. or just a great looking set with simple colors/textures,.

four judges handing out scores from 1 to 3, where from me you only get a 3 if you really came there with a great outfit, sry i'm picky like that, I gave it three times if I remember correctly, and to three different people.
so as for same ppl coming up top,. to be honest I dont see the same people same as other events all over the scoreboard,. The people same people were Mr EU (Leo) and Miss EU (Zunami)
the contest is open for everyone so also for them to join again, since they proved once before they can make a nice looking outfit, you can count on it that for sure they will come with something goodlooking again.
and with judges beeing tied to giving a 1,2 or a 3,. were a 2 would go to someone that put in some effort into their clothes to make a nice set,
the 3's drop fast when an outfit has just that little bit extra,. try to repeat that 3 times and your in the top3,.

2nd (waves at Etopia) think we all know who your hinting at here,. so no need to beat around the bush :) in short :
true we talked about judging/not judging
yes I am a very close "friend"
no I didnt help "create" the outfit
I remember our conversation quite well about wether I should or shouldnt judge, afterwards I thought for some time about it and when I made up my mind that I was still judging (cause I think I can be impartial, If anyone on Jury or Pink didnt I wouldnt have been there anymore I guess)
I love the fashion in this game and so does she, i'm not going to fold at every fashion event and step down so she can have her fun,.
I didnt help creating her outfits (read design) yes I did aply a few textures, but if that counts as help then leeloo got a big problem ;)

Overall I think it all went fair, there was a good judges panel and yes there is room for some improvement in the point distribution *winks to Pink* but everything is a learning experience,.
Think most people had a fun time, we (judges) had.
I'll Sponsor again,. I'll even judge again (if you'll have me)

Thanks Pink for organizing the whole event

Yes, the event organizers gave Dragons Shadow members present some nice tokens of appreciation for turning out in support of our soc mate, Gwen. On behalf of Dragons Shadow, thanks!

I believe that we were the largest society presence for the event. If not, our uniforms made our presence more apparent at the event, same as it does any place Dragons walk. :)

Thanks to the organizers, congrats to the winners, and a special thanks and "well done!" to our Captain Gwen for her grand fashion statement in the colors of Dragons Shadow!
