News: Entropia Universe Unreal Engine 5 Migration FAQ

Mind control doesn't work if the antagonist is a nice guy.

Soon Windows 11 will be required so machines bought now may be obsolete in a few months as many old spec hardware may not be powerful enough?... Time will tell.

"DirectX 11 or DirectX 12"

You're right, come to think of it, it could just be a typo, and they say
Windows 11 or Windows 12.

Soon Windows 11 will be required so machines bought now may be obsolete in a few months as many old spec hardware may not be powerful enough?... Time will tell.
According to MS requirments for W11 are:
rocessor1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
Memory4 GB RAM
Storage64 GB or larger storage device
System firmwareUEFI, Secure Boot capable
TPMTrusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
Graphics cardDirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x

About requiring hardware upgrades: It is very simple. Money can only be spent once. Any amount you'd be forced to sink into machinery is no longer available to the developer. They know this and hence will be motivated to avoid it as far as possible. Besides, it was hinted already in this thread, about every published comparison notes that UE tends to be lighter on resources than CE, but too many can't be arsed to read. There may be other reasons to fear such a change, hardware isn't the biggest worry. I've played on crappy boxes for the longest time and actually was often astonished how much still works. On the other end of the spectrum, since when has Entropia ever been a thing for characters who would bail at the slightest imperfection... you wouldn't be here.

On making money or Entropia as only source of income: The game is a system of redistribution, none of your money comes out of the company's pockets or is minted out of thin air. You know that. This means you also know that you depend on those who spend into it, for whatever reasons of their own. Therefore there is absolutely no grounds for arrogance, to berate and belittle them for being too stupid to pick up the peds lying on the ground. (Some of the high achievers are always respectful, but not all. As you shout into the woods, so it echoes back.)

Nice, thought this was a rumour, but looks all set to go. Looking forward to the swap, just hope a lot of functions don't get dropped on the transfer, then have to wait 5 years for them to return.

I find that comment a bit unusual for the San I am used to reading. As also mentioned in this thread, there's an example out there we have occassionally been able to test when the servers are up, but personally, I can't. But I can run EU still, and I would think the EU platform content is far bigger than the other offering so far. For now I think it is pretty safe to assume I will need better hardware when the time comes. People have written various lines of thought about this too.

I'm not sure if maybe the wording was muddy, and possibly I referred to something mentioned in the other thread (I get mixed up when more than one thread talks about the same thing). I meant, if the game was ported to UE without any changes to its content, from what we know that can be distilled from a number of publications, it is -likely- to be lighter on the hardware. This is no guarantee it will be so but speaks against premature fearmongering. They could of course go hogwild and double up on content detail because it would make the new version really shine, which is great if you can run it. But the potential loss of income is a balancing factor. It may tip over if management becomes convinced that the eyecandy pulls in more new customers than were left in the dust. Nothing is 100% sure either way at this point, I find it simply too early to panic. Their arcane dealings with planet partners worry me more than the technical developments.

I would not worry about Unreal 5 too much. With the quality of dev work MA is buying in, it will take years to get anywhere and probably many more years to have it playable without gazillion bugs, exploits, glitches and stuff.

Even their current engine and optimization is bad enough, imagine them moving to new one :) I run out of memory on my 128GB PC, because of memory leaks - should I buy a server with 1TB of RAM for Unreal 5 engine?

Well this is probably the best thing to happen to EU since 2010 (before CE2).
I always thought EU would be better off on UE than on CryMeARiverEngine.
The most advanced game engine finaly coming to Entropia , so many possibilities.

I don't care if we need to upgrade or quit playing, if you don't also make massive changes to gameplay this game is dead anyways. It's just not worth playing the way it is right now unless you are comparing it to a night out at a casino. The fact is I have far cheeper options of games to play that are just more fun.

The game needs to be fun for a new or long time player at 200 ped a month like it used to be. I played for the first 5 years on less then that and it was great, now 200 ped won't get me through an evening.

What's ironic is that the company behind the game engine Mindark is switching to offers many of those games for free. Love that Epic gives out free games every week. It'll be nice to see Entropia on the Epic store some day.

However, yes, Mindark will really need to up their game to make Entropia more worth playing than the freebies on there...

I am curious about VR capabilities.

Here we go again :ROFLMAO:
jk.
Respect. I don't know other game to switch 3 engines after release :ROFLMAO:
I don't know any other game that is still running going on 20 years!!

I haven't seen anyone else suggest that the unreal engine upgrade will also really help with server load. I know Epic had 10,000 users on one server a few years ago in Fortnite so I expect a VAST improvement with EU server behaviour!

here goes another year of bad loot but oh well..

hmm you guys are obviously out of touch with reality since more than 60% of your hunters are not even there to enjoy these graphics updates, most are afk cave hunters who could careless about the graphics..

so then you have the few legit players asking themselves why is this company fixing graphics when there are so many gray areas that need to get resolved and so many exploit need to be fixed before they go upgrading graphics.

i dont wanna tell you what to do but i dont think you have your priorities in the correct order.

Most of the people are like that yes, this is a very good step for long-term progression tho.

I don't think entropia would have survived for 20+ years (with as much turnover as they have now) if they didn't upgrade to CE.

It's not just the graphics.... New players, server load, stability, documentation. In general, also much much easier to find people that work with unreal (even parttime for a project).

This however is my biggest concern... Will epic games take 5% of any deposit then Maybe I just misinterpreted this, my English is not that good haha.
This license is free to use and incurs 5% royalties when you monetize your game or other interactive off-the-shelf product and your lifetime gross revenues from that product exceed $1,000,000 USD.

It's not just the graphics.... New players, server load, stability, documentation. In general, also much much easier to find people that work with unreal (even parttime for a project).

This however is my biggest concern... Will epic games take 5% of any deposit then Maybe I just misinterpreted this, my English is not that good haha.
Take this to mean 5% of MAs profits rather than 5% of deposits.

This license is free to use and incurs 5% royalties when you monetize your game or other interactive off-the-shelf product and your lifetime gross revenues from that product exceed $1,000,000 USD.
Sure hope this isn't the reason credit cards still aren't working.

Uncertain times are a good time to take time to "wait and see". Don't upgrade your rig this weekend and don't list everything on the Auctioneer just yet.

I don't know any other game that is still running going on 20 years!!

There are plenty :) Everquest! No engine changes though, good old creature hunting that consisted of 74 pixels.

hi again a little while ago i wrote a post that was on topic with this thread sharing my research and mentioned only 1 game that was the closest i could find to entropia that does use unreal engine in an effort to compare how entropia might look and what specs might be required and it was removed cos of rule
3.7 – Advertising/Recruiting? .. i even stated clearly that this was not the intention and yet i see others at the time of writing also mentioning other games how is this not breaking the same rule??? can some1 explain plz?

ps to be clear b4 this post may also possibly be removed cos of rule 2.14 - Administrator/Moderator Criticism
id like to state that i am asking a fair and reasonable question not criticizing im simply asking what did i do wrong thats any different

i cant take the credit for finding this but thought id share anyways ;] https://www.artstation.com/artwork/zOLOKZ

here goes another year of bad loot but oh well..

hmm you guys are obviously out of touch with reality since more than 60% of your hunters are not even there to enjoy these graphics updates, most are afk cave hunters who could careless about the graphics..

so then you have the few legit players asking themselves why is this company fixing graphics when there are so many gray areas that need to get resolved and so many exploit need to be fixed before they go upgrading graphics.

i dont wanna tell you what to do but i dont think you have your priorities in the correct order.

Maybe a new engine provides new possible fixes for some of the glitches?
Maybe a new engine also provides new glitches.

However, CE vs UE... I'd go for UE. Every. Damn. Day.

I haven't seen anyone else suggest that the unreal engine upgrade will also really help with server load. I know Epic had 10,000 users on one server a few years ago in Fortnite so I expect a VAST improvement with EU server behaviour!
I highly recommend they look at https://www.improbable.io/multiplayer-networking which integrates well with Unreal Engine.

The graphics update is not the main focus of the switch, it's a byproduct of using a better engine that is designed to handle modern graphical implementations.

And why do you think the EU will use this network instead of the current one, which is more secure for the specific things in this game?

This game engine is no different from a universal remote, which in the future would create more problems than now. Simply because it is universal. It's just based on universal use, but not by specific game Entropia... in many games the game engine is not universal but specific to the needs of the game ... from video card rendering to networking.

Rather, a year after this migration, which has probably already begun its replacement, we will have 100 copies of Entropia, because there are perhaps over 100k capable programmers in the world who can easily build a copy with the free Unreal.

"I can wait!"

I lived through the great purge that cryengine2 brought to the game... towns went from overcrowded to ghost towns.... I always joked with friends that mindark would never risk updating their engines again...

Here we go again... I am hopeful history wont repeat itself.... and look forward to the vast adventures that the new engine will bring :)
