Have you ever seen that third option in the mining finder window and wondered: "What's this for?"
Never been to Arkadia and want to experience "ScI-Fi Treasure Hunting!" for the first time?
Want to be the ultimate mining gambler?
Look no further, as I will teach you all you need to know about this mechanic.
Q: Why should I Treasure Hunt?
A. You shouldn't Treasure Hunt. It's a dead-end outdated mechanic that lacks MU and has been left to die by Mindark for several years. 90% of the material pool is used for cryptid-tier blueprints that both haven't dropped nor been used by players in years. The only people that still Treasure Hunt are gamblers that want to drop more probes in search of an ATH.
Gone are the days of 500% MU Bismuth Plating as it's ONLY use throughout the game's history is as a material to make Viceroy Armor, which is a majorly powercrept avatar-bound armor set who's only redeeming grace is the cheapest non-ring UL Focused Blow bonus in the game (1% crit chance), all for the price of 7000+ PED. Aakas and Khorum plating used to let you break even, but is in such little demand that even 2 extra unamped treasure hunters will flood the supply to nanocube food levels of MU. One of the only reasons to Treasure Hunt was to get certain materials for crafting Terra Amps, but after the introduction of Space Mining, Amps are in poor demand at best.
Q: Does Treasure Hunting provide any benefits whatsoever?
A: Treasure Sense skill gives a whopping 1 avatar HP per 1600 points, so it /can/ chip out for a decent amount of PED as Ubers will buy it. All other skills exclusive to Treasure Hunting only affect the Treasure Hunter and Archaeologist professions, which are useless at this current point in the game for reasons I'll explain below:
You see, the only benefit you get out of leveling your Treasure Hunting professions is that your finder will drop probes to a deeper depth until you max said finder's SIB period. The problem with this is that since 95% of Treasure have no MU, there's little point to leveling up your Treasure professions at all. Depth Enhancers are equally useless and wasted for this reason.
So go ahead, if you want to be John Gambler, grab a Mayhem Ziplex P400 (L), slap a Level 13 Mining Amp, add some Range Enhancers if desired and have fun in the indoor mining location of your choice.
Q. What about Something Out of the Ordinary drops? Can't I get cool weapons and items from doing this?
A: Don't count on any of these saving your bankroll. While they're absolutely cool and desired by players, MU is middling at best averaging +200-400 PED and are so rare that you'll likely never see one without burning countless PEDs in the process. Your SOotO drops will mainly consist of Paintings, Treasure Maps (a dead mechanic within a dead mechanic), and vases that not a single soul wants.
Q: What about the Treasure Hunting Arkadia dailies? Are any of those worth doing?
A: Only If you're planning on stacking Insignias for the Lunar Plate Upgrade chain, which requires an unfathomable amount of PED in TT and MU materials to get up to Perfected. These UL plates specialize in Cold Damage and have block chance, so they are desired as Uber Items. This is the only saving grace of treasure hunting, as it can speed up the process of stacking up these insignias while you buy blueprints from other players.
Thank you for reading my definitive guide on Treasure Hunting! Happy Holidays from Arkadia!
