Been playing for a couple of weeks now, and thought I'd look back at what I've learnt or accomplished this far.

A more experienced player offered to become my mentor early on, and he's been very helpful indeed, especially with bailing me out from 'impossible' outposts - kudos to Razor of the Irken Invaders!

His latest rescue mission involved getting me out of Atrox Haven - a privately owned area on Amethera. Nasty mobs - I had previously been killed by a Berycled Provider (hate those chicks!) only to be revived and then immediately be killed by an Atrox before the turret could finish him off!

Been doing some hunting, and some mining - some days I'm lucky, and some days I'm not.

I soon learnt that being part of a team is more complicated than it seems - there's loot distribution, and then you have to consider what kind of weapons the others in the team are going to use...

Yesterday, I killed my first Atrax Young single-handedly (OK, OK, at third attempt because he got the better of me the first two times!) and today I managed to kill Molisk Youngs before they managed to kill me!

Hunting skills obviously improving, but slowly...

Oh - and I'm also a member of the Irken Invaders now, eagerly awaiting promotion... ;)

My hunting skills are improving! I can now kill even big chicks (Berycled Old) without dying - provided I'm in full health when I start slashing away! :D And provided they don't gang up on me!

I also managed to kill Molisk Youngs (of which very few carried any loot) and even a Molisk Adult.

Trying to improve my mining skills as well, currently looking for a Matterfinder MF-104 or 105 that I'll be able to afford (I'm trying not to invest too much money).

Thanks for the welcome Dash Smashing! :)

Wooohoooo - got my first global EVER today, together with a society member!

Here's the funny thing - when teaming up, he asked if I agreed to share hofs/globals 50/50 and I happily agreed finding the offer pretty generous, since I still have pretty crappy armour (a mix of pixie and goblin) and main weapons an opalo with an amp a103 and an axe 2x0.

We went hunting umbranoids, mainly adepts, and then got into trouble when several of them attacked at once. My team partner got killed (being in the front line with better armour) and I was left alone to finish off an umbranoid adept, and then battle an umbranoid worker!

Guess what? I managed to kill the umbranoid worker all by myself with my trusty axe *proud moment* and that's when we got a global!

Note to self: Remember to take a print screen next time you get a global or even a hof!

Oh, and if anyone is wondering why I have part of an URL at the bottom of my avatar - it's because the image is from said site.

The site belongs to a friend of mine (she made the masque in the picture) and I asked for her permission to use the image, and she gave her permission if I could somehow show where I got the image from.

Would this be OK or could it be seen as a form of advertising?

Too late

...much too late

While I was sweating a Fugabarba Old, trying to get it to attack me so that I could kill it, I suddenly noticed a red dot rapidly approaching me.

I started running, but those <bleep> Atroxes are still faster than I am - and so, while heading for the nearest turret, I was killed.

And so was the Atrox Dominant.

Pah - just a Dominant Atrox?

If anyone reading this feels like that, then you're more than welcome to join with me to act as my personal bodyguard while I'm mining.

It's actually a position I've advertised in the game more than once, and the only one to respond was my mentor - who complained about the mobs being tricky!:D

The oddest thing happened today - lots of players got a red screen and were then thrown out - including me - and when I logged in again I noticed that the server status was just 96%, the team I belonged to had vanished - and my clothes were in my inventory, not on my body!

One of the things I had previously said in the soc chat was that "You'll never see ME in just my underwear" in a discussion about how many males are behind some very seductive looking female players - but now at least my mentor (and possibly some other people) have indeed seen me in my underwear!<blush>

Oh well - at least I was still wearing my armour...

Woohoo!! Killed my first drone today (solo, that is) - generation 01, but still... :)

It started out with me getting attacked (once again) by a drone, and while he was firing at me, in frustration I swinged my axe against him.

Much to my surprise, I'm now able to make quite a lot of damage to a drone with my 2x0 axe - I barely had time to notice it before he killed me...

Being a stubborn jackass, after having been revived, I went back - and killed it!

Next drone I went for I also managed to kill, so there!

The one after that got me though... so Flame vs Drone gen.01: 2-2

Finally managed to find Buzz Lightyear and ask him if he's still crafting Matterfinders (I'm looking for a MF-104 or 105).

Turns out the materials are quite expensive, so he has to charge accordingly - and it's quite a lot of PEDs!

Have to think about this - but if I don't get more advanced equipment, I don't think I'll ever come across resources larger than V

Yippiee! Managed to craft my first clothing item - and colour it too! :painter:

I tried selling it at the auction for just a very modest supplement - but there were no takers... :(

So now I'm advertising my pale blue, basic pattern pants (M) here:

Pants for sale

If I don't get any offers, then I guess I'll just have to sell them to the Trade Terminal *sighs*

Beacon

A fellow society member has perchased a beacon in the auction and is now looking for people to share the cost (and the upcoming fight and loot) with.

I am tempted to join, but a bit dubious of whether I'll survive long enough to make it worth the investment - so far, I only have a goblin armour.

The chances are that the bots will go for whoever causes most damage (and that certainly wouldn't be me!) but can one really be sure of that?

The reason I have my doubts is something that happened when my mentor Razor (of the Irken Invaders) rescued me from a tricky outpost on Amethera:

While running, an Atrox showed up, brushed past Razor and attacked me. At the time, Razor thought I had fired bullets against it, and advised me to wait until he had fired. I told him I hadn't fired a single bullet.

After a wile, we were yet again attacked by an Atrox - this time I was keeping a bit of distance from Razor, running to the left of him. This Atrox comes running towards Razor from the right side, runs straight past him despite Razor firing at it, and attacks me (I held back my fire as I had been told).

So, obviously, there are mobs out there who go for the person with the weakest armour or least health points, not the person who does most damage to them - is that scary or what?

Addicted? Who? Me?

It won't happen again, promise - but I really, really wanted that MF-105!

What? Oh, nothing - just set the alarm to wake me at 4.50 am this morning to be the last one to bid on an auction item...

I think I got it, but was too sleepy to stay online and have it confirmed - so I'll have to wait until I get home from w*rk today.

I don't think I bid too much - the price I (probably) ended up paying was still lower than the start-out price for all other MF-105s currently in the auction.

Phew, I was right - the final bid I made of 120 PEDs was OK, not too much. I would have hated it if I had found out that I had overpaid for it... guess this means I'm not a noob any more! :)

MatterFinder MF-105

There's presently a discussion going on about helping noobs get TPs:

TP Hunting

...and it reminded me of the time when I was trying to get to Fort Argus from an outpost SSW of it. I had managed it once before, thanks to a player putting together a team.

This time, besides me, there were two other players stuck at the outpost too, one of them without any kind of weapon. I teamed up with them, and we started running. After a while we were attacked (if I remember it correctly) by an Atrox Young.

I and the other armed team member managed to do quite a lot of damage to it before getting killed. When we were revived and I had healed us both, I said 'Let's go back and kill off that Atrox, we should be able to succeed this time!'

The unarmed player shows up and tells us it's dead - and when I ask how, she explains that when left alone with the Atrox, she run for the turret.

I remember being incredibly disappointed - it would have been the first Atrox I had managed to kill (in a team, alas, but still). :(

I still get annoyed when I see new players killing off mobs by running for the nearest turret - not only do they deprive other newbies the chance to get some more sweat off the mob, they also deprive other players the chance to kill it, gaining skills and - hopefully - some loot.

Suffering from a bout of insomnia - ah well, at least I didn't wake up until 5.20 am today (now 5.40). The last five days I've woken up somewhere between 3.30-4.00 am, unable to go back to sleep!

I think it's my S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) acting up again...

Anyway - second team global hunting Armax last night! :cheer: - and no, I didn't get a screen print this time either. But I'll be sure to get one once I get my first solo global... *daydreaming*

Wohoooo!!! A ship, a ship, a ship! <bounce>

Team Global

Need I say more?

And a thank you to Cy, my team mate and fellow society member - thanks for the patience, the info, and the instructions!

Lootwindows

I've noticed that the lootwindows look a bit different depending on whether you're hunting solo or in a team - but today I saw a new one I haven't seen before!

This is the one I normally get - and the loot is quite nice although it's not a global...

lootwindow2.jpg

This is the one that was new to me:

Another Loot Window

...but this time, a very special one:

lootwindow3.jpg

Merry Christmas all!

And another...

It's almost a bit morbid isn't it?

lootwindow4.jpg

What it is? It's a teamed PK (Player Kill) in a PvP zone... :handgun:

I had a dream...

Yes, yes, I know - don't we all? Dream about PE when sleeping?

But this was after spending Christmas at my mother's (no computer, no connection). After two whole days and one night, during the second night I had this dream:

I was in a completely new place - a new continent. There were no green dots, just the occasional red one on the radar.

I had just been running away from a Neconu (brrr, ugly creatures!) and caused it to drown (the land was broken up into several islands with water inbetween) when I noticed a green dot rapidly approaching me.

Hang on now - didn't I get a print screen of a Neconu head? *rummages in PE image file* Yep, here it is:

ugly.jpg

As the green dot gets closer, I can see that it's this big and rather bulky guy wearing black armour. Now, I've been told to stay away from people in black armour when in PvP areas, so I got a bit nervous (black armour is called Ghost, right?). Why was he zooming in on me?

I stood very still in my mix of pixie and shogun armour, waiting with baited breath. This behaviour seemed to puzzle the guy so, instead of attacking me, he slowed down.

'Hi!' I said. 'Would you happen to know if this is a PvP area? Because the welcome message only mentioned taxes...'

'Yes, it is' he replied, 'but your pilot should have told you so on the way here.'

Pilot? I told him I hadn't been flown there the usual way, but that I had used a spacecraft, slightly similar to the ones you come across once in a while when mining. See this thread for a picture of a spacecraft.

It was different from a spacecraft because it was slightly bigger, and instead of a red button, there was a narrow door that opened when I approached it.

Something that I was wondering about at the time was the lack of any robots guarding the spacecraft. Last time I had come across one, there had been two Warriors gen.03 around.

Once inside the spacecraft, I had seen a teleporter that looked a lot like the one at the Zychion Zitadel (yes, I know that's not the way you spell it, but it looks cooler, doesn't it?) only smaller.

Always one to act rather than ponder, I stepped into it and - swooosh! - I found myself standing in a street corner on this new continent. At least I had foresight enough to check if I could get back the same way - but I couldn't, no matter how many times I stepped or jumped in and out of that corner.

While retelling all this to the bulky guy, I realized I'd probably have to rely on a ship to get out of there - and I also realized that I was extremely short of peds.

And then - I woke up, probably because of the sense of frustration. End of story.

I need to find out exactly what you can and cannot loot from another player in a PvP area - just in case I do end up in this kind of situation...

I know I've been a bit quiet lately...

... but it doesn't mean I haven't been playing, because I have! :D

(black armour is called Ghost, right?)

Arrrghh - I meant Shadow, honestly! Ghost, shadow - that would fit right in in a word association game, right?

After having deposited a bit more than I had planned in December, I decided not to deposit again until next year - but boy, is it slow going!

Ahem - now would be a nice time for a hof or at least a global, MA... *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

I sweat and try to skill in Longblades so that I can become a Mentor - just need to make the 'you have skilled' message for Longblades pop up another 109 times, and I'm there!

Unfortunately, slashing away with my axe sometimes makes other skills improve instead, so it takes a couple of mobs to get just one step closer.

Repairing my 2x0 axe costs a lot, so I end up selling the sweat I'd rather keep to make ME (need to mine more Force Nexus first though, once I can afford to buy probes again, that is).

Ho hum... let's see how long my patience will last...

Wohoo - a solo Global!

...but no picture because, for some reason, my print screen didn't work... :(

Anyway, short on PEDs as so often lately, I had spent my last money on a couple of probes and was on my way to a site where I had previously found enmatter.

This site is midway between two outposts, and I was happily running along a beach, only company a swarm of rippersnappers-on-land, when there it was, right in front of me! A spacecraft!

At first I thought it might be a mirage, because the weather was slightly foggy, but when I approached it, I realized it was real.

I had a good look around for other red dots besides the fish (last time there had been warrior robots around), for any green dots (none) or any sign that anyone else had recently been here (mining claim).

Nothing.

So I ran up to it, circled it, found the red button - and pushed it.

Yihaaaa! 21 PEDs and - a beacon!

Now, what to do with the beacon? Sell it - or try to talk my soc mates into another visit to a robot ship?

We went up once (the reason I deposited more than I had intended) but the score still hasn't been settled since, and I think we would have to work out the details much more carefully this time.

For now, I'll hang on to it.

My luck finally beginning to turn!

Praised be Lootius!

After having finished up my probes (and mining some minor finds) I decided to hunt around a little to skill some more in Longblades.

There were a herd of Cornundos around, and I was happily butchering away when I came across a Caudatergus Dominant (I think it was that, but I'm lousy with names). It put up quite a fight, but I barely managed to kill it without getting killed myself.

And it looted a pair of Vigilante gloves - along with money and other stuff! :D A pity they were male gloves...

I had kept a few probes to go mining in a very special place I had had in mind for some time - awesome colours, awesome view from the top. The mining proved a bit tricky though - I had trouble avoiding sliding down the mountain side. Here's a picture:

Do you recognise this?

Here we see Flame Dancer interestedly studying the controls of a gun much bigger than anything she could afford... :)

[br]Click to enlarge[/br]

Do you know where this is?

Named outpost and direction on a postcard to... no, just kidding, PM me instead with the answer.

And the winner gets... you know, I haven't figured that out yet...

How about you also add a wish? I only have minor amounts of various resources and stuff, but if it is of any use to you in your crafting, then you're welcome to it!

So:
  • Name of outpost
  • Direction (N/S/E/W)
  • One wish

Dying twice

Bah, I thought I'd have a cool print screen to post regarding dying twice, but my print screen seems to have been malfunctioning - again! I'll have to download some nifty pic-grab program...

Anyway, I was fighting this Drone gen.01 and by now I'm really doing enough damage to take one down - but due to severe lag (just on my part, not the drone's - duh!) it ended up killing me.

I got the little blue screen, got transported back to an outpost (inside a container, by a revival terminal - but I was revived lying down with the skull still hovering above me (that was the supposed print-screen)!

And then I got the little blue screen again.

Some time after, we were asked to log out because server was taken down.

It would be nice to have all that ammo (and decay) that I spent on the drone, in vain, compensated, but I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that MindArk will ever compensate such 'minor' inconveniences...

That's one big bitch!

...or "Flame moonlighting as barmaid":

[br]Click to enlarge[/br]

Broke and bored out of my mind waiting for an item of mine to either be sold in the auction or returned to me so that I could ditch it in the TT, I decided to idle away some time in a bar.

Still no beverages around, but how about a barmaid with a slightly more extensive vocabulary than the regular one?

It wasn't until I looked at myself from a distance that I realized the difference in size - what is that? A female Russian wrestler?

No longer a Disciple!

Yesterday (Friday) I finally skilled 1900 in Longblades, but it wasn't until today that it was 'officially' confirmed - and now I can become a Mentor myself!

The last few skill points were the toughest ones to get - I skilled in everything but Longblades; Evade, Melee, Anatomy, you name it. But now I've finally reached my goal...

From what I've read on this forum, I realize I need to be careful when taking a Disciple - I want a dedicated one, and I won't be giving items away for free, that's for sure.

My Mentor helped me earn my first PEDs so that I could by my first axe - I think I'll do something similar.

My first attempts to get a disciple

Today, PA was at its calmest - I don't think I've ever seen so few players around. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that it was New Year's Eve yesterday? ;)

Still, there were a few orange-clothed people hanging around, so I tried advertising for disciples.

Only two takers so far - the first one logged out when I told him I wouldn't be giving away items for free  the other one was already too skilled, having played for two months already. I'm not sure what he hoped to learn from me - I've only been playing for two months myself.

When I logged on, the first message I got was that two of my items in the auction had been sold - new year, new money!

Well, I'll make more attempts later today - got to run, breakfast to make!

Happy New Year everyone!

The 42 Temple of Revival

I had been in this location before, and wondered about what looked like, but didn't work like, revival terminals.

This time, I had a closer look - and lo and behold - I saw the number 42 on the wall!

Any Douglas Adams fans out there? Surely you understand the importance of this discovery? :wise:

[br]Click to enlarge[/br]

Oh - and I have two disciples now! :)
