FYI: For God's Sake MA/FPC/SDS or whoever's running this thing now, GET A GRIP OF YOUR MARKETING!

They're being targetted at the WRONG PEOPLE. We do NOT need to see these ads. The people who need to see these ads are people who do not already play the game.

Your argument is invalid.
You're not getting my point, perhaps I haven't explained enough. These adverts I've been seeing, have been directed at me when I've been doing geeky stuff, deliberately. EU to everyone I know is the most geeky occupation going. (For example, when trying to connect a free static dns, searching for LUA scripts etc etc.)
No offense intended, but geeks are surely a target audience, they can never have a google cookie telling them I already play, this isn't China.
Regards,
Boo.

Do those exact same searches again on a different PC on a separate internet connection whilst not logged into any google accounts and I guarantee you will not see those ads. You're only seeing them because google tracks your internet history via cookies so it can target ads.

Yes, and it makes sense to show Entropia Universe adverts to people it knows are interested in games.

You don't get it, games yes, but it doesn't show it to people interested in games in general, just to those who seem to have already specifically searched for something directly entropia related.

Take my original example, I didn't see a single one of these ads until directly visiting the Entropia website even though they were supposedly around several months beforehand. I still search for other games and play other games, so why was Entropia only advertised to me AFTER I had visited the website?

I remember you writing mostly complaint posts back when you were on the forum, and now you're back yet again. :yay:

Maybe MA isn't finished with their marketing efforts. Did you consider that? And contrary to your beliefs, people do click on banner ads, even for a game such as EU.

Again, I have to disagree. I am actually geeky (and paranoid) enough to have a rough idea what google has obtained by way of its spyware. I usually stay logged out of the google empire whilst surfing, as I explain in my first post, IMO MA has tapped into the right area; google's empire. What does your 'guarantee' actually mean please? Regards, Boo.
Edit: e.g. my IP is different from whenever I have done anything EU related and tracked by google.

Do you not know how google ads actually work? Advertisers can choose to target specific demographics and people who have searched for specific things. For example somebody who's never searched for Entropia before will not see these ads, but once they've made one search for it they will be shown these ads all over the internet.

Google's empire stretches much further than banner advertising, and currently MindArk are going the wrong way about it. MA should be playing trailer ads before youtube videos. MA should have the youtube homepage ad for a day. If you read the OP then you will see that I explained how banner ads just aren't good enough when it comes to advertising a game as complex as Entropia.

As far as I'm concerned, banner advertising is just MA doing it the laziest way possible.

EU "marketing" really sucks, so much I find it hard to find words to describe it. Just talking about FB, a good medium to promote, the emissary program doesn't even keep record of existing planets. And the facebook connection from account that should publish globals and achievements, does not work!

I browse my fair share of internet sites, and possibly gaming-related sites more than average public, but I can't recall just randomly finding a PE/EU related ad (ok some news about sales, that is good, but no ads).

Think I said this before, but we made better job in my college years, when we planned some avantgarde infotainment, or was it dadaist poetry campaign, to be published only carefully hidden behind the machinery of public toilets!

Are they shy or what?? Damn it!!!

Holy shit I was going to find the Bill Gates quote and send it when I were quoting you.

Look what a coincidence

MA need more lazy programmers - get it right first time and you won't need to spend the next 6 months rewriting or fending off support requests.

6 years more like

(no offense lol)

wait, I am sure it was in the initial "deal" for the land deeds that major part (I hope the word major is the same in the book of Calypso) of the income goes into the marketing. did I miss some statements concerning some part of it being done already? I mean, I am ready to eat my opalo if it wasn't about to be done this year. and I am like counting days of the year left...

no offence, but it would be at least polite to the shareholders (read : all the owners of land deeds) to give them a status update.

J.

P.S. I have no CLDs on my account, I simply both adore and respect the meaning of the word fair.

Mentions both a new promo video and covers the "marketing spend from CLD" issue.

I am happy that this thread, although indirectly, has been aknowledged by the developers and some answers given.

It's still a shame MA seem to have a policy of no direct discussion with participants on forums like there used to be, what happened to Marco?

EDIT FEB 2015: How funny that, 2.5 years later essentially nothing mentioned in that blog post has come about. Where is this official trailer which was supposed to be finished in November 2012?

He joined SDS which then decided to not pay all that they promised to pay - possibly using his advice to make that decision- which is why the CLD thing happened int he first place... I still think somehow Marco may have an avatar out there that owns a big chunk of clds since he probably saw it coming... lol. Would not be surprising if SDS actually owns majority share and will ultimately have the most voting rights because of that. Talk about irony.

Btw I dont mind rockstars, they bring color to EU. And NEVERDIE, tho last years lot blamed and so on, I have nothing against his publicity stunt either. It's if not totally cool, interesting enough imho. :) It was not quite fair from the community to judge him like it was done.

Take servers to some Pacific Islands, and advertise game as it really is - a casino.
Not only honest thing to do, but will bring right people to the game. :silly2:

Yeah... Entropia "marketing" at it's best.
