Guide to the Entropia Mining and Crafting Museum

The Museum is currently closed as VU 10 randomly moved the exhibits from all three museums into the resettlement boxes. I will post new details when it becomes possible to reopen it.
Second Edition January 2007

If you are thinking of taking up mining or crafting this museum is designed to help. It mainly displays things that you can find or make when you start mining and crafting, plus a few exhibits to show you what else there is beyond that starting point. Everyone is welcome to visit the museum- there is no charge.
Other places you can get information about crafting and mining are given at the end of this catalogue.

Location
The Museum is at (5800,16940) in an interesting and relatively unvisited part of Eudoria. To get there go to Hadesheim West TP. Then run northwest to the corner of the Hadesheim outer wall. From there run west, passing south of the giant mushroom and continue west over the hills onto the wooded plain beyond. The only mobs you should meet are small berys and daikiba.

The mansion containing the museum is in the West Hadesheim settlement there- look for the julbocks.

The Mining Room
Enter the main door and turn left for the Mining Room. This contains the basic tools you need for mining and drilling, and many of the enmatters and ores that you can hope to find.

To mine for ore you need a detector and bombs to drop to find the ore, then a drill to remove it. Using a refiner you can then turn the raw ore into ingots. The table in front of you as you enter the room includes examples of each of these tools.

Next to this is the ingot display. This shows the commonest ores in ingot form, arranged by TT value. The more valuable ingots held by the Museum (including gold) are on show in the green display frames at the north end of the room.

To drill for enmatters you need a detector, probes to drop to find the enmatter, then a drill to remove it. Using a refiner you can then turn the raw enmatter into the refined product. The next display shows examples of all these. Although you will not need it when you start, a finder amplifier is also shown. This is a limited life item which (at a cost) improves the performance of a finder.

The corner of the room contains an animated display, showing a miner interrupted while drilling for ironstone. He wears Shogun, a general purpose armor, and carries an axe for close quarters defence while mining.

The tables along the west wall of the room show you most of the enmatters that your surveying and drilling might find, although for many you will need to be highly skilled before you can locate them. Each is displayed in two forms; the raw enmatter that you drill for and the refined form you get after you have processed it.

There are also some products that need a combination of items. Nutrio bars are produced by combining sweetstuff (an enmatter) and fruits, such as those shown here. (These bars are the food needed to feed any animals you tame.) Mind essence needs force nexus, which you drill for, and the vibrant sweat collected from mobs. (It is used in mindforce devices, for such things as personalised teleporting.) Finally energised fertilizer combines growth molecules and a natural animal product which, at the request of the staff, is displayed outside rather than inside the museum. This fertilizer is used by landowners to grow plants to support the herds of mobs they rear for hunting.

The Museum’s ore collection can be inspected in the display cabinets to your right as you move into the Mining Room. The ores are grouped by the frequency with which you are likely to find them when you are prospecting- the ones you first see are the most frequent. About two thirds of the ores so far discovered on or near Entropia are shown in these cabinets.

The Crafting Room

Enter the main door and turn right for the Crafting Room. Most of the kinds of things that you can craft when you first begin are shown here.

On the wall in front of you as you enter is a display of Settler armor; this is the first crafted armour that you can make. Like most of the basic crafted items this is not recommended as a good item to buy or use. It is just used for skilling- i.e. to practice crafting on, rather than as a valuable thing in itself.

To the left of that is a display on making clothes. To do this you combine various refined animal products such as leather (made from hides) and textiles made from wool. Mobs drop different materials and the various clothes need a different mix of these. This display shows the TT tool you use to turn natural hides etc. into usable materials. The materials needed to produce the basic pants shown are also on display. You can also make specialised animal skin clothes by adding, say, fungabarba skin to the materials you use. When producing clothes you sometimes get tailoring residue (also shown here) as a result. This can be sold at the TT or in auction and can be quite an important source of peds.

You can colour clothes and some kinds of furniture; the next display shows examples of both. As the display of shoes illustrates, most items are divided into parts that can be coloured separately. The shoes also show how the precise colour you get cannot be predicted- both pairs of coloured shoes displayed used the same orange as the colour. Colouring requires a colorator, available from the TT. If a colour is not suitable, or the item does not colour at all you can bleach it and try again. The bleacher shown fits onto the colorator as an attachment.

There are many paints available, but the range you can use increases as you get more skilful. The five commonest are displayed, in TT cost/skill needed order, on the Jamora shelf at the far end of the room.

A number of the basic electronic equipment items are on the table to the left of the paint display. The wires shown can be used in other things but again most of these items are for skilling only. When you produce any of these items you can get metal or enmatter residues left over from failed attempts. These residues can be sold and sometimes makes up a big part of the value of what you produce. These two kinds of residue are shown here.

The next table shows some of the basic mechanical and metal equipment you can produce. Making basic filters is usually recommended as the best way to start crafting. Standard dampers cost more but give skills faster so some prefer those. At the back of this display a single garnet is unobtrusively displayed. This is by far the most expensive exhibit in the museum and is one of several rare precious stones that you can obtain. According to PE-Wiki (see below) precious stones may be found when crafting or may be looted from mobs. (Why they cannot be dug up from the ground by miners remains one of Calypso’s scientific mysteries.) They have very high TT values but at present have no other use.

Finally the table to the left of the door shows most of the basic starter set of weapons, tools and attachments you can first craft. The display also includes some more advanced tools and attachments, such as a scope for pistol or rifle and a limited-life amplifier for an enmatter detector. Limited life items (marked L in the auction descriptions) can only be used a certain number of times and cannot be repaired.

The West Hadesheim Settlement and the surrounding area

In the early days of colonisation this area was seldom visited, except by couriers du bois who hunted berys and daikiba in the wooded hills to the west and north, and a few miners prospecting for lyst to the south and east. The Council Tree that still stands in the middle of the settlement was the meeting point where both groups came together every autumn to trade, celebrate and settle disputes. It is also possible to identify the flooded remains of the first mine workings, to the west of Council Tree. To the south of these are what is left of the trees flattened and burnt in a massive mine explosion that occurred during some of the most turbulent events in Eudoria’s history.

At that time a wooden stockade existed round the settlement, built to link up the various hillocks and small rises that you can still see as a ring around the central area. The houses now forming the settlement were built later. None of the original stockade remains, but the site of the East Gatehouse is thought to be very close to the Museum.

It is still possible to hunt berys and daikibas around the museum and there are mining areas within very easy reach of the settlement though these are now only intermittently productive.

Unless you are well equipped and armed it is not recommended that you go very far beyond the acid pools and the grey ash area to the west of the settlement, as dangerous mobs are often present, and dying there takes you to one of the most infamous outposts in Eudoria, far to the west.

After your visit you can easily return from near the Museum. Just press T to teleport to the west side of Hadesheim from where it is a short run to one of two TPs.

Getting more information on mining and crafting

The best single source of information and online advice is the Entropia Forum, which includes sections on mining and crafting. The forum is at:

+rep, nice write up :D

Very nice idea!

+reps and good luck.

Got all the robotparts yet?

really nice script.

just visited it, nice!!

Thanks to everyone for these very encouraging responses :)

Solaris, you asked if all the robot parts are on show. Not so far- and this is true of most of the areas where the two museums have holdings, even though there are about 200 exhibits in each already. There is space for some limited expansion over the coming months but choices will have to be made between different possibilities.
So any views on what additional exhibits would be of most value to people starting out in hunting, crafting or mining would be welcome.

and a bump...
