EDIT: As people have started to post here anyway, this thread might aswell be used for a public discussion regarding the matter.

Have Entropia have had a considerable real world impact on your life, for better or worse?
Do you primarily use Entropia as a social platform or do you play to make real world money from ingame activities such as crafting, mining and hunting?
How does your experience of Entropia compare to what you expected when you started playing?

Thanks.

Yes, I'm poorer

I have the same amount of money as I used to only that instead of waisting the money on totally worthless things like the pub, cars, useless gadgets I tend to use them in EU.

I was never into saving, didnt do it before I started EU, dont do it now.. I believe that money is ment to be spent and if I have some I quickly spend them on fun stuff that stick with me for a long time or even life..

back to the question.

yes EU/PE has a real world impact on my life because I tend to think and discuss it with my irl friends that also play.
as with alot of my hobbies, EU takes time.. and the things that takes alot of time often has a bigger impact on life I think.

nothing bad has come out playing PE/EU, it has grown with me and I have grown with it. I have made friends and I have lost friends. just like it would/has irl.

I like my life as it is and as long as I do I guess everything is fine.

Please do not post in this thread. This thread is not intended to start a public discussion in these forums, but simply to probe for interest.

Sorry Perky. But I have almost one-liner:

My IRL alco consumption is near zero, since I don't have time cuz of EU. Thus, health+useless alco-money stacking IRL now. Impact?

yes... and no...

Yes, EU 'saved me' from spending at a Casino that was about 5 blocks from my house when I first started playing it.

Yes, EU caused me to want to deposit in to it, so it was a real world impact..

Yes, EU has caused me to realize that Mindark, and companies like it cannot and will not keep their promises -- which in turn created some negativity...

No, EU won't be impacting my life as much going forward as much as it did in the past because I currently don't have the excess cash to blow on it due to real world circumstances (spouse is going back to school and we have to pay half the tuition as we go), and because I've realized EU, in its current state is nothing but a huge waste of money, time, and is perpetuating a meme/mind virus that is not really worth believing in (that it's worth spending real world dollars on pixels, and that the PED is tied to the US dollar in any way that is worth believing in since they take so long to do withdrawals vs how quickly they take deposits, and in some case take the deposits without even adding the balance to the pedcard since DIBS sucks and MA refuses to move to another service provider that can give them better results)

I used to be addicted to drugs and alcohol... EU helped me quit by taking up my time.

It also helped me buy a new car :)

:lolup: :lolup::lolup:

impact on RL? oh --
-- yeah dont have time to
-clean my app
-care for other hobbies
-watch tv
-sleep

but probably the most and best impact any game or hobby could have is that I found my someone special :shower: :shower: :shower: :shower: :shower:

well said! :wise:

This is a fun thread. Impact from the game has swung in many directions. It has cost a fair amount of funds to get my avatar to the point where it is now. I have met a diverse culture of people from all over the world and created many good friendships in both game and RL. Along the way, sadly, I have lost a couple of friends. It is time consuming, but no more than television shows or other game devices that are out there.

I would really look at it as purely entertainment. When I can not afford entertainment I cut back and try to do the social aspect more and spend less.

As far as losing money and making money, you only lose what you can afford, don't ever chase that one last craft or really need that ATH because you over deposited. Put in what you can afford to lose.

There is a lot of opportunities with the auction house. It is like a mini stock market, if you really want to make money, there is ample opportunity to do so there. CLD's still a really good return (better than any real world bank) on your return. Though with the cost creeping higher to own them the return is diminishing if you are buying them now. Advice is try to get into things in EU that you can manage a 36 month or less ROI (return on investment).

I am part of BIG Industries which is tied into entropialife.com, this has been the most interesting thing I have done so far in EU. We launched a new program called BIG Rewards (an app on entropialife.com) that rewards the players from the players for playing the game. It is tied into globals and gives back to the community. I don't depend on Mind Ark or the planet partners to make my experience better. I believe that the best experience comes from the players and we need to support each other to get the most out of the game.

anyhow take care and hope to see you all around soon.

Yes, I've met my wife due to EU (not in EU directly tho) :girl:

There have been both positive and negative impacts on my real life. Since I started playing in January of 05 I have rarely missed a day where I haven't logged on, usually several times a day. The only time I've missed playing was when my system was down or I was AFK. This frequency of activity has not been a great benefit. I have lost important relationships with my family and friends. I am currently single, but at the age of fifty, I don't expect that to change any time soon. So negative because my time and attention to the game has been too time consuming.

Not too many players get to claim this, but I was on the "Get a HOF before Kitty" team, so I was able to take out $7K U.S. that summer (over $4K profit at the time) and use the money to pay off the down payment on the house I'm living in. So a positive impact in that, with enough clicks, anyone can get an uber.

Not sure if the positive impact cancels out the negative ones. I imagine that my life would be different, if not better, if I had never started playing Entropia. One thing is for sure, I am a perfect example of how controlled conditioning works when the reinforcement is random. I have been able to play without depositing for many months now, so at least I'm not a complete gambling addict.

Not really. From the start i for sure spend more time in EU than any other game but now i don't really play that much.

Do you primarily use Entropia as a social platform or do you play to make real world money from ingame activities such as crafting, mining and hunting?
Could say that i play EU because of money and hunting profession (50/50).

How does your experience of Entropia compare to what you expected when you started playing?
Probably as everyone else did from the start i thought i will be THE ONE who will get that ATH but you know... Now i know everything i need to know to "survive" w/o depositing

I could have bought a new sports car

Partly payed this beuty, so yes some irl impact..

Yes, this game reminds me how better real life is.

Not so many people who imagine they are better than they are here.

But ingame, wow, like 50 spiders chasing one fly.

It's not that great a car. Especially how you came by it.

Must you always be this negative?

Even to the point of attacking the guy's car...seemingly out of jealousy.

I've never seen you make a single post here that was worth half a penny that's been run over by a train.

On topic: This game affects my real life absolutely. I have become friends with people around the world who I would not have without this game/my soc. While I have wonderful RL friends/family/wife, I can not ignore the addition of these friends to my life.

PEDS is a results-oriented pedestrian advocacy organization making metro Atlanta pedestrian-friendly.

Apparently, I am helping make Atlanta pedestrian friendly.

yes, my wife is yellous on it...

yes
- I stopped spending so much on worthless things and activities in RL and caught up on pretty much all bills since I started playing.
- Now started investing in the game more which is not such a good thing although it isn't all bad either.
- Made a lot of friends all over the world instead of just local friends, diversity of friends is a good thing
- My condo is a disaster because i have not cleaned it out of boredom for a very long time, hard to be bored when EU is a click away.

no
- I still do a lot of my private hobbies that I like to do I made sure those were not consumed by playing.
- I still hang out with my local friends and do activities like go fishing, occasional bar drink etc.

Yes, I met and married a wonderful man from this game. Also have been to the UK to visit friends I made in this game. Went to Vegas and was an ambassador one year and met more friends then.

Sndlwood, that team name you HoFed on, I always wondered which Kitty that name meant?

first time I heard that one!

For me...

Yes, EU has taken lots of my time & money over the years... what I would have done with that time & money I'll never know! But I enjoy EU, so it's all good!

Aside from that, no other impact on my life I guess... I don't go out to the store dressed up as my avatar or anything... and I don't convert real cash to ped in my head every time I buy something, as I've read a few people are in the habit of doing! :money:

I don't see the positive / negative means to look at people is either useful or hopeful. I am not a battery, a machine, a thing to be turned on or off.

The car is just bragging and I have had cars like that over and over. It's a car. Neither better or worse than any other if you think functionally.

I am not trying to be positive, neutral, or negative, but honest. And in answering this thread, a decent one for a change, I was being honest.

This game brings out much of the worst in people and makes me appreciate the best in real life. Is this so tough to understand? I don't think so.

Have a nice day trying to make black white.

At one point I was so emotionally attached to EU, I couldn't not live without it. That kind of relationship or addiction is not good when you have family and children and trying to balance and share my time honestly has been a struggle. I'm sure the addiction to being in EU contributed to the failure of my marriage 5 years ago.

On a positive note; I've made some great friendships in EU, I still look forwarded to coming on line. It is a big part of my life, and I don't regret it. I rather be in EU, than drink down the local pub (bar)

The only thing I need to control now is going to bed at 2am every night.

I've skilled to the point now that I can get by in an affordable way, it's much more relaxing in game, and less stress. After 6+ years I am prepared to walk away if it is not fun anymore. Although I hope for good times moving forward, and still have personal targets that I feel I owe it to myself to achieve after so much devotion.

Yes EU has made an impact on my RL. Where to start? years ago when I withdrew some funds I payed for the xeroscaping to our house. Sometime later I withdrew enough for a new PC, Cintiq, and PS to feed my art addiction by going digital. A little over a year ago I decided to go back to school and I sold a great deal of items and skills to fund my tuition. Two semesters into my school and my job decided to help out with tuition so now I can rebuild my avatar.

So EU has had a positive impact on my life even as frustrating as bad loot can be I am thankful for opportunities the withdrawls from EU have given me over the years and I look forward many more.

For me it had two impacts in my real life.

The biggest impact for me was having friends who did not see me as an disabled woman.
Finaly I could be the person who I am, not having to explain every time why I am
spending most my time confined to a wheelchair. A great feeling to be able to run around
like a nut with everyone else.

Second impact it had, I spend a lot of more time at home with my family.
And finally kicked that workaholic addiction hahaha. :D

That was a guy in the soc called Dancekitten, who tried to talk us all into going to RT on opening day. Hen and I went for Proteron instead
