PLEASE READ ENTIRE POLL QUESTION BELOW BEFORE RESPONDING!!!

A simple yes or no poll...

Within the last three months (Sept.-Nov. 2011), have you been actively promoting Planet Calypso and/or Entropia Universe to other people?

A recent post in another thread made me curious how many forum members are actively promoting Entropia...

This poll will run until December 4th. At that time, I will request that the thread be closed, as I neglected to place a time limit on the poll. Thank you for participating. :)

Well, I've been showing off my mining log for random friends that like numbers and statistics, they all laugh at me for playing a game where you pay more for activities than in any subscription based game :(
Guess that's not so very good promoting.

As much as I love EU, it's a really hard game to promote. This is in no way a bash, but if you remove the gambling aspect it's somewhat of a grind. I did one video for my YouTube channel, as a break from the normal Minecraft and other games, and the response was underwhelming.

I managed to bring one friend aboard, but in my experience it's hard to find gamers who want a gambling aspect and have disposable incomes as well.

Since the land deeds, I have been talking it up to friends as an investment opportunity.

not very actively, so I voted no. told some guys about it after asked to =)

P.S. I know at least ten players who said they will be rabbit actively promoting if they see their spendings and skilling up during 6-7 years start showing signals that it mattered and that the costs actually get lower with years, not the opposite! oh wait, that'd mean people stick with it and that is not what the business model of MA expects, right? the model being more fun = more depositing. so, should I tell them to quit and spread whatever they want to? what message should we spread anyway, is that clear already, the success stories as such, so that people hear them and also see them coming true? :girl:

Doing what I can.

Active on the 6 main Entropia forums.
Actively promoting on 3+ non EU gaming sites.
And running my blog cashplanets.com

I love the game and think it is worth promoting. Unfortunately my love of the game limits the time I can spend on all those 'promoting' projects because I have a RL as well.

i agree, this is really tough to promote, because its a constant cost, maybe if the game stuck to just social gaming and not so much as a big casino it would be promotable for us.. i like the game alot but i already go out of my spending to play, so give me good food and ill feed the people no prob..

@ the comments about my shop website. -> much of the website, if you look closer is designed to attract newcomers to EU and provide useful information.
It's not just promoting my shop, but EU itself.
I can empathise with the person talking about not having many friends who are into gambling and have disposable cash, it seems like that a lot- gambling.

Yes, in the sense that I have been encouraging all my friends who are gamers to come join me in EU.

Not because I feel I owe it to MA or any of the PP's, but because it would make the game more fun for me.

I have four RL friends playing and show it off when ever I can.. I also go into the apple store and other computer stores, load up Entropia vids on Youtube and leave them there for others to find!! ;)

Active and promoting.
  • Mentioning the game to RL friends in the tech industry, have referred over 2 dozen people I know in real life to successfully create accounts and begin participating in the universe. Some maintain active accounts.
  • Generating buzz about EU via my own facebook profile, as well as a facebook page for my guild and a facebook page for my castle.
  • Have backlinks to EU on my guild website, and backlinks on my profile on other game websites.
  • Have advertised to EU through my own guild website, which has been a social group of individuals since 2008. Have generated successful account referrals through that site, some of whom still maintain active accounts.
  • Have a blog about my castle at http://www.castleblog.net A local group of artists currently use the castle as a way to showcase their real life artwork, trying to reach a broader audience. Some of their flyers include references to the gallery, showing people where they can see their work displayed online 24/7.
  • Have spoken in some professional circles about EU. These are mostly professional game gurus of one sort or another. The reception there has been mixed.

why would i.. im not that kinda brick.. if i lose like hell in this game why would i wanna get more ppl to join this.. i do opposite tho.. one friends friend was intrested about this game but after i told what ive lost he chose not to even try this..

I guess it all depends on what you use EU for. If youre using it as an alternative to World of Warcraft, chances are you're going to get burned by it. EU isnt ready at this time to be used in this way. I dont know if it was ever meant to be used in this way. But it does seem like the developers are interested in moving things in a direction that appeals more to the mainstream crowd, so one day it may be there.

However if youre using EU as an alternative to Second Life, which features among other things a rich social environment with almost limitless possibilities, EU has something to offer. Hunting, Mining, and Crafting in EU only exist to provide the backdrop for a wide array of social transactions to take place. Take my art gallery, for example.

One of the local artists got a contract offer through my site. They couldnt use it, but they referred the contract to someone who could use it. The contract terms were fulfilled, and the both the recipient and myself made money off the contract in terms of their asking price, and my commission as the communication portal -- while the customer got a custom portrait that they wanted shipped to their home.

EU doesnt directly offer that type of service, but if you take whats offered in the world and think about indirect benefits, the indirect benefits of having a store front that is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year become apparent. In my mind EU is the kind of product that offers almost anything if you're willing to give the idea some thought and effort, promote your own role within the idea, and ask for assistance whenever you feel stymied.

Well, I made (and give support) a website, a forum and also a youtube channel with many videos about the game. Always updated. So, not only in the last 3 months, if not in the last two years.

However, as other mates say, it's hard to do the same with my direct contacts, because the game is now becoming just a game of chance. So it is difficult to do that with people nearby to me. (the best way to understand this last is: maybe some guy is addicted to cocaine, however he does not want his brother also consume cocaine) ;)

I do mention it to people who may be interested but they tend to stick with their existing MMO (RuneScape, Wow as two recent examples) or those (who have like a flutter, gambling type) prefer to stick to horse racing.

I wish this new marketing campaign well though. :)

I'v told um what the game's about and such, so yea :D

Not actively promoting, but i have brought a few friends in game over the time i've been here.

Most are still around :)

You should have made this poll of 4 options, results could be more interesting:
  • have land deed(s), promoting
  • have land deed(s), not promoting
  • don't have deed(s), promoting
  • don't have deed(s), not promoting
As for me, there are nobody left to promote to. Everybody I know who potentially might be interested already have been here and left - of good 4 dozens only 2 people are still here. I managed to lure some back after major updates, but in the end they left anyway. Most of them now play other MMOs and don't like neither to remember their experience in EU nor to talk about it.

And you know what happens when you try to promote and even say a good word about EU on game forums :silly2:. They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but with EU it's definitely not the case.

I did not do as aggressively as I should have done but I always do it a little bit in my own way.
I always have Entropia in head so I always end up talking about Entropia with everyone I talk to more than 30 minutes.

For me its kinda hard to promote because my family and friends think im crazy or stupid playing this...

I know some WoW fans that tried the old PE before VU 9. they said - it's a very good concept, a lot of potential, the graphics should be updated (cryengine was in plans then) but that alone is not enough to get us moving over, we need cool missions, you know... =)

I guess other activities such as taming, beacons and maybe other future ones will attract even more people.

do they play other games, like any? and do they know enough details so they would accept you enjoying it? make a live stream for friends so they see what you actually do there. :smoke:

Nah... the statement that prompted this was simple and to the point, so I wanted the poll to be simple as well.

i did tell pepol in other games abut eu but not anymore becouse of what they did to the hangars owners and the lack of no response from kim/ma so voted no
