Longtooths from Adolescent to Guardian have been known to deal 100% Impact damage while Longtooth Dominants and above have been suspected to deal a mix of about 70% Impact to 30% Penetration (see this thread by Mega for more information regarding Longtooth maturities).

Below you will find some recommended Armor set ups for each known Longtooth maturity, starting with set-ups that will 'underprotect', followed by 'Balanced' set-ups which should allow a hunter to hunt continuously without the need to heal, and ending with set-ups that would 'overprotect' the hunter. These recommendations are made based on what Armors are most popular in the game, or which ones are most easily available or cheapest. For clarity and ease of reading, I've omitted many armors which just aren't that easy to find for purchase, either on the auction or in this forum.

Balanced recommendations made below aim to protect sufficiently so that there is no need to heal, since healing is generally more expensive than armor protection (consider these recommendations balanced for someone with an Evade level ~20, if yours is much higher, you may not need as much protection).

Please note also that these recommendations are made based on information gathered during past Migrations and there is no guarantee that everything will be 100% identical this time around, MA might have some surprises in store for us. Should anything be different, I will update these recommendations below as soon as I am made aware.
---------

I'm assuming that it will be virtually impossible to account for every hunting style out there but I will grade my recommendations in the following 3 sub-categories to give people more options:

Underprotected: These armor set-ups will block from ~70-80% of the maximum damage that the mob can do. This choice will result in a solo hunter probably having to heal or wait for their health to regenerate occasionally, especially when using unlimited gear, which will protect less and less as it decays during the hunt. However if you are hunting in a team, have a high Evade level or a Health Regen buff (such as a ring), than consider one of these options.

Balanced: These armor set-ups will block from ~80-90% of the maximum damage that the mob can do. These options will allow a solo hunter to keep hunting continuously without having to worry about healing (of course that could depend on the frequency of Critical Hits).

Overprotected: Indicates a set-up which provides more protection than is really needed. Although these choices will not result in excessive protection costs like they used to before Loot 2.0, they also won't allow a solo hunter to take full advantage of free Health Regeneration, if that is what the person wants. However it should be taken into consideration that a higher level Armor could very well have an additional 2k points of durability, which would make your armor protection about 1.5% cheaper overall (example Nemesis versus Pixie or Goblin). Overprotecting as a hunting style shouldn't be disregarded too quickly, it very well could be the cheaper way to go in some cases, especially when someone must choose between having to fap, or not having to fap.

I suspect that the Stalkers might actually do a bit less than 30% Penetration damage, but until someone can confirm this with testing, I have to assume that they do 30% for the purpose of making Armor recommendations for hunting them.

Patriarch and Matriarch are, afaik shared loot mobs... someone please confirm.

Happy Longtooth hunting o/

NOTE: In the summer of 2021, MA changed the damage distribution for Eomon. These armor recommendations have not yet been revised to fit the new damage.

EOMON (50% Impact / 50% Stab)
The damage types dealt by the Eomon are 50% Impact & 50% Stab damage. The Eomon is a shared loot mob and is not really intended to be taken down by solo hunters. Although it is possible to hunt Eomon solo, it is rather difficult to do for the average hunter.

From Strongest to Weakest, here are some of the more popular choices when hunting Eomon, the number to the right indicates the total amount of Impact/Stab protection the armor or plate provides (Armors and Plates whose names below are blue are available at the Migration Armor Shop):

Armors:
Perseus ............ 93
Rutuba ............. 91
Anti Virus ......... 90
Sentinel ........... 89.5
Mayhem ............. 87.6
Chronicle .......... 83
Lich ............... 75
Spartacus .......... 72
Shadow ............. 69
Vain ............... 68
Moonshine .......... 66
Angel & Holy ....... 60
Aquila ............. 60
Spam ............... 60
Eon ................ 50
Ozpyn Force ........ 50
Martial & Stealth .. 49
Spectre ............ 49

Plates:
AP-66 Stab/Impact .. 66
AP-60 Stab/Impact .. 60
AP-54 Stab/Impact .. 54
AP-48 Stab/Impact .. 48
AP-42 Stab/Impact .. 42
AP-36 Stab/Impact .. 36
Pulsar 5 ........... 33
Pulsar 10 .......... 31
AP-30 Stab/Impact .. 30
Moonshine Plate 1 .. 26
NEVERDIE mk3 ....... 24
AP-24 Stab/Impact .. 24
Mark.8A ............ 21
NEVERDIE mk2 ....... 20
Mark.5B ............ 20
AP-18 Stab/Impact .. 18

Pulsar 8 ........... 17

Eomon young hit for a max 139 damage (which means the average hit will be around 104), so if your plan is to hunt Eomon young solo, you should aim for a total Stab/Impact protection of around 110-120, ideally 60 Stab and 60 Impact. An example would be Spartacus armor + AP-42 Impact plates, which would provide a total of 114 points of protection against Eomon young. Another example would be Shadow armor + AP-42 Stab plates, which would provide a total 111 points of Impact/Stab protection, which should allow you to hunt Eomon youngs with minimal healing.

Protector of the Empire

I applaud your work, and scoping out recommended armor, but Protector of the Empire is a great all around armor, and is very capable to be put into your calculations, and it has excellent durability compared to armors like Supremacy.

if someone is looking for a set of POTE, hit me up, I can help.

Cheers,

Why recommend ~50 protection against a mob that does 42 dam?

eg. Angel or Holy + AP-18 Impact armor plates

You could swap AP-18 for AP-12 or .5b and it would work just as well. In fact I would say go a little under this and take the occasional bit of dam and let natural regen do it's work.

BTW: I was hunting Longtoth guards naked with adj resto chip last year. Of course, it will depend on your hp, evade and weapon but it's another option.

Hi slither, there's a couple of reasons for the 'overkill' (about 6 points of protection above what is required). The first reason is to provide some additional protection when receiving Critical hits, the second reason is as a buffer to account for the reduction in protection due to decay. Let's face it, most people are going to use Mark.5B, Mark.5A or Mark.2A plates, which are unlimited, meaning that as they decay, their protection value also decreases. If a hunter protects himself for exactly 12 Impact damage to hunt Adolescents, using an unlimited Goblin armor, he will find that after a couple of hours, he will need to constantly heal himself because damage is now getting through his armor almost with every hit.

Remember:
The set ups below aim to protect sufficiently so that there is no need to heal (consider these recommendations balanced for someone with an Evade level ~20, if yours is much higher, you may not need as much protection).

Cheers o/

You are better off making a list of applicable armors and a range of damage that you can take on being hit by either mob.

Your metric for the armor doesn't quite reflect reality and therefore isn't super useful.

you can easily do lt young with a pixie/goblin/gnome (etc) + 5 b's.

No need for such extremely expensive armours. Way overprotected!

Although it was a nice initiative, you are giving bad advices here.
Avatars have HP regeneration and some even have items to give them Life Steal. By going your way, the overprotection route, we aren't taking advantage of all that free HP while paying more for the armor repair. :eyecrazy:

+1

Looks like this is forum hunter thread and anyone actually hunting in game should look elsewhere. Pointless thread.

Not just a bit overprotected, but WAY overprotected

the adolescent to a MAX of 12 dmg.
Their dmg potential is 6~12.
So on average they only do 9 dmg.
Your pixie alone would be more than enough.
Come on, hunting adolescents with a nemesis!?!?!

This way you will never level up your healing skills. So I would never advice this overprotecting.

overprotecting barely matters in loot 2.0 anyways with armor decay factored into loot calculations, especially if you've got a big UL set where tiers are often extremely valuable, you should probably just wear it everywhere

in terms of losing out on your natural regen is really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, though if you have an armor set available that will protect you just enough to get some use out of your natural regen that technically would be ideal

although of course if you've got an adj/imp/mod resto, imp/mod fap etc type healing tool then relying on that as much as possible may be a better choice as well as they're more cost effective

It does matter, and for the reason I gave.

It's really cool to have an uber armour. Never needing to heal. Great!

Then once you will start to hunt real mobs, you discover that your armour doesnt overprotect anymore, and you need to heal.
But since you never healed before because you were over protected, you're stuck with your vivo S10.

So, to give a noob the advice to hunt adolescent with nemesis is imo a very bad advice!
Let him hunt in a pixie, and let him heal every now and then.

Longtooths from Adolescent to Guardian have been known to deal 100% Impact damage while Longtooth Dominants and above have been suspected to deal a mix of about 70% Impact to 30% Penetration (see this thread by Mega for more information regarding Longtooth maturities).

Below you will find some recommended Armor set ups for each known Longtooth maturity, starting with the weakest armors and working our way up to Armors that are strong enough to be used on their own, without any armor plates added. These recommendations are made based on what Armors are most popular in the game, or which ones are most easily available or cheapest. For clarity and ease of reading, I've omitted many armors which just aren't that easy to find for purchase, either on the auction or in this forum. The set ups below aim to protect sufficiently so that there is no need to heal (consider these recommendations balanced for someone with an Evade level ~20, if yours is much higher, you may not need as much protection).

Lastly, please note that these recommendations are made based on information gathered during past Migrations and there is no guarantee that everything will be 100% identical this time around, MA might have some surprises in store for us. Should anything be different, I will update these recommendations below as soon as I am made aware.

100% Impact Longtooth
Longtooth Adolescent (12 dmg):
Musca Adjusted or Vigilante + Mark.2A or Mark.3A armor plates (total 12-13 points)
Pixie, Gnome or Shogun + Mark.2B armor plates (total 12-13 points)
Kobold, Goblin, Knight or Koroma (total 12-13 points)
Aurora, Nemesis, Gremlin, Rascal or Viceroy (total 15 points: overprotected)

Longtooth Young, Mature & Old (29-36 dmg):
Bear, Zombie, Boar or Ghost + AP-18 Impact armor plates (total 35-37 points)
Jarhead or Jaguar + AP-12 Impact, Mark.5B or Mark.8A armor plates (total 32-35 points)
Tiger, Phantom or Solir + Mark.5A armor plates (total 32-33 points)
Martial, Spartacus or Aquila + Mark.2A or Mark.3A armor plates (total 33 points)
Angel or Holy + Mark.2A, Mark.3A or Mark.4A armor plates (total 35-36 points)
Moonshine or Spam (total 35 points)

Longtooth Guardian & Provider (41-42 dmg):
Martial, Spartacus or Aquila + AP-12 Impact, Mark.5B or Mark.8A armor plates
Angel or Holy + AP-12 Impact, Mark.5B or Mark.8A armor plates
Moonshine or Spam + AP-6 Impact, Mark.4A or Mark.5A armor plates
Mayhem, Malware, Lich or Shadow
Rutuba, Perseus, Supremacy or Anti Virus (overprotected)

70% Impact / 30% Penetration Longtooth
Longtooth Dominant & Alpha (70-74 dmg):
Cetus or Pegasus + AP-36 Impact armor plates
Vain, Hermes or Eon + AP-30 Impact or Pulsar 5 armor plates
Spartacus + AP-24 Impact or Pulsar 5 armor plates
Anti Virus + AP-24 Penetration or Pulsar 6 armor plates
Necromancer + AP-24 Penetration, Moonshine plate 2 or Pulsar 6 armor plates
Moonshine + AP-18 Impact or Pulsar 10 armor plates
Mayhem or Perseus + Mark.3B
Shadow or Supremacy
Sentinel, Infiltrator or Rutuba (overprotected)

Longtooth Old Alpha & Prowler (80-86 dmg):
Vain or Pegasus + AP-42 Impact armor plates
Hermes or Eon + AP-36 Impact armor plates
Spartacus + AP-30 Impact or Pulsar 5 armor plates
Shadow or Supremacy + AP-12 Impact, Mark.5B or Mark.8A armor plates
Infiltrator or Rutuba + + Mark.2A or Mark.3A armor plates
Sentinel or Carramone

Longtooth Stalker and above (>98 dmg):
Spartacus, Dune Rider, Ethereal or Wormslayer + AP-42 Impact armor plates
RX OpTac x2 + AP-36 Impact armor plates
Supremacy or RX OpTac x1 + AP-24 Impact or Pulsar 5 armor plates
Infiltrator or Rutuba + AP-18 Impact or Pulsar 5 armor plates
Sentinel or Carramone

Consider the above a first draft for now, I plan to keep on improving upon it, but as is, it's quite usable.

Patriarch and Matriarch are, afaik shared loot mobs... someone please confirm.

Happy Longtooth hunting o/

why not come up with your own recommendations? Mine are not perfect and I will improve them, are you unable to contribute something?

No, he didn't.

But maybe it's the way you bring your critics?
If you feel he's giving the wrong advice, maybe add something constructive instead? ;)

Overprotection is not a mortal sin anymore in 2.0, true that.
However, paying extra to achieve it would make sense only in a timed dps event, where you don't want to spend time fapping.
Migration is long enough to fap a couple times :silly2: only thing you have to worry about is avoiding dying too often.

Disclosure: this particular noob shot Longtooth Adolescent naked a few years ago, and I was barely lvl ~15 evader at that time.

With even lower evader one might need something like plain (not adj) Pixie, but that depends on your dps as well.

Thanks for the feedbacks and comments and rest assured that these recommendations are still a work in progress and I will continue to improve them for a wider range of hunting styles.

As far as overprotecting goes, I see that there is much passion on this. According to my own research on this subject I have come to the conclusion that the average healing tool costs more than 200% (sometimes more than 300%) the amount in decay for the same hp than armor does. It makes absolutely no sense now, since the changes to armor decay costs rolled out in loot 2.0 last summer, to favor healing over armor protection. To those that are lucky enough to own an Adjusted Resto chip or Mod FAP, than sure, you should continue to hunt naked and just rely on your healing tool, it is still cheaper then armor, but if like me, all you have is an average healing tool, then you would be wiser to favor sufficient armor protection over fapping, if you care about economy that is (and not everyone cares about economy).

I am not recommending that people go out and buy a set of Nemesis to hunt Adolescents, I am only showing where Nemesis would fit in if you happen to own the set already. My aim with these recommendations is to also provide a quick reference to hunters who already own several armor sets where they can see what is possible with their sets. I did make a note to the right that anyone using Nemesis to hunt Adolescents would be 'overprotected', which by the way, isn't really a thing anymore since Loot 2.0 but I understand the argument that we should take advantage of the free health regeneration.

If a hunter was to use regular Pixie to hunt Adolescents which protects for only 9 Impact, they would end up having to heal and the Original Post does specify that the recommendations I was making were aimed to provide sufficient protection so that a hunter wouldn't have to heal. Pixie is an unlimited armor set and within an hour, it would have decayed enough that it would only provide 8 points of Impact or less. I don't want to repair my armor every hour when I go hunt something, I find that quite inconvenient, so for that reason, I would recommend protecting for a minimum of 11 Impact if you are going to be using unlimited gear to hunt Adolescents, so that you can hunt for 2 or 3 hours without any problem.

However, I am taking all comments and feedbacks into consideration and I will include some armor set-ups that would result in 'underprotected' for those that have high Evade skills, are hunting in a team, have a Health Regen buff, or just want to fap every once in a while to skill first aid.

I also welcome any recommendations that anyone wishes to make and will consider adding them.

Cheers o/

Let him hunt in a pixie, and let him heal every now and then.

I know some people pride themselves in having 'natural' skills, but given that you only have access to a 10heal/pec fap wouldn't it be cheaper to not heal and use the peds saved to buy healing skills?

I guess a new player with a non sib power gun could easily participate with these armor setups. And while that may not be eco or recommended, it can surely be a lot of fun.
And fun is what you want from a game.

You forget that healing costs are also returned in loot.
And I point to you again that healing is a necessity. You will have to skill up your healing if you want to succeed long term. And overprotecting does not help in that.

The example about the pixie on adolescents, on average you will get 0~3 dmg.
So healing is just minimal. The FREE vivoS10 can more than easily handle this.

This would be a perfect combination.

And lets be honest, people who have a nemesis suit won't need your advice anyways. If they invested in a nemesis suit already, they have far passed the stage of needing advice to hunt adolescents :D

I think the only valuable info in this thread is you mentioning the dmg types and amount of dmg that these mobs do.
Based on that people can find their own armours on wikipedia, depending on their play style.

Well, yes, if this is your style, it's ok.

But this I dont know, "is it cheaper to buy healing skills than to skill up by using a S10?" Especially now healing costs are partially returned in loot?

Alright, I have pretty much completely overhauled the first post and categorized everything to give people more choices, i.e. Underprotect, Balanced or Overprotect.

I think there are plenty of options now for Longtooth Adolescents to Guardian which are affordable and therefore there's really no reason to show combinations of armor+plate using Pulsar 5 or Pulsar 10, which are very expensive, so I won't show any of those.

I still have a lot of work to do on the 2nd post, just consider that a rough draft for now. I should have it finalized within the next couple of days.

Cheers,

Why?

Hes account is from 2006. There is so much information about EU around, that you could write 50 volume encyclopedia and yet you still make such posts. He is giving bad advice.

If he has not learned anything in that time, you think any of my input would help?

yes, and I totally agree with you.
i think most of the info here is not relevant.

It would not have been my setup either.
All the info is already widely available.

But the idea behind it, trying to help people out is good.

But to just piss on somebody taking all this effort is not very nice.
I mean, if you have critics about it, post it, but try to be constructive instead of just pissing on him.

I know that's not always your style
