Apologies if this isn't a good place for this.

For the last few days EU won't log off nicely for me. Used to be I'd exit, let the timer count down or take the immediate option, and BOOM! back to the desktop. Not any more. Now it gets to 1 and sits there, and I can't Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del or anything. I have to use the oh crap button and completely restart, which is a pain in the rump. Nothing's changed, I haven't installed any new programs or changed any hardware or even done a windows update. I do usually run QCD in the background since the in-game music got old real quick. Is there anything I can do? Any advice? :)

I'm running a 2.5 GHz dual core, 2 GB memory, Windows XP w/SP3, GeForce 7900 with 256 MB.

so u just let the count-down finish right and then it gets stuck isnt it?
what about just pressing the button that logs u out immediately?

Same thing happens to me and a few soc mates quite regularly. It normally happens to me when I have been logged in for a long period of time, but not always. If it happens enough to where it makes you want to pull your hair out, I suggest alt+tabbing out, then ctrl+alt+del and end the process.

Probably 80-90% of my logoffs and relogs are like this and have been for ages :(

Dunno if it is worse for Vista users or not.

I know of a lot of others that have this problem too, most simply seem to accept it and if you exit then simply do it immediately and be prepared for the RAM chewing Ctrl+Alt+Del then end task thing.

We probably should spam them with support cases I guess.

GL ;)

every single time it happens to me without fail its a pain in the arse, vista user

Tried running the game in windowed mode? It might just solve the issue for ya ... :)

I, too, have to ctrl-alt-del nearly every time to quit (vista user). Annoying as heck... :(

puh... when I read the topic i already thought...

For what it's worth, I am fairly sure that it only happens to me if I let the countdown go all the way. If I hit Exit a second time before then, it never seems to have the problem.

Looks crap on a 22" screen tho :p

...and no difference for me if I let the counter go down or not.

The not correct termination of the entropia.exe task seems to be a feature ;)
Happens in 80% of times for me in XP and Vista, regardless of full screen or window mode.
The only advantage of using window mode is that you are able to terminate the entropia.exe task in XP with the task manager or in Vista by clicking the window and select terminate after it gets stuck (works in 95%).

I run windowed mode all the time, it happens to me about 80% of the times too.

In windowed mode it's just a bit easier to terminate the process since you still have access to your computer.

Also, why would windowed mode look crap on a 22" lol, it looks the same on everything regardless of size. But indeed, no difference with the issue.

The same shit did happen to me 50% of the time under Vista.

But recently I removed the ugly thing and returned to XP SP3 and have no problem with logout anymore.

coz its ummm....smaller than a 22" screen??

I always had this problem with all of my computers, but the new vista computer I got does this the least, and when I do get stuck now the vista 64 bit system with ctrl+alt+del takes care of the problem.

some of my older pcs had to to reboot but not with the two new computers I have.

Vista 64bit user and it happends for me alot, its not that hard to solve, but the irony is that when i alt+tab it most often dies instantly.

I`m on XP and it happens to me quite often. Always has and I get the feeling it always will. Sometimes it eventually shuts down and goes back to my desktop on it`s own. Sometimes I have to ctrl+alt+del and others I have to reset my computer all together. I have`nt tried from windows mode. Only used it once and can`t stand it.

Thanks guys, I'll try windowed mode, but like I said in the first post, when it gets stuck I *can't* alt+tab or get into task manager to shut it down, because the game is totally locked. The computer isn't, I can still use my multimedia keys to control the music, but the game itself... no dice.

Maybe I'll see what support says.

Thanks everyone!

Jay

Edit: Maybe windowed mode will fix the stupid directx memory error that prevents me from using PEAss...

Happens to me on Vista 64bit, and happened to me on XP as well. I have gotten into the habit of alt-tabbing out as soon as I start the countdown timer - before it has a chance to lock-up, which is typically when the timer gets to 1. Then I use Process Explorer to kill the process, as it's much faster (instantly!) than letting Windows do it with Task Manager.

I have the same problem on XP. I always play windowed, and everytime I log out it crashes, the window just becomes stuck on the screen. ctrl>Alt>Del --> Processes --> Entropia.exe --> End Process is faster than Applications --> End Task. More often than not I wait for the timer to get to 1, but now I wonder what exactly is the timer for? can just press Exit again, same thing happens tho.

many times this problems can be that u dont have same resolution as ur desktop, Or u maybe have too high resolution for your computer

and iff u have vista it can also be one problem.

i have this problem sometimes i have too puch ctr+alt+del to cancel the game
and im using vista and a great computer :( weird yes

I like the way you think GRoth! That I'm going to try.

Myself, I've got the resolutions matched, so I don't think that's the problem. And window mode is too distracting to use.

Thanks everyone!
