Well hello, I finally dragged myself out of bed after another crazy EU weekend. It was a lot of fun, but wow, were those ever long days - but I think you can see that from the pictures! We figured by the end we had spent 46 hours in 4 days at the Festival!!! You can watch us all wear down as the pictures progress! lol
This festival was a last minute surprise. And when we found out, it was 'we're going'....'hmmm, maybe we're not going'.....'ok we're really really going next week and John won't be there until Saturday so we're on our own for setup!" So I ran around the house like crazy packing things up and getting ready - I even had to pack a guinea pig with our daughter!!! So Thursday morning we head out to the airport with our poor little girl crying as she watched us walk away.

This was my first commercial flight - I grew up just outside of Toronto where all the daddies wanted to show off and took me up on their corporate and private planes so not my first time in the air - but anyways, this was all new to me. The flight out was smooth and easy and pretty short. I think they said we were in the air 53 minutes. As we took off we reflected on our first days in EU (or PE back then) five years ago, and how we never could have imagined we'd be flown around by MA and be the "experts" for potential noobs! If you had told me this would happen my first day out there at the sweat farm I would have told you to get your head checked! So we landed and thought we had a crazy time crunch to set up the booth by 5:00pm, so we ran for a taxi, checked in at the hotel, threw our stuff in the room and ran to meet up with the rest of the Ambassadors. The boxes of EU disks had already arrived at the hotel, so we loaded it all up in Danoclease's truck. We felt bad some of the guys had to walk, but we just didn't all fit. We pulled out of our parking spot and went 20 feet to a red light and TA DA there was the venue! lol. So the guys walking beat us there. So after all this running we get to our space at about 3:30pm and...it's empty! They hadn't delivered the computers or TV, there was no internet and there were only some weird narrow tables and bar stools. So we waited...and waited...and waited. The Festival team had hit some bumps in the road so everyone was held up. Slowly the pieces came together. During all this Rex was calling UPS to see where our booth was. It was determined it would arrive Saturday at the earliest. Ug. So it was a good thing Rex had burned a DVD as a back up to run on the TV. And since the DVD player had not arrived, Dano had to bring his from home. While we waited for everything, we decided we needed pizza. So Dano and I went for a walk trying to find pizza. Shouldn't be hard right? Wrong! It was four and a half blocks away tucked under other stores, barely noticeably from the sidewalk! That's ok, we were all starving and chowed down. While we ate we watched the festival's network staff run around looking very frustrated. Apparently the wrong modems had arrived and they told us they had to hack the modems to make it all work.

So we got Internet some time after midnight

BUT! we couldn't access any ftps, so no EU updates! Not good. So we sent the rest of the guys to get some sleep and Rex and I finally got all the updates installed and left around 1:00am. This was supposed to be our night to settle in and relax. Not so.
So day 2 - Friday. Obviously we were moving a little slow the next morning. There were coffee cups every way you looked!

But thankfully, it was a slow morning so we could all wake up at a comfortable pace. Our first mission was to translate the "tips" sheet into french. Rex ran it thru Google translator but it needed serious attention from the french-speaking ambassadors. It was tedious work and they all took a good long look to make sure it was just so.

At some point we discovered Rex (who had been responsible for all things techy in our packing) had forgotten to pack our gold cards! ACK!

So neither of us could log in all weekend. We called a friend, Fairplay, and asked if we could use his account and he called right back and said he was driving up right away - an 8 or 9 hour drive in the best of conditions. So anyways, Friday at the Festival was the school trip day. So it was a lot of 13 year olds who wouldn't get off of the computers once they were on and would not listen when we told them that they weren't in PvP areas. Ug. But the parents and teachers were very interested. Dano had to drive all over the city getting copies of the "tips" sheets and picking up the few boxes the couriers managed to deliver to our hotel. So part way thru Friday we got a banner that said who we were at last. Around lunchtime, Rex got a call from NEVERDIE saying he and Cheri were in the city, not to worry. But the festival's production team was worried. They had big plans for NEVERDIE and they wanted to know where he was! He was their big celebrity for the weekend!

So NEVERDIE and Cheri arrived mid afternoon and production was happy. But it was too quiet at the festival Friday to bother putting him on stage. So the day went on. And on. And on. The response was good, and most people spoke English so Rex and I were still able to be helpful. By 9:00pm, I'd had it. I made Rex walk me back to our hotel room. My poor legs needed a rest. But I said it was ok if some of the guys came to hang out and have a drink and a chat afterwards because our hotel room was roomier, so they did.

And I slept like the dead all Friday night.
Well, time for a break in my story. Much to do now that I'm home.
To be continued....
