Currently just gives you ability to use weapons that have skill requirements over level 100

You also get some side skill benefits of evader/hp too

I was under the impression skills are what make EU not a giant slot machine. How is this not gambling?

In EU you can take your winnings and sell them to other players with a mark up. You can also buy and sell on the Auction House. In a casino, a dollar is worth a dollar, not in EU.

Higher skills also allow you to compete at the highest levels in the game, some people thrive on competition.

There are certainly parallels that could be drawn between a casino and EU, but there are also major differences between the two.

It is a game of skill. People who are ignorant can treat games of skill like gambling.

It is a game of skill, not a ponzi scheme. Higher levels allow you to use more powerful and sometimes more efficient gear. Does not mean at level 500 you'll be able to profit with shit gear and no knowhow on how to play the game.

You can teach a man to fish, but a dead horse is right twice a day.

With markup so low, is it possible to play the game at a moderate investment level and still make 100%+? This economy seems oversaturated on most drops.
There are two reasonable reasons why you could be perceiving the markup as "so low", either you're collecting the wrong stuff, or you're selling at the wrong time.

What is a moderate investment level? Is it 10$ per month? Is it a lump sum deposit of 500$? Either way it is possible.
Also, I can't find a reason to sit on skills that are above and beyond a nice UL weapon.
There's no need to, you can do just fine at a lower level. The main benefit of more skills is more opportunities. If you are confident in your opportunities at the level you are, there is no need to go higher.
Seems like RCE just replaces the terms random drop rate with gambling and skills with ponzi scheme.
Anything that has a pseudorandom chance of anything can facilitate gambling if that is what you desire.

What you mean by skills being a ponzi scheme, I'm not sure. Noone but you gain any benefits from you skilling up.

My suggestions to you are:

Treat the game a bit like a sandbox game, it pretty much is anyways. There are no predefined goals or any end to this game. Make your own.

If you are dissatisfied with the cost of playing the game, take a step back and consider that there are people who are playing at a high level without depositing. Start small, find a way to fund your gameplay without depositing, and then scale up.

Well, the reason I quoted this, was to take this opportunity to HIGHLIGHT to all players, that you have the choice.
Don't be stubborn chasing rainbow that you can't reached.
