Hi everyone. Today i noticed, the reputation given and Reputation power infoboxes are back. I wondered how exactly reputation power is composed, i searched, but got no definite answer on this, just some collections of estimates.

So factors that matter are usually
longevity,
post count
own reputation.

So how exactly is the setting for it here on PCF. Please post your relevant parameters and let us figure out how it could possibly be composed:

My figures:

Join date: 05/22/2009 ( 5 years )
Post count: 2420
Reputation: 7055 Points
Reputation Power: 19 Points.

Give us some data points to start calculating.

So most stuff less than you, yet have higher rep power.. probably because i joined earlier.

This thread is about user rankings and titles, but leaves out how exactly reputation power is calculated.

how exactly reputation power is calculated.

A mere sum of reputation powers of those who repped you (at the moment they did it)?

Check if your rep increased by 42 :)

edit: ah, I missed you're talking about the power itself :duh:

One thing is safe to say atm. PCF does not use the default VBB values :)

In VBB are three parameters in the configuration that determine RepPower:

https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/vboptions_reputation

Register Date Factor,
Post Count Factor,
Reputation Point Factor.

So the "Join Date" is a factor too huh? No wonder Nadie and Angel O2 Mercer had different rep. power despite having close post counts and reputations.

And PW3CKA and Angel O2 Mercer having the same rep. power despite having similar post counts but vastly different reputations.

Funny. The closest approximation atm i get with the values
rdf = 200 ;
pcf = 575;
rpf = 1000;

although i thhink that must be wrong as i always assumed until now that rdf is 365, but for that i can't find a appropriate combination of the others, that matches the data sample.

So far...

The answer to the question: "Who does someone have to fuck around here to get good rep" is: Nighthawk at 71, and Svarog at 42.

Mine is only worth 13...nobody wants that shit :(

My theory is that rep power is derived from a combination of Reputation Points received and also activity. It's a total guess though so I could be wrong.

In VBB are three parameters in the configuration that determine RepPower:

https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/vboptions_reputation

Register Date Factor,
Post Count Factor,
Reputation Point Factor.

  • Register Date Factor
The number of reputation points that a user is able to give or take is dependant on several factors, with the length they have been registered as one of them. A user's power is first initialized at 1 and then this factor and the factors that follow are used to increase it. For example if you set this to 365, every 365 days that the user has been a member of your forum, they would gain one point. So if they have been a member for five years, they would gain 5 points of power for a total of 6.
  • Post Count Factor
The amount of posts that a user has can also affect their reputation power. Set this to number of posts that you want to award one point for. For example, set this to 50 and for a user with 500 posts, they would gain 10 points of power.

  • Reputation Point Factor
The users current reputation score can also affect their reputation power. Set this to 100 and a user with a reputation of 1000 would gain 10 points of reputation power. If you set any of the power factors to 0, that will effectively remove that factor from having an effect on the user's reputation power.

So the affect all 3 have, are decided by the boss :) He could choose to make registered date almost irrelevant, or post count mean nearly nothing, and have it all weighted on current reputation points, or have it all in a kinda balance :)

I've not been round long enough or talk enough to get any kinda of proper power :( ;)

I'm not very active posting so maybe this helps:

Join date: 12-19-2005
Total posts: 1584

Reputation received: 4003
Reputation power: 21

Using provided data with linear regression model, the best estimate I get is:

p = int( 0.145188124 + d*0.004538102 + po*0.001904938 + r*0.000925993 )

where:
p - rep power
d - number of days since registration
po - number of posts
r - reputation received
int() - function rounding number down to an integer

Last column shows data (and deviation) calculated using above formula.
Only data of avatars who provided full date of joining was used in calculations.

I'm sure somebody can do better job than that.
