Skill Scanner

A quick question for you

At the moment it calculates market value with out the buyouts. I know there is no way round this.

Would it be possible in a later version to change the market value manually of a particular skill, and then for it to calculate costs etc?

This is already possible, if you have an account.

You have to go to the chipping optimizer page, load your skills from the local database, with your user/pwd, and define custom prices for skill implants and ESIs in the "Chip Prices" tab (you only have to override the chips you want to customize, the rest will still take the default price).

Then, you have to save your custom chip prices there, in the chipping optimizer (note that it is the same button to save your skills and to save your custom chip prices).

From now on, the market values shown by the skill scanner will take those new custom prices into account.

in addition to what you can do with the free version, if you have an account, you get:
- calculation of professional levels
- calculation of skill TT value and skill net value
- progress tracking of skill gains per run
(the demo of the above is, well, basically the empty grids you see in the scanner, will not be empty anymore :p)
- 1-click upload of your skills to the chipping optimizer web app.
- skill/profession history tracking, check the link provided by wizzszz before (here it is again: http://jdegre.net/pe/charts/skillhist.php). if you want to see some fancy charts, enter "jdegre" in the username box, and leave the pwd empty.
- dynamic forum sig ("dynamic" as in "always up-to-date")

It's possible that I'm to lazy to search the web for the amount and where to donate but after a quick look trough your links i can't find it. How much is it and what paypal account should it be donated to (If I decide to..)?

In the upper right hand corner of the page, there's a paypal link.

Chipping Optimizer Tool

I still can't find the amount.

There is no fixed amount, after all it's a donation, you give what you are willing to donate.
Somewhere between 5 and 10 US$ (50 - 100 PED) seems fair, but i am sure Jdegre won't be mad if you give more...

And, you might prefer meeting up with Jdegre ingame, and donate in PEDs - no matter which you chose, he will have to manually register an account for you (you need to provide a username and a password), so maybe the direct (ingame) way is easier for you.

so? archeologist/Treasaure hunter?

with my skill i have a level of 13.5515 in TH and 3.4411 for archeologist. here are my skills

thanks for the info, mate, but the first thing we need is the list of contributing skills. once these are narrowed down, the calc. of the %'s is more or less straightforward; but, without the list of skills, it is extremely hard.

Seeing how MA work, i wouldnt' be surprised if the skills are the same as the other mining profession.

v0.39

Just uploaded the new version, to scan the new skills introduced in this VU.

I have updated as well the server to include the new skills and professions, so they show up in the optimizer, but the % influence is still unknown.

Thanks jdegre I'll certainly feedback once I get my tantallions around it ;)

Does this work with windows 7? I tried pressing prt scrn and it did nothing.

I have Windows 7, and I found that for me it will only work while in windowed mode for whatever reason.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

if you have the "aero" theme enabled in your desktop, then win7 will not put screen captures into the windows clipboard, when you are running directX games in full screen mode. this is a known issue in windows. the only workaround, if you really want to make it work in full screen mode, is to disable aero.

to do that, you have to go to the EU icon in your desktop, and do (in win7): right click -> properties -> compatibility -> disable desktop composition

this way, aero is disabled while you're running EU, and re-enabled as soon as you exit EU.

still, i also play in full screen mode, and i prefer to switch to window mode (alt+enter), just to scan my skills. much easier.

v0.40

Just uploaded version 0.40, adding the new skills and professions.

I assume the profession "Spacecraft Engineering" should be "Spacecraft Engineer", and should go to Construction category, instead of Combat, but I have kept it identical to what EU says at the moment. I'll change it if/when EU changes it.

Jdegre, I'm having issues with the new release I downloaded today. It is not seeing any of my skills and writting them off as 0.00 for the majority of my skills some do appear but only a few it's even affecting attributes like health says 0.00. Not sure what is the issue but I never had such a dilema using your software before. I've tried rescanning pages on my menu, waiting for the ding like always and scanned my skills 3 times over to no avail. Please find out whats wrong here, as I wanted to upload my skills.

not saying this is right but i had that problem in the past and it was down to updating java, worth a try anyway :)

Yes, something is broken, some profession levels came out as negative or 0.00.

And, is there actually someone working on the breakdown for the new professions?
Are there some fresh data sets with their corresponding pro standings available?

I though we might as well use the gaussian elimination method (which would work even w/o knowing which skills contribute, given we have enough complete skill sets), but i won't waste my time on coding as long as your brute force thingie works fine & you're actually at it...

i have not been able to reproduce the error myself, but i have seen that the site is sometimes very slow. in those cases, something that can happen is that the skill scanner processes one screen and sends the data to the server; if the server does not answer (you can see it has answered from the text "done!" in the text area), and you keep scanning the rest of the screens, maybe things get out of sync. i'll check out the code, and try to reproduce that behaviour.

recently, i have entered a temptative skill breakdown for the Vehicle Structural Engineer profession, but it needs further checks, and more skill data for the higher level unlockable skills.

for the rest, well, it is as simple as:
1) reporting the contributing skill, from the skill gains (if anyone is actively skilling any of the missing professions, it should be piece of cake)
2) number crunching 3-4 data sets (very easy if step 1 is done correctly)

Yes, i know how it works... the problem is that i am particularly interested in the breakdown of the two new mining professions.
(which cannot be skilled yet, but they should even be easier to find out (with enough datasets): the main skill will be 1 for everyone, so one contribution percentage less that needs to be determined.

There's some info on Technology Investigator in Jimmy's thread, most significantly this post which appears to solve it (though I wasn't able to confirm Robotology and Scientist):

v0.42

Changes to scan correctly the space related skills, which were renamed in the last VU.

Thanks for this scanner!

It really helps me keep track of my slow gains in skills etc, but when I can collect my numbers and make the graphs show the gains to me it really keeps up the motivation! :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

v0.43

I have added a small feature requested by some players. The scanner now shows your skills "raw" value. This value is shown, similarly to the TT value, and net value:
- current raw value per-skill
- total raw value for your avatar
- increments in raw value per run...

The raw value is calculated as the TT value * skill price, and represents how much it would've cost you to get to your current skill value if you would've bought your skills and chipped them in.

Probably the most interesting value is the incremental gain: after a certain run of say 2k peds spent, you may have gained a total net value of 50 peds (meaning that if you were to chip out the gained skills in that run, you would gain a net value of 50 peds), but maybe your raw gain would be in the order of 200 peds (that's the cost of buying in the market the skills you have gained in that run).

So, I hope you find it useful (or at least, yet another curiosity... :p)

Looks like this latest version will not run with JRE 1.6 any more, might be something you'll want to fix. Had to install jre 1.7, and I must say it performs much better than it used to :D

Also, I've got a total raw value of 115200 PED, woot go me!

But on the other hand, already spotted a few bugs with sorting the lists in the progress tab, probably has something to do with you adding another column.

ok, i'll look into it... i did install java 7 recently in my main box so that's what i used for testing. i found some weird things in java 7, btw, so i hope i can come up with a single version running in both java 6 and 7. otherwise, i'll release just a single version for java 7.

thanks for reporting it. this should be quite trivial to fix it... i'll have a look at it tomorrow.

v0.44

hopefully, it fixes both bugs described earlier (it should work with Java 6, and the column sorting in the progression tab should work ok).

Awesome new feature! Love it! :yay:
