We saw similar stories many times.
1. Someone was excited by newly purchased item and wanted to show it to a 'friend'. Accidentally traded it.
2. Other guy wanted to test decay on an item. Accidentally TTed it.
3. Or very recently helaer shows FAP's decay after healing job and accidentally trades it.

Many if not most of those ended up with item being stolen and refused to trade back.

Then we got Item Protection on most (not all!) items.
Problem: in order to do above (well apart of 1.) you still need to disable Item Protection.
Another problem: not averybody know about it, mostly new players but even old players (especially ones coming back from inactivity).

Solution is very simple:
Move conditional checking if Item Protection is enabled.
Right now we can't move protected item to Trade Terminal or Trade window as that check is on move action.
Instead change it to Accept action.
That way we can still show item, check decay, but when accidentally we click Accept button we get message saying "You cannot trade protected item!"

One step further, would be to set Item Protection for every item we buy. Maybe at least an option to enable it, with deafaulting to true.
That way new players who are not aware about protection are somehow safer.

think i could agree with this better safe than sry since this stuff happen far to often

they really should make you confirm twice what your agreeing to trade....oh wait nevermind
agreed there r to many ppl always in a rush which is why dumb stuff happens when listing in AH aswell ><

This would be a simple implementation IF Mindark had real programmers...

As an example we have fake pvp lootable warning in the middle of the screen for what? 10 years? :duh:

Just have the hunter scan the healer for decay. Stop putting it in the trade window.

Job done.

Don't need to get complicated with stuff.

It still won't work. Only 2 things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity.

You can only help fixing human error so much, should you add 55 warnings? Someone in rush will click trough all 55 of them and won't read the amount they bid on the item, and come back and say we need 56 warnings because i accidentaly bid too much.

I really cant feel sorry for people who fat fingered their belongings to another person.

But please do name and shame the people who don't return the items. Everyone should know not to engage with them anymore, period. The sad thing is that each and every incident like this gets forgotten in a weeks time.

Scanning costs so the OP's idea is good.
