You should improve your anti-spam stuff (if you have any) because it's ridiculous at this point. Setup a captcha for new accounts until they have posted X number of times, or put their messages on the moderation queue. It's really simple, honestly.

By the way, we have spam on profile posts too. Go to What's New > Profile Posts and you'll see.

Also, to my fellow forum users: Please stop replying to spam, all you do is push their threads up. Click the Report button and be done with it.

Toodaloo!

Ignore button works well with this forum.

Also use the ignore function and you won't see any threads

Yea it’s even getting weird political spam which if that sets hold will never stop, because unlike commercial spam they don’t care about the metrics or click rate.

No, I don’t want CBD gummies. And I don’t care how fast I can lose weight. Go away.

That was mail received in Tribal Wars. It was like 15 pages long.

The increasing number of spam here is ... uhm ... annoying. Two more today (at least those I saw).

I'm using the latest post section to see what's new, well ...

Isn’t there a simple plugin to solve this by now? It’s 2023. Or is this forum just that out of date? Maybe a new engine for the forum to go with the new game engine?

I find it rather enlightening to learn which countries are most often targeted for the marketing of escort services and virility enhancers.

I've read through some of them and the ads are actually kind of hilarious. No; not good. But at least you can get a laugh out of it

There are multiple systems in place on PCF to prevent spam, and I am actively researching better solutions.

99% of would-be spam bots are caught before they are ever able to post anything.
Unfortunately, fighting spam is a never-ending battle, with each side (spam and spam-prevention) temporarily gaining the advantage for periods of time.
Recent advances in AI have resulted in an escalation of this endless struggle (for example, advances in image processing and recognition reducing the effectiveness of CAPTCHAs), resulting in more spam getting through.

All that being said, PCF is relatively spam-free compared to most internet forums, and the little that gets through is quickly dealt with.

Why don't you make it so first posts (I mean the first post a new account makes) require moderator validation before going public?

Mods have to delete them later anyway, so why not be proactive.

Maybe new users shouldn't be allowed to post links in their first five posts?

711, I will echo what others have mentioned, but is it possible to limit posting ability of new accounts? I'm sure that's also being balanced with wanting to be able to let newbies ask for help, which would make something like "You need to have at least 5 replies before being able to post a thread." a bit harder. Still, I'd hope there would be some way to structure things in a similar vein that doesn't burden the new posters much.

The anti-spam measures recently implemented seem to have done a pretty good job of preventing many of the spam messages that were getting through.

Of course, fighting spam is a never-ending battle, so I will continue to research more effective options.
