News: Technical Showcase of Imported Worlds in Unreal Engine

UE5 will allow MA to update the game with new content more hasslefree and with less bugs. It will be easier for them to deliver updates since everything will be in a modern engine. In the end this means more content for us and hopefully better quality content as well with little to no bugs.
That's the theory and wishful thinking.
Reality might be different. Especially the "little to no bugs" part.
Time will verify that.

Im surprised how similar the graphics look. They hid the UI because it likely hasn't changed since the last time they showcased it and everyone hated it. It looks like very little has been done. Hopefully I am wrong and they are keeping the cards close to the vest.

A lot will still be done with C++ and not that much with Blueprint, so risk is still there to doing wrong
in coding. :p But I have asked the guru see if I can get some info how it really is to work in UE.

Have you been sleeping last years? ;) On and on they have mentioned they work on both engines so ofc it will look
similar even though shaders probably have to be unique for each engine but still have similar look .

blueprint system allows for simple tasks like add health, take damage, etc... but id assume the integration of the loot system and other stuff to work alongside it will be custom code and mix of blueprints which is visual coding in a sense

Very few pro developers use Blueprint other than to concepts, test things and so on. Most still use C++.

This one is quite ok to see what Blueprint vs C++ is good for. :)

The biggest risk seems to be the move from DX11 to DX12, since it opened up graphics to a whole new level,
where programmers have a lot more possibilities but also way higher responsibilty, things can go bad really fast
and create really big problems.

Another problem are the amount of programmers that never really understood or understand what happens inside
the engine when it comes to UEs all inovatie techniques, and therefor can't create effective graphics.
Thos who do understand can create magic the rest will create sloppy games where gamers gets upset with
halfdone games.

Welldone, i like it

meh... was hoping for better grafics/changes tho

I wish the people in this community has seen any game or demo from the last decade. They wouldn't be doing any praise right now lol.

I mean this is like 1 person did this a year and a half ago

The sky is the limit with UE5 with how easy and simplistic it is to build nice designed/randomized areas.
I mean just look at these.. PLEASE MINDARK, GO ABOVE AND BEYOND AND TRULY SHOW US WHAT UNREAL ENGINE 5 CAN DO AND WHAT YOU ALL CAN DO.

The graphics are definitely on point, you can't forget how bad youtube compression is. You lose detail in the video upload alone. Can't think how many games I've watched trailers on to be surprised when I play the real thing on console to see the graphics were better than expected.

The benefits of the unreal engine launch may not immediately be apparent but one of the most striking are features such as:
-nanite
-Lumen lighting technologies
-more realistic avatars and animations
-much easier to create cutscenes giving a much higher end and modern feel to the game.
Lighting alone can make all the difference in the world, then we have the ease of development which means beyond the initial launch it will be easier than ever for mindark to upgrade the game we love, new higher quality assets, new worlds, events and instances.
The sky is the limit really.

The main thing is getting the base game moved over and launched and really that starts the new beginning to the game and its all up from there. Remember it's all being ported over from the current game, some of the biggest changes are likely only to happen after launch.

To me, looking fantastic. So hyped for this! Can't wait to be playing in the new engine.
I wonder just how close we are to the first release we can go and play in?

This is the engine entropia deserves, very exciting times. Have watched the trailer half a dozen times already. Moarrrr....I want more!!

Unreal Engine 5 has been used on so many pre-alpha hype new game scams that i would remain skeptical.

Either it's been shameless cashgrabs or the devs have always biten more then they can chew skill wise.

I am not saying that is case here, i for one hope for the best but tech demo is still tech demo and if somebody can put that together it dosn't mean they can build up entire game or deliver all the promises.

Edit:

I am glad MA decided to share. 👍

Dont waste this potential! 👍

I agree, it looks stunning.

Better that they take their time and do it properly than releasing it too early.

Hopefully they will focus on quality over quantity, they are definitely capable of it as shown by the RDI Labs. Calypso has far too much landmass with uneventful content.

If all they did was import assets and/or remaster them/recolor, then the UI they did was what they did in UE5 and pushed it back to the current engine (same with the other hubs).

Typically that's all you're going to get when you move platforms. It is a cost-intensive task and companies don't take the time to rewrite engines or upheave frameworks. They just want an as-is import.

(Retired IT exec) I remember all the VB6 to .NET conversion projects that companies did...... *war time flashbacks*

Could we see such features in future entropia unreal?

-Trading cards based on mobs with a card game avatars can play at table tops in service centres? Most of my favorite RPGs have their own internal card games!
-In game cutscenes for mainline story missions.
-real-time random area missions, local creature outbreaks, robot incursions, kidnappings of NPCs where you have to go on a rescue mission, theft of x by a certain creature whete you have to go kill some to find and kill the creature to steal it back. Things like that.

You ge the idea, lots of real time stuff like this that can make the world feel alive and distract you off the beaten path or the plan you were already undertaking.

If they gonna do stunning graphics they need to understand the engine to 100%, sadly there seems to be a lot of developers who
don't and can't handle Lumen, nanites and so on.

The textures in that video did not look much different to the current engine. So either it was recorded in low quality or YouTube compressed it so badly that you could not see the better quality. But there was a scene when you saw the avatars foot on the ground it looked so flat and looked like it was shot in the current engine and not UE5.

With that all said I said it from the start that the actual migration is easy to do when it comes to migrating all the actual world assets/textures. What will take the time is actually redoing all the textures themselves etc.

Yes UE5 has textures and vegetation already in. So they can use those which obviously will be upto date in terms of detailing and richness.

What will also take the time is the actual coding if they have to fully redo all the coding for all the systems.

The last thing I want to say is this, the fact is many players who play EU right now still play on very very old machines, I got no idea why they do when they spend thousands in EU but still play on machines that are 10+ years old it actually boggles my mind really that they are complaining that they will not be able to play but yet they must have money if they are spending it in EU.

People need to understand a engine upgrade will usually require players to upgrade or buy a new PC if they want to continue to play the games they love. Otherwise you will not be able to.

Yes they might make it possible to play on old computers but it will be a lot worse for them and it will not be smooth and they will have to be basically in some sort of safe mode. That is if MA add a safe mode in the new client to enable before launching the game to play it. But my take is even a safe mode will struggle for those on really old computers.

So if you want to be able to play and you have no cash to buy a new PC then I would recommend selling some gear in game and withdrawing to buy a new PC so you will be ready.

That being said, I doubt the beta UE5 will be ready by the end of this year. But we never know, they like to surprise us without even doing any news releases to keep us all in the loop. That is how MA has always done it. They will never change.

I wonder with the new engine if it will be possible to travel in the spacecraft directly through to the planet below, rather than the current two stage system.

Really good looking video, IMO. It seems promising to port EU quickly and UE5 is just around the corner. Hopefully they put in a permanent team to tackle the little bugs. PLEASE!!

Visually superb. MA are you able to provide a laptop spec, required to run the unreal engine?

It almost feels like the old days, buying new kit, to run the updated game. Msybe that's a good sign. 🤣

"Since MindArk has opted for a soft launch instead of a hard launch, we believe the timeline has been extended compared to what was communicated earlier. Our best guess is that we will see a full release in H2 2025 at the earliest."

After working on transitioning to UE5 for 3-4 years, yall are happy with that video?
25% of that if not more is spent showcasing the same 7 sets of armor they already visually updated last year, but this time with the running animation.
Wouldn't you want to showcase something more attention grabbing than a dude running around in armor?
Didn't see a single combat sequence except maybe the mob aggroing at the end which worries me regarding what's actually been developed and incorporated.

It's cool to see a UE5 video but what they opted to include (if even a person worked on this) is seriously questionable.
Don't doubt that UE5 is coming, especially after the epic games announcement, just skeptical around when and the lack of a mention at a time frame or road map does not help.

Hope to see more

I love how we've got a dedicated Unreal forum section caked with dust and this thing is posted here lol

Looks nice though... awaiting more details in the future.
