The n00bie guide to sweat gathering

Hi folks and welcome to the guide on sweat gathering.

By no means take my advice as a manifesto that should be followed at all times by everybody, as my joining PE only took place some 3 weeks ago or so. The general idea is to provide some starting tips to the only free PEDs you'll receive in the game.

The basic ideas about sweating:

ANY creature (those red dots on your radar you run into, except for the mutants or robots) will give you sweat provided that the MOB needs to be in the second circle on your radar. If they are any further away than that, you simply cannot milk them.

To make it more difficult, you first have to start concentrating, before you can start sweating a MOB. In other words, you need total peace and inside tranquillity before actually collecting sweat will be succesfull. This means that if you move, your concentration will be broken, and you will be unable to aquire any sweat whatsoever. If you get hit by the MOB, concentration will fail. If you accidently click on another player rather than on the MOB, sweat collection will fail.

Now let's start off by the most basic piece of information: Where to gather sweat.

1. Where to gather sweat?

Well, you can gather sweat whereever you want. Should you go at this alone, chances are very high that before you finish concentrating, the MOB will hit you, thus causing you to fail the sweat gathering. While this might be nice for getting additional other skills, this guide is meant to show you how to successfully gather sweat, so let's disregard other skill improvements.

The very best place to gather sweat is Camp Phoenix (generally known as 'The sweat gathering point'). The reasons for this are very simple. It's a relatively secure place where a lot of new people to the game will flock to in order to gather sweat.

While this at times does create extra overhead on the servers (in the form of lag, caused by a great amount of people being online), it is an awesome site for gathering. The reason for this is very simple. If you go out gathering sweat alone, you will often find your concentration will be broken due to being hit. Ergo: If there are more people who might be targetted by a MOB, your chances are better of succesfully concentrating and milking. This bring us right to question number 2.

2. What do I do when I am being attacked by a MOB while trying to gather sweat?

There will be a time when you are trying to gather sweat within a great flock of people, and the MOB will single you out as it's dinner. While this might seem like a horrible future, the reality is not that bad at all. If you die, you revive automatically, and MindArk (the creators of the game) have been kind enough to not charge you for being revived.

In other words: You lose nothing by dying. In fact, you GAIN from dying. If you were to stand deadstill in front of a MOB, without doing anything (running, shooting, etc) you still receive skills. Possible skills you can gain include but are not limited to: Combat reflexes , Intelligence, Courage, Evade. If you decide to start healing yourself with a Fast Aid Pack, you might also gain some healing skills.

The important part here is that when you are under attack, preferably, you do nothing whatsoever. When there's a crowd sweating a MOB, everyone will take a shot in the face once in a while. Stand proud and tall, and know your peers will share your thrill of looking death in the face while providing you with some easy sweat and/or skills.

3. I'm afraid to die. Death hurts.

A lot of people new to the game seem to think it's a splendid idea to run back towards the area of the playing-field where the huge gun-turrets blast any MOB that dares to come too close into Goulash. While this might be satisfying to watch, there really is no point in this. First of all, any dying MOB that people are trying to aquire sweat from will not yield anything. Second of all, some person probably put a LOT of effort into bringing over that Atrox/Amtrac etc. Do not discourage them from doing it again by just having the turrets blast the MOB into oblivion. Honour their effort by keeping it alive as long as possible.

Thirdly, there might be a player currently trying to save your backside by blasting the MOB (You WERE running in a straight line to offer him a better chance to hit, right?). If that is the case, running a MOB into the turret-zone will have wasted most of that person's effort. They spent a bunch of quid on a MOB, only to find out it got hosed down, and is no longer their loot.

4. I'm well on my way to sweating, but such-and-such keeps killing MOBs.

This is a sensitive matter. Camp Phoenix in particular has an appeal to wankers who want to show their leetness by offing any MOB in sight (yes, GhosTrideR, this is about you, among other people). Common courtesy is that while a MOB is able to provide sweat, you do NOT try to kill it. New people to the game are trying to up their skills, and dead creatures do NOT yield any sweat.

Please respect new people; you were once a newbie too. If you feel the desire to go out hunting, do not do so in the close proximity of Camp Phoenix. There is a spaceship south-west of there where you can hunt without disturbing the people who want to make a few free PECs by gathering.

When you notice a MOB will not yield any more sweat (you will see a message about this), please inform other players of this, before you start blasting away at the MOB, Nothing is more frustrating than being in the middle of trying to gather sweat than to see the message that dead creatures will not provide any sweat.

5. Which skills will I gain from sweat gathering?

This is fairly simple. The skills included are:

- Concentration
- Sweat Gathering
- Evade
- Courage
- Intelligence

This is by no means a complete list, but is based on my experience. Should you find additional skills, please let me know so this guide can be altered to reflect your findings.

6. How much is sweat actually worth?

Easy. The Trade Terminal value for sweat is nada, zilch, nothing. So don't sell it there; instead, sell it to other players. From the information I have, sweat usually sells for anything between 2.30 PEC and 2.60 PEC. I do believe the price might be rising though. Anything less than that, and you'd probably be better off hanging on to it, unless you want to offer your 10,000 sweat in one big bulk sale.

7. Is gathering sweat the only way to not have to deposit money?

Not really. If you do not want to invest anything, gather sweat till you literally are bored to tears. And then gather some more sweat. While this will give you a good idea about the value of the PED, you probably ARE better off investing some dineros to get yourself some half-decent noobie-equipment.

Some other ways to make some bucks are gathering dung (Something that I have yet failed to do, despite running around quite a lot), or head over to the oil rig (South-east on the map, in an unsafe zone) and try to grab some barrels of free oil before you got blasted to shreds.

8. Why are other people constantly stepping in front of me? It makes me fail sweating.

What a lot of people do not realise is that when they stand directly in front of you, your gathering will fail. It's common courtesy not to step in front of another avatar. Besides, you can gather from quite some distance away, so flocking directly around a MOB is not in your best interest, really.

9. Won't MOBs attacking me degrade my armour?

Yes, they will. Personally, I like to gather in plain clothes, to avoid repair costs.

Cool guide - this should take some of the mysteries out of it for both new and old players :)

You may want t change PED to PEC in you valuation of sweat :tongue2:

I particularly enjoyed your section 4 - It made me giggle

Have some rep!

The Counsellor

:D Excellent Advice - Rep added!

Done :) Thanks for pointing that out to me... I also added another little bit...

Cheers.

I realy enjoyed the part about Ghostrider, I will lol him later :D

Thx for doing this! :girl:
Nice guide ViagaraFalls...

oh, and nice name too

cool guide although I got a couple more errors to point out ...

You say you can sweat ANY mob... not so. Mutants and Bots cannot be sweated, only animals can be sweated ;)

also you say that gathering sweat is the only way to get money in game for free.. nope. You can also get money for free by going to the oil rig and grabbing some oil .. OR gathering shit :D

anyway, like I said... apart from these, very cool guide

repped. a little long winded, but informative nonetheless.

thanks for sharing, maybe this is worth a sticky?

Perhaps explain wich mobs are mutants?
I bet lot's of newbies don't know ;)
Other than that, excelent guide :)

Feffoids
Biffoids
Maffoids
Calamusoids
Umbranoids
Molisks (not sure about this)

maybe other i havent listed too..

Gruye, Molisks are animals... how can you even think about calling them mutants ... they're so CUTE! :(

Anyways :tongue2: yeah Gruye thanks for listing them.. saves me time :silly2:

i would have classed molisks as mutants too. they look like they wear armor to me. Do any other mobs have "hunters"? Argos, and i would class them as mutants too

well thing is.. you can gather sweat from Molisks. And because mutants and robots cant be sweated then :dunno:

fair play then, didn't know that. you can spank me when you see me

Only a couple things that no-one else has mentioned...

The oil rig is South-East, Not South-West.

And someone should post the coordinates to Camp Pheonix.

I believe they are 12500 x 9750... That could be wrong as I am doing this post away from my play-time computer and pulling from memory.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

You should put the actual coordinates in the guide.

As far as people shooting the mobs... You have to realize that Camp Pheonix is not designated to be a sweat area only for newbies. But most of us understand that they need a start also.

Some people kill off the sweat mobs because they have a vested interest in driving up the sweat price. For instance, they may be trying to sell 10K of Mind Essence on the auction and want a premium for it too. Creating chaos for the sweat newbies, drives up the price on the available sweat pool.

There are a lot of People that seem to get off on creating problems for other people. And there are those people that are trying to get the sweaters to just deposit something and start playing the game as it should be.

I don't advocate the activity, mostly because I am a mentor to 16 people. Most are still dependant on sweat for their ammo. And I own 0 ammount of Essence.

Tantrum, where in this thread does it say the rig is south west?

My guide... I keep messing up east and west :) Will change it as soon as I finish this reply.

Thanks, Tantrum. I deliberately left out the coordinates, by the way. That way the new player either needs to actually ask, or be interested enough to look up a map... If, however, people feel it's neccessary info, I'll be more than happy to add the guide with the proper coordinates.

Cheers.

Ohhh I see. sorry, just me being a dunce then

I vote this should be stickied also... excellent reference for newcomers :)

Nice guide man!

I'm real newbie in PE, just downloaded a client and made myself a charecter. :)

This guide will definately help me get started because at this point, I'm thinking not to put real money to this game and try if I can manage...

What I've been reading from the website and browsing these forums, this looks like a great game and it seems like there is lots of things to besides just killing anything that moves like in most MMORPGs so I can't wait to start playing and get a hang of it.

just South of Camp Pheonix

and just north of the ruins of Zychion is another great place to sweat.

There are all these battle remains and trenches which are great for trapping Mobs Plus If your like me and havent gotten a weapon you can find plenty of people willing to put the mob out of its misery once you have gotten all the sweat out.

Just remember to take your turn and bring the Mob to the group once and a while....

I and my sister sometimes do "sweat safari's" near Port Atlantis as do many other players from time to time ( skilling first aid and evade in the ring is slower for some reason.. ), so you might want to include skillers as alternative way of sweating to "noob group" sweating..

It's also common courtesy to let the person who brings a mob and takes the hits kill it.. i get sick and tired of noobs who whip out their axe and try to kill the mob that's attacking me as soon as someone says it's dry...

you might also want to include what it actually says when a mob is dry.. ( "you may not aquire further sweat from this creature" ), since i also get sick of noobs telling me it's dry after 3 or 4 unsucsessfull sweating attempts..

Awsome guide ViagraFalls. Reps added.
If only those who breake the unwritten rules would read this. They should display a shorter version, on the screen every time you tp to Phoenix :D

I vote this should be stickied.

Actually since its out in the open, the place mentioned by requiemau is far better than phoenix. To say the least phoenix sucks. I honestly feel sorry for the noobs who sweat from places like that. Only prob is, it is crowded already hopefully not so many noobs read these pages, but if they do they should come just north of Zychion or run south east of phoenix if i remember correctly.
And for the sake of god, we dont need any mid level players comming there hunting or "helping", its all about the sweating :wise:

Cool, thread copied to the "Sticky" forum and Bonus Rep and EFD added to your account ;)

Thanks for a nice guide. :)

err... I hunt there. Plenty of Feffoids and Corns. Had a couple of globals and lots of nice minis there even a nice armour drop.

I dont kill sweaters mobs, but it really annoys me when they start screeching at me for tagging one that they are nowhere near. I mean FFS you cant even sweat a Feff

Trapping isnt allowed nowadays anyway I believe?

Also, what's the problem with hunters? A mob will respawn in a couple of minutes.. it takes bloody ages to sweat a Corn... by the time your Corn is dry I'll have killed tonnes of mobs (respawns too)

Anyone else see a problem with hunters here? :dunno:

I dont know if this should be in your guide or not, but if someone who uses mind force gives you concentration charges, you can continue to sweat the mob while being attacked. This will last until the charges are gone, or you die.

Thanks
Az

I didnt think of hunters that much, now and then some guy with a nice gun comes by and kills all the animals. but mid level players that comes to the sweating area dragging on 2-3 atrox young and god knows what else.

The creatures kills all the n00bs sweating quite fast, and when they come to the revive station 2 glory-heads blocks the door dancing.
Great fun for them of course. But then they leave, and we cant kill the animals, and trapping them is quite difficult with only one atrox. When theres 3 atrox around + 6-8 other creatures that can take you down fast as sh!t its useless.
The n00bs are doomed :lam:
Occured tonight, so quite used to it.
Thats why i dont want mid-skilled ppl there. They were harassed by Ubers probably, so now they gonna take it out on the new guys, quite natural.

And when it comes to trapping i dont think most n00bs care, its like dying, what do noobs got to lose anyways?
