Many people use the phrase "somebody should do something" when discussing issues or problems. It is the rare few who realise that, all too often, it falls to them to be that somebody.
The Church of Lootius is preparing a series of events, tailored to the new player experience, that will afford all upstanding Entropians many opportunities to be somebody. We have already started the ball rolling with the "Open Letter" post, which has received a great deal of positive response, and fairly measured and insightful opinions in the less positive responses. Thank you to all who contributed.
That thread was essentially the "what" part of the equation, and now we would like to detail the "how".
Starting with "Steam Day" - 22 July,
The official launch date for EU on Steam has been unilaterally declared by The Church as "Steam Day", and shall be observed as an universal holiday.
The Church will be offering a "Magical Mystery Tour" for new arrivals, that will introduce them to various points of interest. The tour will comprise elements of a classic TP run (thank you Dibbler), some joyriding in an assortment of vehicles, and, with any luck and cooperation, a wormhole to a mystery destination that will expose them to more robust understanding of Entropian life in a controlled manner.
Our biggest hurdle, as always, is the availability of willing hands on deck. We are reaching out to contacts in various societies, as well as to MA themselves, for some specialised assistance, and based on responses thus far, we're confident we'll have the support we need there.
What we still need, is assistance at a basic "be there" level from any player who is willing to spend some time wrangling a team, or flying a chopper or any of the other mundane things that can make this effort work. We all know that, even with a group of salty veterans, it can be tricky to co-ordinate, and will be extra tricky with raw noobs, so we will need people. The Church encourages all Entropians to take a break from their regular activities and engage with new arrivals that day.
Be the somebody that shares knowledge, advice and guidance to a new arrival.
Then.... THE ONGOING MISSION.
As has been pointed out, we should not rely on a singular burst of engagement to bolster retention, so to that end, there will be a "Welcome Home, Noobs" party hosted at CND on Howling Mine on 26 July. With the assistance of our awesome Space Pilot friends, there wil be planetary pickup and warp to and from HM for newcomers.
How to connect :
There are more events planned, which brings us to EntropiaPlayer.com. This is a new player-driven information hub designed to serve all planets in Entropia, and provide a central repository of information and dialogue. If you are willing to participate in the ongoing initiatives, we ask you to please register on the forum and then visit the calendar, where you will see all planned events, not only for this drive, but also any other player events that members have shared to the calendar. If you run events, add them to the calendar.
We are currently a very small team, and although we are blessed with some very good friends who help at every opportunity, we could use your help as well. Be somebody, write your name in the lore of the universe we all love. Invest now in the future story that starts with "I was there when..."
