Question: Two paths before me...eternal question almost...

Hello there,

Please help with this dilemma that I am facing. I started all this thinking arrogantly that I was going to never deposit, and look at this like some sort of job..blah blah blah. Now I see (after racking up less that 2 PED by sweat gathering) that there are certain benefits to depositing... Only problem that I have, is that for other reasons, I cannot deposit from my personal bank account until I can prove its safety and security by some IG protections....like, I dunno....say a GC.

So here we get down to it...how to unlock the GC goodness to pave the way for depositing?

Not trying to get into a chicken or the egg moment, but which would you recommend that I do first?

1) Deposit $20US on one of those pay as you go cards, so I can buy a GC to deposit from my personal bank account?

2) Sweat Gather up the 200 PED necessary to buy the GC from IG terminals, so that I can then deposit safely from my personal bank account?

3) Other? Please specify.

The Gold Card isn't required for depositing.

I'd probably deposit the $20, get the gold card, then after activation make a bigger deposit.

Tough one that...

You do get a free Gold Card once you've depositted 5000 ped. That's a total of 5000 ped, not 5k all in one go.

Now it sounds like I'm saying, "Go ahead, deposit up to 5000 peds and don't worry about it". I am definitely NOT saying that...

A Gold Card is Absolutely the best investment you will EVER make within EU, as it secures everything you have tied up in your EU account...

I was lucky, I waited quite a while before getting mine, but never got hacked. Actually I spent 200 ped on one a few weeks before the offer appeared. Typical.

What you need to do is balance the amount of peds you have tied up in your Avatar against the cost of the card. How much would you lose if you got hacked? Remember to count all your skills too, cos these hackers can clean you out...

If you don't think you have much worth stealing, hold out for the free one.

But if you have ANYTHING you'd prefer to keep, get a Gold Card. Today.

So, after much waffle, I answer your question thusly:

I'd say deposit $40 with the payasyougo card of which you speak, buy a GC with half, and toys with the rest...

There is no connection between a gold card and your bank account. I think you must have misunderstood what a gold card does. It's to stop hackers from logging in to EU with your avatar, not to protect your real-life bank account.

Do you have a credit card, that is what I use. It is much easier to me but that is just me. And do get the GC ASAP just in case.

I was assuming if they could hack your account, then they could get your bank information and CC number from your account profile and such...if this is not the way this works, then all the better as that clears up a lot of questions I have had.

Honestly the credit or bank info has been secure enough and for enough of us here for a long time. The gold card protects all the ingame stuff. But your wife may be thinking it`s risky giving out the credit information. If you plan on putting in a few bucks and sticking around a while then you should definitely get a gold card either way. Twenty here twenty there. Months down the road you won`t miss it. Personally I have always maintained a seperate account for all online dealings.

about the cc and internet. Have u a direct method to look in real time at your cc use? i mean have you the possibility to check all our operations by internet? or by an ATM? if yes u have np. If someone steal your credit card or your code you can just call the police, block the credit card, call the cc assistance and ...in a while.... u will have your money back. Without this no one will use the cc in shop, internet etcetc. (ps in italy some nice bank send you a text message to your cell phone..... u pay for this oc, but is a good method to know exactly what your cc is doing).
About the game. I play since 3 years and are months and months that i had the gc.... i just activated it some weeks ago. U know i have some to lose if someone steal items and skills from my avatar. Moreover look like if someone use your accont will be very difficult persuade MA to give you back your items. So better use the gc...... if u have some to loose.

When you deposit from ingame, you choose which registered credit/debit card you want to use, then type in the amount in peds upto a set limit. This limit is initially small (500ped i think) untill you have entered a confirmation code which will show up on your bank statement, then the limit is increased to 30k (?).

After entering the ped amount you will be asked for the cards CCV code (the last 3 digits on the signature strip on the back). So only by knowing what numbers are printed on the back of your card could another person deposit money into your theoretically hacked account and transfer it to another avatar.

I would register a card, depo enough for the gold card & some playing money & wait for the gold card before fully activating the bank card's depo limit.

Unless you are planning to deposit more than 1000 ped per month (current limit) you can skip activating the credit card. I have chosen to do that. This has the additional benefit of protecting my money from the biggest liability of all ..... myself.

For the extra paranoid:
If you are unsure if your pc is properly protected from keyloggers etc. you can also download a cd with a "live" linux version. Then you will boot to a clean state each time and can deposit through the entropia website without fear.

Unless there's an internet connection in the doghouse, it's just not a good idea to tell one's wife to chill out. But establishing a spending limit is a good idea. As Borealis mentioned, it's sometimes necessary to protect your money from yourself. You must remember the game has addictive elements like any casino does. It's part of the fun!

After you've registered your card, your card number etc will be partially hidden in the deposit section (and in the in-game deposit window). A hacker could get 4 numbers of your card only (I think, something like that anyway). You always need to input the CVV code separately, every time you depo, so that prevents someone who has hacked your account from depositing using your card and then offloading the PEDs to another avatar.

I've never heard of anyone's card details being compromised in EU. If you are OK with ordering on Amazon etc, EU is no different, so don't worry about it

Well, here is an update.

I went out and got one of those Visa gift cards, and deposited enough to get a GC that way, and I have also deposited some fun money from my debit card, as the communities assurances have eased my fears on this.

Yeah! So I actually have some equipment now! Saaaweeet!

Anyhow, now that I have garnered the advice of the community, I find myself in an embarassing situation.

I realize that I forgot to set an end date for the poll.
