:yay:

I'm getting busy trying to organise venues and such, but as Woodger indicated I think it'll mainly be about hanging out in pubs

I'm trying to keep everything based in the city centre so that travel arrangements can be kept simple.

I hope we're going to get a good crowd for this :D

Sounds good guys :yay:

And yeah, keep things simple. As long as there is pubs and Beer, the rest seems to take care of itself :silly2:

And keeping everything kinda in one place makes it easier as well, though mad taxi trips around the countryside, as we had in Liverpool certainly adds to the experience LOL :)

RC and I are having a look at the calendar and will hopefully work a plan :yay:

I'll try and bring my but into leeds, dont live that far away so should be cool :)

there is a small chance me and mrs numptey could make an appearance even if it is just taking mini nump out for a looksie :D so its a maybe attending from us depending on work if i still am....

cool, see if we cant get a few off the maybes into the confirmed list :)

Travel

Travel to Leeds is very easy! There is a major train station and a coach station in the city centre, Leeds Bradford Airport is a few miles out of town, and the city is easily accessible by motorway.

A1(M) from the North

  • A1(M) from the North
  • M1 from the South (Junction 43 for city centre?)
  • M62/M621 from the West
  • M62 from the East

Not being a driver I’m not sure about the best places to come off the motorway, but they are well sign-posted so I’m sure you’ll be fine. Maybe someone else can provide more info :)

Accommodation

There are many hotels in Leeds. I’ve put together a selection below to suit various budgets. All of these are in or very close to the city centre. The prices I’ve quoted are mostly minimum prices for a single room for Saturday 29th November, just as a guideline.

There are many others which I’m sure you can find if you need to. If you want something out of town then I’d recommend looking at Cardigan Road in Headingley. There are a number of small independent places there: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=leeds+hotels+cardigan+road&meta=

Etap, Crown Point Road

nuuuhuuuhuuuuu, I am most likely working that weekend ='( I'm down for overtime in MRI >.<; I need the money to pay for my ES400 anyhow >.>;

Guys I hope this rocks cos I definitely wanna be in for a meet in 2009, preferably before we defend the WoF title ^o^/

MUST see pics here after also, and stories :O

Is that a strictly British meet up btw ?!
I might have a few days off end of November and since the x-mas wages is flowing in also some money to take trip off the "continent".
Could end up as a "last minute surprise" but really got too many "maybes" until the end of November.

Event is open to anyone from anywhere not just UK ;) would be awesome if you could make it :)

Would be nice to see the exact adresses you plan to go in last few days before the meet up :D
I few "highly unsure" like me might show up in the last minute :D

WoenK, of course you are very welcome to come :) It's a UK meet only in the sense that it'll be happening in the UK, it's not just for British players!

When I've worked out more details of what we'll be doing I'll post full info on everything here with venue addresses etc, hopefully that will be in the next few days.

no in the uk but i wish you all a good time :D

Consider this an urgent request for free beer...I demand free beer.

At a pinch, I will accept free spirits (or if you are really posh, free wine).

The hippie alliance of one has spoken...

...free everything!

((for me :yay:))

just to let u know...stinky and i can go on ur confirmed list! :yay:

it will be great to meet like minded eu addicts....

I doubt I will be able to make this now :S I'll be away on that weekend :(

Wish you all the best!

Rip

Looking for tickets right now :)

Not to many flights to leeds bradford i fear:(

Might just have to go to london and grab on of those horrible english trains.. Which will probably take a couple hours to get up to leeds?

Try get a flight to Manchester instead ;) It's much closer to Leeds than London, I'm sure oleg or myself can always meet ya at Leeds train station too :)

Here's also a few other useful links for those not familiar with the city:

Pubs & Bars in Leeds
Nightclubs in Leeds
Restaurants in Leeds
Hotels in Leeds
Transport in Leeds

Transport in Leeds said:
Leeds City Station is one of the biggest in the country with regular trains to a huge range of destinations all over the UK, and it is located in the heart of the city just off City Square.

Although, if you're just visiting the city centre, you might as well walk, as much of Leeds is surprisingly compact with most of the major attractions and shops within walking distance of one another. To orientate yourself, free maps are usually available at the tourist information centre within Leeds City Station. There are also a few street maps dotted around the city and getting around Leeds is fairly easy. There’s always a long queue of taxis outside the station, though on Friday and Saturday nights you’ll have to be prepared to wait. Plenty of cabs can also be found around Assembly Street, or just across the road by the Corn Exchange. At the top end of town there are also usually a handful of taxis waiting on New Briggate or Vicar Lane.

Leeds also has a large modern bus station served by National Express and local bus services, and a zero-fare bus service, known as the FreeCityBus, now runs on a circular route through the centre of the city.

slap me down as a maybe.. though in the end i have no excuse at all not to attend ^^

Ditto. As a local who usually spends most of his weekends in Leeds doing something pretty similar anyway, I guess it'd be a shame not to at least take a peek.

:D

Jet2 - http://www.jet2.com/ - run cheap flights from Amsterdam to Leeds twice daily.

They are a good bet for travelling to Leeds from other European cities too (other destinations include Barcelona, Belfast, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, Nice, Prague, Rome and even New York if anyone wants to make a big trip).

If that fails, as Woodger said above it will be better to fly to Manchester than to London. You can get a train direct from Manchester Airport to Leeds very easily (and the journey is only about 1 hour).

I will probably be staying in a hotel the whole weekend, don't mind sharing with someone but will warn you in advance, I'm OCD with neat and tidyness..
