Greetings Colonists,

Today we want to share with you an update talking about the upcoming changes to the onboarding experience - namely the area currently known as Thule.

All shown images are in-development areas that are subject to change and not finalised.

A New Zone - Welcome to Setesh

Our current starting zone, Thule, physically makes up a very small area that funnels new players through a very linear and closed environment. We want players to feel like they experience the large open world that Entropia really is.

To that end, let us introduce the new starting zone: Setesh. This new area is nearly an entire server area, with different biomes, dynamic events, hunting arenas - and our new starting city hub of Port Cabrakan.

Our core mission chain in Setesh will take new players through the various biomes, locations and points of interest as part of the experience - with smaller side missions and hunting areas for those who wish to spend more time in the area.

When players first touch down, they will be entering Port Cabrakan - our hub for Setesh. Cabrakan has been created to feel fresh, alive and full of character which sets a new standard for how areas in the rest of the game can look in the future.

Existing players will also be able to travel to Setesh anytime without the previous requirements that Thule had.

Enhanced Systems

As part of this release, we have also developed a number of improvements and new capabilities that we will be showcasing in Setesh, with the aim to roll these capabilities out to other areas in the game at a later point.

Living NPCs

One thing that has been lacking from Entropia Universe are living, moving NPCs. With this release we will for the first time have NPCs that traverse the world on their own just like players. They have schedules, behaviours and lives to live. Not only does this make the world feel more alive, but also opens up new possibilities in the future for new kinds of events, missions and interactions.

Dynamic Hand-in Missions

We have also been working hard on our Dynamic Mission System - and with this upcoming release will feature hand-in quests for the first time. This will give players the opportunity to exchange loot from their hunting activities in return for a chance at something more valuable. It is even possible now to chain multiple dynamic hand-in missions together.

A World in Motion

In addition to our moving NPCs, we have also made a number of other graphical improvements:

  • Animated signs and billboards
  • Improved animated objects, such as flags blowing in the wind and functioning elevators
  • Rendered interiors - peer into buildings to see inside

New Everything

This new zone isn’t just a copy and paste of the old Thule items and missions, we’ve fundamentally redesigned the experience from the ground up. Some of the many changes that will be included are listed below:
  • Brand new weapons and weapon varieties
    • New players get their hands on Pistols, Rifles and Swords - gaining more powerful versions as they go through the experience
  • Brand new starter vehicle: The Wasp
  • Starter Armor Set
  • “Micro-Economy” allowing new players to play longer for less
  • New Creatures and Maturities
  • New Dynamic Events for new players to work together on
  • New “Universe Chat” and the ability to opt-out of Rookie and Universe Chat
  • Many Quality of Life changes
  • New mission chain and side missions
  • New tutorials

Putting it all together

This upcoming release and follow-up releases go hand in hand with our other efforts to make starting in Entropia Universe easier and better than ever. Earlier this summer we released the first phase of our new Starter Packs, which was a tremendous success in making Entropia more affordable and rewarding for new players.

This upcoming release will build on that, further improving retention.

Additionally, we have recently and will continue to run frequent and more varied events - incorporating all professions into fun, engaging and interesting events that we hope will not only engage our existing players and give them something to look forward to, but also capture the imagination and excitement of new players too. We don't want events to just be Mayhem - we want something fun to look forward to all the time.

We also have more planned additions to the web shop coming soon, including profession focused Starter Kits, and other items too.

Continuous Improvement

After the initial planned release, we plan to continue fleshing out, patching and improving the experience on Setesh based on various analytics and feedback gathered from players to refine and perfect this new experience. We also plan to release a new and improved version of the character creator and revise the existing newcomer content on Calypso.

As Setesh is also a much larger zone than Thule - it offers the perfect opportunity to flesh out the content available in the area with more missions and activities in future releases.
We will remain committed post-release to build on the work we have done so far.

Wow, keep the infos coming, but consider the lower turnovers when all are here in the forums lol
Straight in with my first worry is lag, which you have not been doing well on lately, as in close to Howling Mine and partly in the mine, plus ARIS from many many accounts. Please consider the speed of much-reduced (minimum settings) and turn evrything right down for those.

Looks cool, but I'm worried about lag. :)

No update on existing defects?

Wow!! Thats incredibly impressive. Sounds fantastic and it looks the part too. New players are but cant say im not excited to get there and explore it myself. Very cool!

Really amazing, I am curious about the new changes.

Looks promising. 🙂

Hope some common bugs get fixed after this one. 👍

Breath of fresh air. Almost makes me forget the recent terrible suggestion about making UL items requiring nanocubes to repair.
Sidenote: Maybe just me but that drone has too small head for its body in a weird way. :p

Will be exciting to see it in action, hopefully without any bugs and crashes.

I like that you guys are working on the player retention from the ground up. It's smart. If you can pull it off to improve it across all levels both short term and longterm, then you just need time and then launch new updates and eventually UE5 to bring even more new players and we're all set.

You guys should really consider adding an ingame poll system where you get a msg notification, you even have the message center for it, just add a poll tab. The poll you choose can ask several questions and u can tick X boxes etc or write custom msg about it etc. It would give you more accurate read since a lot of players who browse this forum don't even play the game.

Can we get some newbie food/beer buffs from Jen's take out? Imagine the immersion. ;)

Credit where its due. It was only an idea and they ran it past us first which is a big win. People make out its such an easy thing to fix an economy.....its clearly not. Its a very delicate thing for sure.

Loving this new MA

Socrates for prez.

Yeah true, though if they implement it... I fear for the future.

This looks beautiful, and you finally did something about rookie chat too, it's not proper moderation, but better than nothing.

The new area better come out soon tho. I've read posts of players on steam complaining that when they first lauch EU they spawn in the middle of the ocean with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Seems that several players have run into that bug.

Great, we need new players and player retention. Hope this helps!

I hope you also do something about mentoring as a profession...

Awesome work Mindark!!

Hmm near end of month or more near mid of month or next week? :D Worth a try.
I'm curious too but if they say the 14th, discover a bug and delay it to 18th then all hell will break loose and people will start panic selling their CLDs. Maybe better that it drops when it drops....

NOW THAT'S ... a noob zone I could hang out in. Can't wait for it to launch 🍻

I think many players will also want to go through the starting chains for beginners with pleasure. Will this opportunity be provided for all players?

Well the drone model I think is not such a good remodel, theres a feeling of nostalgia and value assigned to the old drone model I think, other than that looks awesome :D

Loving the communication lately! Very exciting to see the updates, Good job guys :yay:

Also from me the question: will everybody be able to access all the content?
On the issue of lag, I remember years ago liking the arctic wasteland of the THING, but I had to get through the massive lag of RT's city in each direction.
I would like to try this out, though, so hopefully you have made sure there is a very low lag environment near the access tp and starter point, maybe even with signage of 'laggy ppl this way pls'.
A bit tongue in cheek, will there be a command to follow behind a safe mode npc with your eyes closed (no graphics or just wire mode) to get to a safe fps environment again if 'lost in the lag'?

Damn! You guys are burning the candle at both ends! Keep it going! Find a way to list your stock on the USA exchanges. I’d like to buy in. Not just in game. 😂 Seriously though
