Hi, quick question. What do you think about crafting basic components from straight mined resources? I was wondering if it is a good idea to skill up a little bit in crafting and get rid of big stacks of resources in storage.

Aprieciate for every answer.

Good for skilling and being somewhat self sufficient.

However a big part of the game is selling your MU, this is how you profit and ultimately survive. If you choose to craft with your loot this means you are taking the crafting cycle losses ~5-10% TT and losing the potential MU you would have made from selling your loot.

The caveat, there are some (no not telling ☺️) components that have high daily demand that you can craft profitably at scale if you know what you are doing. Takes a bit of research and time but if you can get good enough you can skill hard and make some peds to keep cycling in other areas.

Generally though you will be paying to skill up to get to areas of the game with less competition where it's easier to profit.

Yeah i would lose some money using my own resources, i was just wondering if it is possible to earn some money back crafting and skill up occasionally

I don't know the crafting market very well but i will take a closer look and do some calculations.

I don't expect to make money or even break even, just an additional activity that can improve my avatar in general.

The more you craft what you want, and not what the market needs, the more you lose. To the point that its more cost efficient to do repair runs / monria daily / or even chipping in. Timing is the key.
Do your research first, and wait for the opportunity you are willing to take.
And, most important, try to be honest with yourself when it comes to the value of your resources. Underpricing them for crafting purposes will become a very harmful habit on the long run.

You have to be VERY deliberate when crafting in Entropia, meaning, you have to craft with purpose, not just willy-nilly, if you want to come out ahead.

And honestly, if you are here to hunt, then just do that, crafting in between won't add anything useful to your avatar, it will just cost you money.

Some ubers craft at night when they are sleeping, but they are doing it VERY deliberately, meaning they did the math and devised a plan which they can fit into their waking hours activity.

Just know what you're getting into and be deliberate about it, if you're going to do it, otherwise you will find yourself with less money afterwards and regret doing it.

I’ll add in that I craft and mine. I almost never mix my mining resources into crafting and keep the accounting separate. If I do, I charge myself whatever MU I would have sold the resources for. If it’s not worth it to craft the item when paying regular MU, I don’t craft it.

Most of the time, it’s not worth it to target mining resources for crafting. I’ll lose ped in a lot of those mining areas. There’s a few it pencils out, but it’s rare. Generally it’s better to just target good MU areas and sell that. Then I buy lower MU resources. When you total everything up, you’ll make more off both professions rather than cannibalizing one to feed the other in many cases.

If you have a bunch of low MU resources, you’re generally going to lose more crafting them into low demand or MU beginner components. You’re competing with everyone else skilling.

Whether you hunt or mine, you always have to sell the loot with MU or you will lose a lot.
Most players don't do the math, so it's better to buy as cheaply as possible to limit your losses.

If you also want to craft, do this via a separate accounting system like exel and buy what you need via chat or auction, which is probably much cheaper than selling it yourself.

A crafter only makes a profit if they can purchase resources cheaply AND by increasing the QR of their BP and skills to unlock the higher levels.

Keep in mind that starting a new profession or new BP will always result in (significant) losses.

Please also bear in mind that the economy is in a very sluggish state and that it is almost impossible to achieve decent sales.

Echo what everyone already said but adding a few caveats. As Ackerz hinted at, there are some exceptions that you can craft with found resources that have high enough MU to offset the double-loss.

But one tip that has been left out is that crafting profit can come not just from the item you craft but from BP drops while crafting. Hint: it also matters where you craft.

Simple example is I will often use nanofood to craft EP1 on Cyrene in the background. EP can be sold for around 104% with right stack size and timing (putting you close to 99% for the crafting side of the run), but more importantly certain Cyrene-specific BPs drop that have good MU and can sometimes put you into the green.

I always wanted to craft my hunting loot - it's been a difficult road but once you hit it it's like boobshakalaka!
