Why do we pay so much for such a small difference?

Looking on the auction at the specs and price of cars (for example) I knocked up this quick comparison:

Valk 1 Valk 3 Brunnhilde
Speed 61.2 68.4 68.4
Hit Points 300 900 1200
Fuel Con .85/km 1.45/km 1.75/km
PRICE 70ped 420ped 850ped

So for 7.2kph more speed, 4x the hit points, nearly twice the fuel consumption and 12 times the price, I get a Brunnhilde instead of a Valk 1?

There is not much more visual bling appeal to the Brunnhilde and for nearly the same specs a Valk 3 will do the same speed and cost less than half as much.

So, unless you are going to go charging around the oil rig, what is the point of paying so much for the Brunnhilde?

You could make these comparisons on guns and mining equipment and the differentials in price are almost exponential in some circumstances. I'm not convinced this is good for the economy, or the game.

That is a question I have had on several items for a long time... I think it comes down to perception and what people think they need...

It's all about some people having more money than they know what to do with it. They don't care how much they're paying, as long as they get the 'best'.

well it`s mostly the pKers who play high prices for the best gear because being just that little bit better/faster/stronger is the difference between profit or defeat there.
The average Joe hunter won`t pay more if he doesn`t get a decent advantage.

If you use unl gear especially, that few dmg/sec over a gun just below it can allow you to kill the same amount of mobs for a cheaper overall cost (on bigger mobs). that little bit of extra range can give you one to two more shot on the mob, meaning the mob gets less of a chance to hit you. Then it comes down to amount in game and how much people are willing to pay.

Why People pay in Reallife 50-100 K $ or a half Million for a car while they could have a used car at 3 K $. Because they have(*) more money than needed and they want to have a bit fun .

Because of speed Limits and laws you will not have much advantage in rl too, only comfort and prestige and a bit fun and twice times or more the fuel usage.

* or only think they have/ can borrow more than they can afford because they are bad in math or simply dont care about their expenditures
