WoF 2010: Team England

To all the WoF England squad:

I'm trying to arrange a practice match for next Sunday, January 24th at 9pm...please register for this in our Private Forum but if you can't make it please still post in that thread saying so.

This Full Squad meeting and practice is happening this evening.

Please meet at Nate's tp at either 8pm or 9pm UK time...someone will be there to team you at either of these times.

Thank you to the guys who turned up for our practice match last night.

Thanks also to those who didn't turn up but let me know beforehand they couldn't make it.

To the rest of our squad, it is very important to have good communications so that we can make the necessary preparations for practices and, very soon, our WoF Matches.

So could you all please keep a close eye on this public thread and our Private Forum (if you've not joined yet go to your Control Panel then click on Group Memberships and apply to join WoF England in the Private Forums near the foot of the forums page).

Please also reply to any pm's I may send you as soon as possible otherwise I just have to guess your intentions and/or availability.

I'll be naming out Main 12 in five days time so if you think you have the skills and gear to make a difference please pm me with your stats as soon as possible.

We also need more support so whatever your skills levels if you're English or a fan of England then please sign up below.

WoF ENGLAND:
A call to arms!

22858-no-surrender.gif

Fellow Men of England...and sadly, at this stage it's looking like for the first time we will have an all-male Main Team representing our great nation...this is your Captain issuing a final Call-to-Arms.

WoF England have a proud history in the WoF and to preserve our magnificent record we need as many of our brave citizens that we can muster.

At present we face going into battle with our least experienced Main 12 ever: although I know for certain they will all equip themselves with dedication, honour and bravery equally I know that our new recruits would happily stand aside to let an experienced uber take their place and help to secure victory.

It is not for me to question the reasons why so many of our top players have not signed up for us this year. I myself nearly did not do so but had a chance of heart when I saw the extent of England's disarray.

It may be in part some kind of contagion effect, whereby when a few players drop out then others lose heart for the good fight.

Or possibly the 'better to travel than arrive' scenario whereby once a goal or summit has been reached there seems to be a subsequent loss of enthusiasm to put all that hard work in again (eg. the USA seemed to dip a little the year after they won the WoF and Romania seems to be suffering this year after winning it last year).

Some have cited MindArk's involvement last year with resulting poor spawns and hanging around helplessly whilst the WoF mobs reappeared in unpredictable ways.

But hasn't this always been the case with MindArk and events? They try and they fail, they try and they fail...try-fail, try-fail, try-fail, try-fail...you get the picture. ;)

[no offence by the way David, Marco and Frank etc in the unlikely instance of you visiting the WoF England thread and reading the above]

On the other hand, Hurrikane, where the WoF is concerned, tries and succeeds. End of. :)

Mind you he sucks at awarding commemorative mugs and certificates but that's another story. :silly2:

At the end of the day though real-life issues must take priority over WoF participation and I know that some of our top players are just unable to join us this year but nevertheless we have their full support.

The WoF, though, is best enjoyed from the inside, that is as part of the group.

WoF's engender a sense of camaraderie, co-operation and friendship that seems unique to this competition and once you are on the inside and part of a team any cynicism is displaced by focusing on the job in hand, ie helping one's comrades achieve success.

Everything we achieve is through team-work: if we have weak links in our team we will fail, but if we stand firm and united with each person taking responsibility rather than leave it for others then we can still succeed in this year's WoF.

Before I started writing the above I didn't want it to turn into a sort of 'begging letter' to try to persuade our ubers to sign up.

My intention is not that at all because I have every confidence in our current squad and will enjoy promoting those who have served WoF England so well in past WoF's from the shadow of the support ranks without the proper recognition they deserve.

So no, we are not pleading to anyone to sign up: it is what it is, we are WoF England and we only want those who are truly dedicated to the cause to sign up...those who have enjoyed fighting side-by-side with now familiar friends and faces in the England camp in previous years...who have enjoyed the banter on TS and in the forums...who can take the rough with the smooth but at the end of the day still come back for more...because they are English and because they want England and their English friends to succeed.

So no, this is not a begging post, but I leave you with one final thought...

could you stomach the possibility of us losing to France!:eek::eek::eek:

insert intense piercing scream here

Don't worry, it will never happen! :wtg::wtg::wtg::wtg::wtg::wtg::

WoF England 2010 First Match, Stage 1

Match Start: 22.00 hours MindArk Time ie. 10 pm English Time this Saturday (tomorrow, 13th Feb) and the match lasts 3 hours

I'll be sending out match details to all our registered squad members this evening but even if you haven't put your name down you can still help us by forming a team with someone and calling it:

"WoF England Support" (then add your name or society at the end if you wish) and after 22.00 hours hunt any or all of these support mobs:

Gokibusagi (Any Maturity) 4
Argonaut (Scavenger and Above) 3
Faucervix (Any Maturity) 2
Argonaut (Guard and Below) 1

If you're English you'll definitely want to help us I know!

But even if you're not you can still form a WoF England Support team and get us the points we need.

It could be that one of your ancestors was English?

Maybe you once enjoyed a holiday in England or studied at an English University?

Or you have an English relative or friend?

If you speak English then obviously you have an affinity with England and want to help us...heck if you don't speak English but are thinking of signing up for English evening classes or just know someone who speaks English or watch English movies or television programmes that will do.

Please note that England is not in any way desperate to boost its support numbers :ahh:  it's just that we know that you'll enjoy your experience fighting in a WoF England Support team and we don't want you to miss out.

Thank you and have fun! :) :wtg:

PS - when your WoF England Support team gets a global if you're technically minded please try and screenshot it with a time-stamp as our judges may well be intoxicated at such a late hour and/or be distracted by amorous advances from their beloved valentines. ;)

A London lawyer and a Yorkshireman are sitting next to each other on a long flight to Leeds .

The lawyer is thinking that Yorkshire men are all 'cloth cap and clogs' and that he can fool them easily...

So the lawyer asks if the Yorkshireman would like to play a fun game.

The Yorkshireman is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and says that the game is a lot of fun..

'I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me only £5; you ask me one, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you £500.'

As may be expected, this catches the Yorkshireman's attention and to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game.

The lawyer asks the first question. 'What's the distance from the Earth to the moon?'

The Yorkshireman doesn't say a word, reaches in his pocket, pulls out a five-pound note, and hands it to the lawyer.

Now, it's the Yorkshireman's turn.

He asks the lawyer, 'What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?'

The lawyer uses his laptop, searches all the references he knows. He uses the air-phone; he searches the Net and even the British Library. He sends e-mails to all the smart friends he knows, all to no avail. After over an hour of searching, he finally gives up.

He wakes up the Yorkshireman and hands him £500. The Yorkshireman pockets the £500 and goes straight back to sleep.

The lawyer is going crazy not knowing the answer. He wakes the
Yorkshireman up and asks, 'Well! What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?'

The Yorkshireman reaches in his pocket, hands the lawyer £5 and goes back to sleep.

Don't mess with Yorkshiremen; we only talk different.

.... :)

WoF England need more Support!

Even if you're not from Yorkshire you can probably do a good job for England so sign up below! :wtg:

Hello Team England.

Firstly, good luck for Stage 2: Heavy Metal. There's never been an all-bot Stage this early in the Tournament before, so for the first time all the teams get to show off their Bot-Slaying abilities.

Secondly:

++++++MOB INFO++++++

To cope with demand on the day there will be some extra robots around.

Supplementary Warrior/Drone Spawn:
North of Boreas/South of East Scylla Mountains (Around 74000 70100)

Extra spawns for the Main Team
:
East of Osere (around 7900 7200)

Second Entities/Miner Bots
will remain as they are. The recently placed Low-level Eviscerators (crater) will remain.

Sorry for being so late with this information; a week of no internet hasn't helped. All teams will have this notice posted in their team threads, please pass on the information to all your members. The Judges will be able to remind you of the locations and details.

See you on the field!

Hurrikane
