WoF ENGLAND:
A call to arms!
Fellow Men of England...and sadly, at this stage it's looking like for the first time we will have an all-male Main Team representing our great nation...this is your Captain issuing a final Call-to-Arms.
WoF England have a proud history in the WoF and to preserve our magnificent record we need as many of our brave citizens that we can muster.
At present we face going into battle with our least experienced Main 12 ever: although I know for certain they will all equip themselves with dedication, honour and bravery equally I know that our new recruits would happily stand aside to let an experienced uber take their place and help to secure victory.
It is not for me to question the reasons why so many of our top players have not signed up for us this year. I myself nearly did not do so but had a chance of heart when I saw the extent of England's disarray.
It may be in part some kind of contagion effect, whereby when a few players drop out then others lose heart for the good fight.
Or possibly the 'better to travel than arrive' scenario whereby once a goal or summit has been reached there seems to be a subsequent loss of enthusiasm to put all that hard work in again (eg. the USA seemed to dip a little the year after they won the WoF and Romania seems to be suffering this year after winning it last year).
Some have cited MindArk's involvement last year with resulting poor spawns and hanging around helplessly whilst the WoF mobs reappeared in unpredictable ways.
But hasn't this always been the case with MindArk and events? They try and they fail, they try and they fail...try-fail, try-fail, try-fail, try-fail...you get the picture.
[
no offence by the way David, Marco and Frank etc in the unlikely instance of you visiting the WoF England thread and reading the above]
On the other hand, Hurrikane, where the WoF is concerned, tries and succeeds. End of.
Mind you he sucks at awarding commemorative mugs and certificates but that's another story.
At the end of the day though real-life issues must take priority over WoF participation and I know that some of our top players are just unable to join us this year but nevertheless we have their full support.
The WoF, though, is best enjoyed from the
inside, that is as part of the group.
WoF's engender a sense of camaraderie, co-operation and friendship that seems unique to this competition and once you are on the
inside and part of a
team any cynicism is displaced by focusing on the job in hand, ie helping one's comrades achieve success.
Everything we achieve is through team-work: if we have weak links in our team we will fail, but if we stand firm and united with each person taking responsibility rather than leave it for others then we can still succeed in this year's WoF.
Before I started writing the above I didn't want it to turn into a sort of 'begging letter' to try to persuade our ubers to sign up.
My intention is not that at all because I have every confidence in our current squad and will enjoy promoting those who have served WoF England so well in past WoF's from the shadow of the support ranks without the proper recognition they deserve.
So no, we are
not pleading to anyone to sign up: it is what it is, we are WoF England and we only want those who are truly dedicated to the cause to sign up...those who have enjoyed fighting side-by-side with now familiar friends and faces in the England camp in previous years...who have enjoyed the banter on TS and in the forums...who can take the rough with the smooth but at the end of the day still come back for more...because they are English and because they want England and their English friends to succeed.
So no, this is not a begging post, but I leave you with one final thought...
could you stomach the possibility of us losing to France!
