Greetings all!!

I thought some of the new arrivals would like to see how our planet developed over the years. As a disclaimer, I was not around to see all of this but it was not hard to deduce - I just scanned the VU Listings.

This is a very basic and obviously old version of the map. It was uploaded by someone who is now banned, so we will leave it at that. Date is unknown.

This pic was uploaded by Tigerman. This was the map during the COT days... which is Commercial Open Trial. This period is also referred to as "Pre-Gold".

The detail is sharper, but it is clear the size of the world is a lot smaller than it is now.

VU 4.2 - 28 JAN 2003
Participant versus Participant combat available
In a special area on the western shore of the continent of Eudoria (marked on the in-universe map) there is a special area where combat between participants is allowed. When entering this area the participant will be notified about the current status. Avatars are not lootable. The area in itself is quite valuable, with rare mineral deposits and uncommon creatures roaming round.

VU 4.4 - 4 APR 2003
Auctions
Auction houses and independent auctioneers have been added throughout the continent of Calypso. These points of trade will increase the commerce between participants and societies. Everything that normally can be traded between participants can be traded on the global auction market.
Added Boxing Ring
Boxing rings have been added. These work like limited PvP areas where combat can take place. The rules are set by the participants.
Added Production Platform
An Omegaton Survey Probe Ship has dispatched an automated production platform. This platform has gone missing and Omegaton has even denied any knowledge about its whereabouts. Rumor has it that it indeed functions and is pumping crude oil out into the open, free for grabs!
Added Catwalk
A catwalk stage has been built just outside the fashionable Nymphtown, to enhance fashion shows, dance competitions, and other kinds of entertainment.

VU 5.1 - 13 JUN 2003
Lost ruins
Somewhere on the continent a ruined city has been found. Unfortunately the coordinates to its location were lost in the transmission.
Minopolis
The new city of Minopolis founded, located some distance north of Nymphtown. This is a city designed in a new way, with a more distinct look than the old outposts.

Can someone tell us what the "Lost Ruins" are? I would guess Zychion Citadel...

VU 5.4 - 17 DEC 2003
Become Lord of the Manor - A castle is available!
Who will be the proud owner of the Calypso Castle?

Can someone tell us which castle this is? Morningtear... Strength Keep...?

VU 5.5 - 17 FEB 2004
New PvP Zone with avatar looting presented
During a deep-core drilling operation, Omegaton Industries accidentally released toxic fumes in the mountains south of Echidna. This resulted in an excruciating death for all human beings in the area. Mutants and robots have dismantled the mining site, but records of the event indicate a very rich area of rare minerals, the reason Omegaton ventured out there in the first place. However, the zone is considered contaminated and normal protection levels are reduced, meaning any avatar who ventures into this zone is susceptible to looting by others. All stackable items (except ammo packs/cells, decoys, bombs/probes, and PED/PECs) are at risk when getting killed within the zone, along with non-stackable items of all types found within the zone.
The trade terminals supply an anti-toxic shot that allows human to travel within the contaminated zone. The shot is in effect until the avatar is killed in the zone. If killed outside the zone, the shot still stays in effect. If an avatar is killed in the zone, he or she is instantly transported away from the zone to the last resurrection point or to Port Atlantis, if no such point exists. Even the ghosts fear the toxic area.

VU 5.7 - 1 JUN 2004
Crystal Palace Space Station available
The Crystal Palace Space Station is opened! Take the journey into space and experience a whole new area of exploration. See never-before-seen scenery and encounters and find new items not available elsewhere. Be the first one to set foot in a unique setting, untouched by human colonists.
The venture into space and the Crystal Palace Space Station is the first step of Project Entropia’s upcoming exploration of space and beyond.

VU 6.0 - 10 AUG 2004
New Map interface
The addition of new locations spawned the new map interface. A map of the Eudoria continent and the Crystal Palace Space Station is supplied, as well as a sneak peak of the newly discovered continent “Amethera” (also known as “The land grab continent”). The new map interface has various filters, a quicker navigation system, and three distinct zoom levels.

VU 6.1 - 6 OCT 2004
The Amethera continent is live!
The all new continent of Amethera is released! The planet Calypso’s second continent is available for exploration. The land contains never before seen creatures, threats, plants, and trees. The area of the continent is roughly three times size of the old Eudoria continent. This addition brings another great location to the Project Entropia experience, together with the Crystal Palace Space Station released earlier this year.
The first real virtual land grab!
The first real virtual land grab event will commence on the new Amethera continent! Those avatars meeting the skill requirements or who have an estate will be able to travel to Amethera and take part of the land grab. The land grab means that a society will battle for the control of a land area, on which they can set taxation on and later improve to make it better.

VU 6.2 - 2 NOV 2004
Fixed an issue with Map updates
The map interface should now show all locations, including the unsafe (PvP) ones.

VU 6.3 - 23 NOV 2004
Treasure Island open
The auction for Treasure Island on the Amethera continent is progressing. Now the area and buildings are opened up for public viewing and inspection. The Treasure Island is expected to be a center hub of communication, commerce, and logistics.

VU 7.1 - 15 FEB 2005
Amethera enhancements
The Federal Empire has begun supplying Amethera with basic facilities, after the situation is deemed “secure enough”, now after the wave of colonizers have re-taken a large area of the continent.

VU 7.2 - 22 MAR 2005
New cities built
Two cities have been built on Amethera by the Omegaton Industries and Genesis Star Interstellar conglomerates, with the blessing of the Federal Empire. Amethera is deemed to be secure enough to grant such construction, and both the Genesis Star and Omegaton representatives are pleased with the decision. The third conglomerate, Chikara OmniWorld, is expected to start construction as well in the near future. The focus and demand from the Empire is to supply housing for the colonists in the form of reasonably priced apartments.

VU 7.3 - 4 MAY 2005

Two new cities completed – Treasure Island City and Sakura City. They are located on Amethera; TIC on Treasure Island, and Sakura City to the south.

When you are located in any unsafe zone, the small figure icon in the HUD will be glowing.

As a center for the arts, New Oxford also allows participants to attend lectures from the above mentioned artists, where they reveal some of the secrets behind their success in the art world. Teleport settlements have been constructed, terminals installed, and many new and unique animals discovered in the new mountain ranges and unique climate zones of Calypso's second continent.

A NEW CALYPSO
The Vikings believed that when the world was going to end, there would be a great winter. Then gods and giants would fight the last battle. Then the world would burn, and out of the ashes, a new world would be born.
They were almost right. They just got it in the wrong order.
Five years ago, the War Titan Typhon entered the Calypsian star system, and it was aimed at Calypso. The Federal Imperial Navy desperately tried to stop it. They threw everything they had against Typhon, even their own lives.
They failed.
Typhon entered the atmosphere over the ocean, just northwest of Amethera. It painted a fiery line across the sky to the east. Minutes later, Typhon smashed into the ground at Hadesheim. The sun was blocked by the millions of tons of dust thrown up into the air by the impact. Fire-storms raged over Calypso, and then ash fell, and snow fell, and the great winter took hold of Calypso.
But it was not the end. Most of the colonists had been evacuated to Exodus station. They waited there for the dust to settle, the skies to clear, and life to grow back.
The long wait is over. The frontier is open again.

VERSION UPDATE FEATURES
After the impact of the war titan Typhon, the geography of Calypso has changed. Using the CryENGINE2 game engine, the new frontier is brought to life. It will be a new adventure to rediscover the planet, as well as discover the new features of the colony world.
Locations
Almost everything on Calypso was knocked down, set on fire or buried when Typhon hit the ground. Some places have been rebuilt and others are under construction. Also, one new settlement has been constructed and one has been redesigned.

Content list clarification VU10.0
CND teleport service
Due to the crowded space around Calypso in this phase of resettlement, civilian space traffic has been grounded. Also, hangars have not been rebuilt yet. Travel between CND and Calypso is currently serviced by a temporary teleport service. A one way ticket is 25 PED. This fee will be distributed among the hangar owners when civilian space travel service is reinstated. NOTE: This is a temporary solution.

Mini-Update 10.0.6 – 28 AUG 2009
Time zones have been enabled. If you are afraid of the dark, teleport to another zone where the sun is still shining.

VU 10.0.8 - 4 SEP 2009

RESETTLEMENT UPDATE
A faulty wiring in the Jason Centre teleporter caused the passenger to relocate several miles up in the air on rematerialization if accessed through Twin Peaks, Fort Ares or Jason Centre teleporters, and the Jason Centre teleporter was deemed hazardous by the Imperial Public Transportation Office. For your safety, it has been removed and replaced with one of the spare teleporters erroneously placed at Segna Forest. Teleporter service to Jason Centre should now work correctly, and there’s just one teleporter at Segna Forest.

The shopping container at the outpost south of Strength Keep has been excavated after the landslide and is now restored to working order.

Imperial Mining Office is proud to announce the new and improved Oil Rig in the desert west of Nymphtown. “We know that this rig is located in bandit country” said Harlan Macaulay, spokesman for IMO, “but we feel that we have taken the necessary precautions to ward off raiders, and we look forward to the projected production increase of petrochemicals in the near future.” The new Oil Rig will undergo rigorous field testing before production starts.

VU 10.1 - 6 OCT 2009
RESETTLEMENT UPDATE
It is now a month and a half since Calypso opened for resettlement. During this time, teleportation have been restricted to the use of large-scale fixed teleporters because the heavy neutrino radiation from the drive core of War Titan Typhon induced a great risk for teleporter misrelocations. The fixed teleporters are adequately shielded to compensate for this; MindForce TP chips are not.
RDI have monitored the neutrino radiation, and deemed that the level has decreased enough for MindForce TP to be safe. Based on this recommendation, Colonial Administration has decided to enable this service again, effective immediately.
Despite several sabotage attempts against the Oil Rig, and thanks to the brave colonists defending it from the Wastelanders last week, the Imperial Mining Office crews have finally completed and tested the Oil Rig. It is back online again and producing oil!

That is all I could dig out... if I missed something, or if someone knows of the introduction of a City, TP or location I omitted please let me know and I will add it to this list.

Good luck to all :yay:

WOW you put in alot of work on this. Thanks for the infor :yay:

Great work Jade!

A few things I can think of from my time in the game that you haven't listed above:

- Palms Corner TP/town added (iirc this was not mentioned in the release notes but was quickly discovered by colonists)
- Malls and Emerald Lakes LA added (that should be in VU notes somewhere - c. 8.8?)
- Chug's Hideout added (I think this had just been introduced when I started in May 2006, so possibly VU 8.3 - at that time it didn't show up on the map properly, it appeared on the map when you went there for the first time but was listed as 'Atlas Haven' iirc)
- houses and new castles added VU 9.1 (not mentioned in VU notes)

I'm not sure when the last few TPs on Eudoria were added - you have Camp Caravan in the list above but I think there were some other late ones, North Space Base for example. There are more castles too that turned up at some point.

The original Amethera outback land areas must have been added between TI opening and CND opening, so some time in the first half of 2005 I guess? Or were these included in Amethera from the beginning, but only sold later?

These TPs existed in the Commercial Open Trial (COT), or Pre-Gold period:

EUDORIA ONLY FOR NOW!!

Aegis Mound
Atlas Haven
Atlas Island North
Atlas Island South
Billy's Spaceship Afterworld
Camp Phoenix
Chimera Canyons
East Scylla Mountains
Fort Ares
Fort Fury
Fort Meduza
Hadesheim East City
Hadesheim Outpost
Hadesheim South City
Jason Center
Limnadian District
Orthos West Mound
Port Atlantis
Tethy's Creek
Twin Peaks

I deduced when these were introduced (helped by fellow colonists sometimes):
Minopolis
North Space Base
Zychion Citadel

So that leaves the following:
Camp Caravan
Camp Echinda (mentioned in VU 5.5 dtd 17 FEB 2004 when PVP3 is introduced)
Cape Corinth
Fort Argus
Fort Ithaca
Fort Pandora
Fort Troy
Fort Zeus (mentioned in VU 5.5 dtd 18 FEB 2004 when issues with the hangers was fixed)
Hadesheim C
Nymphtown (mentioned in VU 4.4 dtd 4 APR 2003 when the Catwalk was added)

Did these appear when the old Project Entropia went "Gold"? Any help from the players that were around during the COT and "Gold" days are welcome.

The ones you listed last starting with Camp Caravan were in place when I started around....I think March of 2003.

Now I'm confused... when I read this earlier I could swear that you had included a mention of Camp Caravan being added, and now it's not there :scratch2:

I changed it a bit... when you mentioned it earlier, I realized the VU notes were not referring to Camp Caravan, but a nearby location. The added TP was NSB.

Ah, I see. Good, thought I was going a bit crazy for a moment there

:jawdrop: OK, this is too, too weird.

I was just looking through the old VU updates Friday, planning on doing almost this exact same thing.

BTW, you missed the 1st two PVP areas.
  • PVP1 - 2003-01-28 during the 4.2 "gold" update"
  • PVP2 - 2003-04-04 VU 4.4
  • PVP3 - 17-02-2004 VU 5.5 (already listed)
  • PVP4 - 20-03-2007 VU 8.11 (already listed)

Kinda nice to see the back story given for the PVP 2 (specifically the rig) & PVP 3.

I'd rep ya, as you seriously deserve it, but, y'know. Spreading the love. Stop making such good posts, will ya?

Great work + rep.

What strikes me is all the (real) new things added during the first years.

could be splitting hairs here, but i think chugs appeared closer to 8.4 or even 8.5. i know that it wasnt there in July 06.

this thread here discusses the actual changing of the name from 'atlas haven' to 'chugs' https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/about-entropia-universe/38431-new-city-chugs-hideout.html so, it existed a little bit before this threads start point.

don't forget the addition of swamp camp and the other strange named outpost north of PA. i think they happened just before 9 but can't be certain and was unable to track info down on the forum (after a very brief search, i am sure someone more diligent will find it ;))

Rest assured, I tried locating it also. One of the biggest problems with "search" is that while you know what you are looking for, if you are not using the same name / terms and the poster you will never get a match. Semantics perhaps, but very real.

Several teleporters added to Amethera; names after players (Rei's Defence, Nea's Place, Nate Valley, Wolverine Hope)

I have often wondered if there is any stories to how these tp's got named after player's:scratch2:

Gday Rayne

I was searching forums for something when I came across this little gem...

Plz Plz update with the creation of the new visitor centre and X-fire and China Telcom Buildings.

+ REP for those logging our history!

Bags

Added today's VU with the new building at Twin Peaks.

Oh wow, I remember Amethera being announced, and the land grab for it.

Once all of our intrepid explorers re-discover our Calypso, this will be updated to accurately provide us with what was destroyed, moved and added as a result of the Typhon impact.

Progress is coming along nicely... please take a moment to thank the explorers that are gathering the information. I will try to link to all the threads related to the exploration when I get home tonight.

The first post asked which castle was the first one: I don't know the name, but it is the one belonging to T-Rex near the old PvP3.

As far as the ruins - yes, it was Zychion - that used to be an empty field.

The cities you couldn't find mention of were all added LONG ago, I know I got them all when I sas still getting my TPs, and I started back in October 2002.

Added all the info I could find regarding the post-Typhon Calypso. Enjoy :)

This deserves a bump for old time sake :)

Bring back the memories!

wait ... there's a history? i nearly forgot!

The first post asked which castle was the first one: I don't know the name, but it is the one belonging to T-Rex near the old PvP3..

Whatever happened to T-rex? He used to be a legendary player during the old times. I remember visiting his castle and watching his extensive collection of rare items and decorations. And the crown jewel of course, a mod merc just lying casually on the table. Always tried picking it up everytime I was there, hoping for a bug or something :)

I think the first castle would be Morningtear castle. It's currently a museum and a shop with various collections housed inside it. Click on Morningtear Castle Shop in my signature for more info.
