How MA will Shut Down EU

I hate to partly agree with Brooklyn here (like I hate to see that even ignore doesn't stop quoted posts) but I see it more as a sign that the sky-rocketting prices, set by those with more money than sense, reached the point of ridiculous and this is the result. If everyone who had a shitload of cash bought the stuff they wanted, it was only a matter of time before the game ran out of people with that much spare cash. So what happens then? You gotta sell it cheaper to those with slightly less cash. As everyone's got slightly less cash this year, it's more evident.

Not MA/FPC at fault; just a welcome lack of silly money. Anyone who pays thousands of dollars for a virtual item has to think it's a bit silly. If they weren't prepared to go to these extremes, the prices would never get that high in the first place.

1. MA announces that they have finally had a chance to hire additional coders to produce much more realistic "Inflict Critical Hit" rates from several mobs.

2. MA publicly apologizes to players who have always found it absurd that Atrox mature and olds with FOUR razor sharp claws, could never inflict the 300-400 dmg hits that obviously they should be capable of when all four claws hit an avatar simultaneously (every sixth to eighth hit or so, on average).

3. MA announces that Atrox pheromone levels have all of as sudden jumped off the charts! Top scientists are telling colonists to beware, and only to approach Atrox in fully plated Rutuba with amped rockjackers or better.

4. In order to pay the salary of the new coders, after every avatar death the following message is displayed. "Game Over, please insert 25 cents within the next 27 seconds to continue your game, or to withdraw funds"

"uh? hmm, wtf?" ... 24...23...22 - "Honey!!! I need some Quarters, and fast!"...
"Honey!!! no not Euro coins, American Quarters, you know the ones with that dude with the funny hair"...
"Honey! where the hell is the coin slot on this old Dell?, let see, USB... Parallel port... VGA... WTH, I cant find it Honey!!! Maybe the money goes directly into the router?, Quick, help me move this desk"...
"Quick!" 4...3...2... "oh no!!!"

The screen fades slightly and a message appears...

"Game Over, Thank you for playing Entropia Universe. Please insert 25 cents to create a new avatar and begin another epic journey full of adventure and derring-do on the wild and always exciting planet called Calypso!"
 
I can just imagine looging in and finding MA changed my avatar to Limited !!!
I think that will be the way the unirverse ends :)

Just becouse some a scared to face fact that the EU will one day go down dosent mean we shouldt have a tread like this.

The reaction of some of the ppl in this treadclearly shows scared and terrified some are of the idea that their insanly high risk investments in EU will one day go down the drain.

Personly i find this tread very ineresting, and its a topic that clearly deserves a disussion.

Me: I think it will be a perfect storm, and there will be no day after tmorow ;)
 
Entropia will end in a few diffrent ways,

First possible way is that HardWrath will post unfunny and downright killjoyish posts and world war III will start cuasing every country in the world nuking his house thus ending the world..

Or Hardwrath will post more boring unconstructive crap that will cause a huge flame fest such as this one and everyone gets banned from EF and eventually EU and MA have to shut the servers down becuase none will play anymore..

And all money tied up ingame will go to hardwrath as compensation and then the first way of ending the universe will come about.

On another note,

hardwrath will post anything on the forums and Pink will agree with everything he says causing a time paradox rip that will suck everyone in and end the universe.
 
I liked this thread i think its funny to see how everyone would like to go out ...

seems people are having a bad easter weekend, read one thread with people bashing a guy for posting a global picture thread, and then this uneccesary bashing ...

im just as scareds shitless as everyone else of this happening but isnt then better to make fun of the situation and hope to god it never happens ?

THe end of the world is cominG!!!! i hope i log, white screen disapears and i see me surrounded by huge robots all shooting me at once till im dead as they invade my screen thousands ofem!! then it says something garble like the planet has been invaded by a massive robot force all tps and revivals have been destroyed!!! hehehe

hmm that sounds like a good storyline for a video ;O

i think all the chaos will start something like i portrayed in this. only watch if u have a 3 minutes to waste taking in a big load of bs that will never happen...

i didnt get any neg reps for this as we all knew it was in good humour and shouldnt be taken seriously. as was the fealing i got from the OP initial post, his visions of a robot or zombie invasion were rediculous and funny, and obviously not ment to be taken seriously...

I find the question amusing in a morbid sort of way...

on a positive note... there are still plenty of people depositing and losing money... so I don't think it will happen within the span of most of our gaming careers... in other words, so long as MA has a profitable model... we have nothing to worry about... someone would be running the servers even if the profit margin was 10% of what it is now.

I see the absolute worst case scenario (years and years in the future) as a smaller plot development team, declining loots, and a game that very few people want to play...

thankfully... there are all of us reading who think the game is pretty cool... so that's not gonna happen.

I agree. My previous post was my wish for the worst case scenario. This game still has legs under it, despite what some think...and others say before thinking.

Back on topic, my guess on how MA will close down EU...?

They will simply reduce and reduce the loot.
Uber HoF will be 10 PEDs and above, Globals will be 50 PECs.
MA will have to insert PECs precision in global chat. :D
One day, all mobs will tell us "I did not carry any loot".
This is how I see the end of EU, by its RCE.

The biggest "investors" in the game know what is going on, what will happen, when it will happen, and how it will happen. You also see all of them still here, still playing, and still buying.

First of all... that's true.... and.... it's bullshit that the big spenders know what's going on......
Second of all.... have you looked through auction and seen who's selling off "Uber" items lately? It's the "Biggest Investors"........ well.. I don't think I've seen Deathifier or Star selling their gear in auction... but then again... when u got that much invested.... you have no choice but to take a chance I guess...:(

All the money and funds from the whiners of this thread are taken away and player gets nothing.

Money is spread out between the ppl in this thread that did not get on their high horses and started to bash the TS

Theyre selling because MA announced a second golden age, so they are taking advantage of the sky rocket prices, because those same "rare" items will most likely drop again once the age begins, and thus their price will lower significantly.

And the ones selling out are actually the ones who have been here THE LONGEST, and have somewhat of a clue of how the golden age will be. To me it just sounds like good entrepreneuring.:wise:

As I recall no of the uber items that exist now will drop in the second golden age of calypso. Only new "uber" items.

So to bad for those people that fear the "rare" items gonna drop in price. Because it wont.
 
First MA will make sure that all players have 999 ped tt total in pedcard and items, so they don't have to return anything to any permanently banned players (by giving hofs to 0 ped newbies who will be very happy about it and sucking ubers dry).

7.5. the PED balance on Your PED Card is less than 1 000 PED, the minimum amount for a withdrawal.

When I joined it was during the influx caused by the publicity surrounding the sale of CND to NEVERDIE. Loads of people came in at once, making the good items held by those before worth more PED; same amount of items, more people= more demand= higher prices.

Nothing suggests to me that the results of the influx of people who come after Cry2 will be any different. Especially if FPC come up with what I like to call "an advertising budget" LOL

:D this thread made me laugh.

My vision of an end game is that when you log in you find all the game items spawned into your inventory and your ped cards has unlimited number for peds,desposit/withdraw is no longer available.
Everything would be worthless so people would leave on their own.

But even then I would still be here :yay:
 
MA would first announce that if you deposit this week you will get 2x the amount of peds!

next week you simply can't login.

This will happen in 2011

MA would shut down EU by stopping their investment in it. Even after investments are stopped EU would be kept alive as long as it generates revenue. Support services would be at a minimal though.

It is important to realize that it is more expensive to develop new stuff in the game than to keep the game alive. Therefore one can detect the first signal of change by looking at how MA invest in new "stuff".

Current status: MA is investing in the development of EU based on CryEngine.
Conclusion: No immediate danger of shutdown.

I always imagined I just wouldnt be able to log on, no imagination :laugh:

Not sure how much I would care, but I would be frantic to get back with my on-line friends, hopefully in another game.

Maybe thats the difference, people care and fret about investments.. Or those just caring where thier friends are?

One answer:

Casinos don't shut down! They modify with newer and better ways to attract people ( *cough* Cryengine ) lol... only the players get bankrupt ;)

So don't worry EU will always be here as a good old friend to take all your money ..... know anyone who want's to join ??.. you could be a mentor and get a 5 ped gun after spending 1k ped training them or get a 50 ped global after spending 200 ped bullets or get your BP to 100 QR spending 30k ped and sell it for 300 ped or even better sell your skills, buy a chip that will hold your great skills that cost you (X)K peds for 200+ peds and then sell it for maybe a profit of 200 peds on the chip not the amount you spent on skills lol

Everyone should note that Mindark was profiting nicely when Generic Skill Implants were selling for 70 PED each*, as well as when ML-45 was TT+3k.

(* - GSI is the predecessor of the ESI. ESI selling at 5000% would be an GSI at 50 PED.)

Project Entropia Universe Planet Calypso (d'oh) has been running for over five years (commercially) - looking on a one-year graph doesn't exactly tell the whole truth.
