Longer tests same result.

I get tons of fails while hunting.

Any ideas besides changing provider and hoping the routing is different?

I seem to be having similar problems.

While trying to figure out why I couldn't download an update or a new installer, I tried tracing the route numerous times. I regularly saw telia servers having much packet loss and often could not go past them.

e.g. www.entropiauniverse.com

Apparently not all telia sucks, a part of my traceroute goes through it without problems, so the problem is only at your 8th hop. Switching to another provider might not help if its uplink will use the same route.

well...I know nothing about internet or related technique....

And since I saw your location is "China"....yes, I knew here are other players got the same problem cant download the patch released on Friday, including me. Meanwhile, I cant download the installer on Eu website too.

I managed to get a VPN and downloaded the patch. Able to log in on Sunday and play. So get a VPN if you want to download the patch...before MA fixed it :p

try to ping login.entropiauniverse.com (this is what support will ask u to ping)
do u get same problem?

with login.entropiauniverse.com there is no problem

yet with login.planetcalypso.com (the site mentioned on the support case page), I have the same problem.

At the moment, I believe that my difficulties are caused by 'regional oversight', therefore I am looking into 'alternative' solutions (but still struggling).

It should be mentioned that these go through a different series of servers (not telia), and I do not wish to hijack this thread.

I was asked to ping login.entropiauniverse.com

I get no response from login.planetcalypso.com

This is my ping.

Tracerouting to login.entropiauniverse.com takes me through the same server as hop 11 in my first post. It's just a pingable server whereas entropiauniverse.com is not.

I tried a trial of something called WTFast last night and it seemed to work.

Yes it does. And this has been a recurring problem (and thread) for years.

Just for comparison.

I'm not worried about the ping, it's the packet loss that makes it not possible to hunt.

What's weird is it's fine now, it's only evening hours USA time that it is bad.

My guess a overload in the US/Europe internet connection, Europe still awake playing and US internet use at it's peak.

Well my trace route changed but it's dependant on the dns record you get when login.entropiauniverse.com is looked up.

MA have 6 ip's registered and as such you get a random one when connecting.

login.entropiauniverse.com 94.31.61.10
login.entropiauniverse.com 94.31.61.11
login.entropiauniverse.com 94.31.61.12

login.entropiauniverse.com 178.237.32.77
login.entropiauniverse.com 178.237.32.78
login.entropiauniverse.com 178.237.32.79

The quick fix would be find your best one and add it to your hosts file.

Selecting the first results in 15 hops for me and selecting the first of the second group results in only 11.

The update server has only one IP associated 178.237.32.70, I've tested it twice and but got roughly the same result

The first set I go through above.net, the second set telia.net.

But are these just login servers?

Get a firewall program that records the current active connections and refresh while in game when not doing other downloads will get you the IP that you are actively connecting to.
One of them will be the used by the game servers.
