FREE SOFTWARE

PC Testing and performance:

CPU-Z http://www.cpuid.com

GPU-Z techpowerup.com/gpuz/

HWiNF064 http://hwinfo.com

Rainmeter http://rainmeter.net

CrystalDiskInfo http://crystalmark.info The Shizuku and Kurei Kei editions cause you to have a cute manga girl next to your impossibly detailed drive statistics :D

FurMark http://geeks3d.com/furmark A word of caution: It's a very demanding and possibly even damaging GPU stress test.

Prime95 http://mersenne.org Powerful CPU benchmarking.

Cinebench http://maxon.net Cinebench's visual benchmarking results make it a great tool for testing or racing one machine against another - but it's the built-in leaderboards that'll really let you know when something's up. If you're lagging behind a Core 2 Duo, either they've got some serious overclocking abilities, or there's a bottleneck on your end.

MemTest86 http://memtest86.com Old School but good.

OCCT http://ocbase.com This one also has a PSU test which runs CPU and GPU benchmarks simultaneously to help you determine whether there's a lack of power anywhere in your system.

Desktop Extras:

Greenshot http://getgreenshot.org

Fences 1.01 http://stardock.com The 1.01 is the free version.

Total Commander http://ghisler.com

WinDirStat http://windirstat.net

TidyTabs http://nurgo-software.com

Ninite http://ninite.com Update all your apps at the same time.

TestDisk http://cgsecurity.org Don't be fooled by the name. It is capable of testing disk but it's much more adept at pulling data from drives that are about to click their last, or those writable optical disk that have started to rot with age. It's not pretty or quick but it's essential for data recovery.

Eraser http://eraser.heidi.ie Also you can open file explorer and under devices and drive select a drive then you can right click on it and hover over the eraser icon and select erase unused space. Gets rid of space by things already deleted since you know that when you delete something it does not actually get deleted from your drive.

Creativity:

Cakewalk http://bandlab.com

Pro Tools First http://avid.com If you host a podcast this tool lets you pull in four audio inputs at once which is great for separating individual mics and the first version include 23 high-end effects.

Audacity http://audacityteam.org

GIMP http://gimp.org Not quite as good as Adobe Photoshop but not $500 a year either.

Paint.NET http://getpaint.net

Inkscape http://inkscape.org

Scribus http://scribus.net

Davinci Resolve http://blackmagicdesign.com

Blender http://blender.org

Daz 3D daz3d.com

customer protection initiatives

for reporting companys who promise and never deliver or never fix their broken services, or try to screw people in any other ways. very handy in todays anonymous online world and virtual universes.

or for reporting porno websites who dont do any or no proper age verification to their visitors while its mandatory in the country you live in.

protect your childs against online crime.

http://www.oldversion.com/windows/microsoft-paint/ - OLD VERSIONS OF MSPAINT. Real use for this these days to is to print gigantic jpg images to spread them across multiple pages so you can piece them together for full poster size printing on 8.5x11 inch paper, etc.

https://www.autotracer.org/ -converts images to svg format.

So you use autotracer, make a svg. Open it up in gimp, blow it up to whatever size you are trying to print to, export the blown up svg as jpg, open it in old ms paint print, and done.

I think corel draw has something called tiling that does similar but this process with mspaint works best historically imho.
