German nursing home finds missing elderly patients at heavy metal festival

A nursing home in Germany contacted the police last weekend because two elderly residents were missing. They weren’t drinking a cup of coffee somewhere or walking outside. No, the police found them at one of the largest metal festivals in the world.

The two elderly men broke out of their nursing home on Friday to attend the Wacken Open Air metal festival. After the German nursing home alerted police of their disappearance, police found the men at 3 a.m. at the festival.

“The two gentlemen had clearly enjoyed their Friday evening outing”, reports spokeswoman Merle Neufeld for the Schleswig-Holstein police to the German NDR Radio 1.

“They obviously liked the metal festival,” she added. And while they were “disorientated and dazed” when they were found, the geriatric metal heads really didn’t want to leave the festival.

The oldies were not allowed to feast all weekend on Wacken Open Air. The staff of the nursing home sent a van to bring the older men to the house. Because they were ‘ reluctant ‘ to go along, the van got an escort from the police.

Wacken Open Air is organised annually in the small town of Wacken, near Hamburg. This year was the 29th edition. With 70,000 visitors it is one of the largest metal festivals in the world.

Not me, but thanks for the idea :)

Is Rockpalast still up and running? If so then that where they will have to send out the geriatric squad to pick up Loco in a near future. :) I remember the Rocknacht or "Maratonrock" as it was called here in Sweden. When this almost totally forgotten band (except in Germany) showed up one night in 1978 me and my best friend (who I spent every night watching TV at Marathon rock with) we just went crazy. Man, we had never heard anything like it before. Funk + Rock + Disco (which I hate btw) but performed by the funkiest people I have ever had the honor to hear.

continued in next post ...

And now 40 years later:

Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy was always described as a way grittier version of Tina Turner.

So hell yea, the geriatric clinic can never tie me down if something like this would come in my way.

Keep on rocking you oldies :yay:

Wasn't me, I was elsewhere.

;)

I'm not exactly a metalhead but Wacken is cult! At the festival there is an opening tradition with a real "metal" band, the local firefighters' brass capella:

Maybe this is what our poor inmates wanted to see?

And yay Rockpalast, although I didn't know it was a thing outside of Germany, too :) You know your age when you saw any of these originally -

Re. Mother's finest - Hell, mate, I was gonna post the very same video :D

Metallic thread :)

I did a lot of Psytrance parties, ages ago, as DJ and Liveact. It hapenet often, that i saw old ppl, just dance to this music. Ok, now i be old too :) But i always love this music and also don't gave up to make some tracks. Ofc, i also like old rock bands, and metallic bands too. One of my most loved bands was ELP. They opened my brain :)

You can´t stop the metallheads once more proven :)

Even more, since last year a beer pipeline. 7 kilometers long and 10k liters per hour.

:beerchug::headbang:

No escape this year though. Last time I escaped for Wacken was to see Motorhead, already s0me years ago.
