The Economy of Entropia Universe

I think this video may have been sponsored by MA. (Disclaimer: I only watched 4-5 minutes of it) If so, that's good to see MA doing a bit of advertising so to speak.

I saw another video recently with the same creator, and in that video he said he was being sponsored to review the game. This may be part of that contract agreement.

Good video and shows DX11 off to the max.

This is an Economics channel that has reviewed the economy in other video games such as Eve and the economy in different countries. Just natural to eventually talk of Entropia as an education video that fits the channel.

So no it's unlikely that MA had anything to do with it. This is the best objective video I have seen talking of our Economy and they called the game a Casino latter in the video which MA wouldn't want in a sponsored vid.

There was an MA sponsored video and there is a thread on that it had under 1k views. Then this video came out.

Regardless it's a very fair video and after it's release I posted it in rookie chat yesterday and had a new player that watched that video and was here to check out the game. So likely more people have joined to see what Entropia is about. The things I love about the video is never did they ever talk about this being a FREE to play game or anything like that. They said you will lose money by doing professions. That Entropia is a good economic study in regards to it's actual economy.

So good objective videos like this one are needed. Where players know you need to deposit and you will lose if you play. That the investment or economy aspect comes from owning Land, shops, deeds or services.

nice video. I wish it were corrected that the exchange rate really isn't 10ped -> 1 dollar. If you buy ped online at EU website, its actually a .95% ratio. MU gets their cut right from the beginning. :)

Very good information. Thank you for clarifying. I'll have to finish watching the video later tonight.

And I agree with you, that more objective videos are needed about EU. I always felt like selling the game as "You can become filthy rich in EU all you have to do is play!" Was the wrong approach. It's good for prospective players to understand the risks, rewards, and know that most likely the game will be a hobby that costs some money to play each month.

Great video, honest review of game more or less how I explain to my friends. You can have some luck but over time house will always win. Want to make money use the EU economy but don't play against the house.

For sure this will get much better results than the one really sponsored by MA.

But does a new player stay ?

Any average joe can see how much peds spent per hour, see avg return with X setup, and see the cost per hour to play.
And run away.

Adverdising about making money is not a great idea, but i am probably wrong in this one.

Well i was a new player and i lived from EU for living few years so yes its possible and i stayed in the game also :)

Very accurate and informative video :)

Very much enjoyed watching it.

First of all I always plan to make money in the video games I play so playing Entropia seemed natural when I discovered it in 2016. The issue is it's by far worse for a new player now to join.

When I joined and was reading every thread in the forum and learning the game. I sweated and sold that for 2.5 ped per 1k. Also Fruits were a whopping 16 ped per 1k. There were actually FREE to play activities while learning the game you could indulge in.

So before I even bought my starter pack to invest, I had sweated enough learning the game to buy AUDs so my sweat paid interest. Then selling fruit from harvesting and fruit walking was a nice way to supply any new player and their journey.

This doesn't exist now. It's incredibly doubtful if I joined today I would stay so MA would of missed many deposits. There needs to be a NEW FREE to play model introduced. It really is a required part of this games success and player retention/growth. If new players feel like it's always a loss before they ever get into making any meaningful deposits. That is bad and this is where we are currently.

MA either needs to set sweat at a TT price of 2 ped per 1k and find a way to get fruit up to 16-20ped per 1k or add other means to make PED. It's outdated so I would welcome other means, not sure what that would be but obviously not a noob oil rig.

I understand your point of view, but what you ask have a cost, and this cost is someone else expense. So it can't be working. Its like everyone is craving for whatever MU possible. but who is gonna pay this sweat and fruit a 16 peds/k.

The only viable option to me is reducing the cost to play. But it is not gonna change. Must deal with it.

It is up to YOU to reduce your cost to play. Just go tame some bunnies or go hunt some L2 mobs, or go to the oil field or Boreas or Royal Club, there's so many activities you can do in the game that cost very little... Go do the AI on RT, the daily on the Ark Moon, the maze on Cyrene...

I'm not sure what the number is exactly that you are complaining about that is "too high cost to play" for you, but I'm assuming it's related to hunting creatures of your hunting level. Sure, there's a decent turnover involved with that, but YOU DON'T HAVE TO HUNT THOSE MOBS! Nobody is forcing you to do that!

And if hunting is really the ONLY THING you want to do, here's an idea: find your lowest level hunting profession, maybe it's clubs or cryo, or maybe support weapons, and find a weapon that matches your skills on that one and find a mob you could hunt efficiently with that and just work on that skill. That should reduce your cost to play hopefully by 25-40% or more...

This is Entropia, it's all nice and easy now:

Want to spend some money and have fun?

Sure. Crack open a beer, put your feet up, drop some $ on your ped card and go chase those swirlies by hunting some really cool/funky/interesting and just plain massive mobs (solo or team depending on your mood) on different planets while taking in the awesome scenery and chatting to an amazing community.......all while praying to Lootius for that ATH dream. There's nothing else like it! :yay:

Want to make money?

Sure. Drop some $ on your ped card and buy some CLD/AUD/CP deeds/shares. Simple. :)

Ohhhh.......you mean you want to get paid to play Entropia without depositing?? Well, amazingly there are a few things you can do (such as sweating and stone/fruit/dung finding etc), and obviously once you've done that you can move up to trading and so on, but obviously it's more like a 'job' than a game at that point (unless you really like doing those things, in which case you are getting paid to play), but you would expect that as you're earning money right??

Ohhhh.......you mean you want to get paid to play all the really fun things in the 'game' part of Entropia such as hunting and mining etc?? Well, I suppose we can all live in the dream world eh, but someones got to keep the servers on and the staff paid!

This never gets old! :D

yeah, if you want to have fun, you just need money.
So, without money entropia is no fun.

Who is this dude?

He's an ass.
Best things in life are free!
Fun doesn't have to cost money.

Capitalist bastard.

I completely agree with you. Best things in life are free indeed! Otherwise rich people would be happy and having fun all the time, unfortunately some even take their own life and they have money to buy anything they want.

But, this is real cash economy game. There is cash to be spent and to be earned just don't have the cash in your heart and everything will be fine.

What the guy is trying to say is if you want to climb the hill of enjoyment in EU you need more bankroll. That's why some old players refuse to kill punny creatures because no thrill anymore doing that.

John Bates, he was Mindark's evangelist in 2006-2012
I'm sorry. Someone has to say it, and it might as well be me.

Is he an Entropia Master?
