People are always worried about change but change is actually good.

We are always programmed to think 'better the devil you know' , but I actually think MA is onto something good with the mining changes.

I myself aren't shy to criticize MA if things aren't right but this time I think they are on the right path.

So I have listed a few advantages of the new system as a crafter and a miner... as I know there will be a million posts with negetive stuff... but we have to weigh things properly from both sides to make up our mind.

As a crafter:

  1. You double your chances of selling an amp/equipment as both surveyors and prospectors use the same stuff.
  2. You save time in deciding what amp to craft enmat/ore
  3. BP drops would be more streamlined now.
  4. You can work up your way as a crafter from finder amp 1- through to the top and wont get confused which side to chose.
  5. Equipment /Amp prices may rise and stabilize as more demand and less choice.
As a miner:

  1. Now you only need 1 set of equipment and go nuts whatever you want to do. So saves money in buying second pair for your adventurous days.
  2. You can still pick what you want to mine instead of changing gear by pushing 1/2/both buttons and instantly mine what you like.
  3. You can decide what you will mine based on testing an area and seeing what it is spitting out more (En/Ore) and then go nuts on a particular type.
  4. Less equipment=Less decay = more money in your pockets.

I am sorry for people who are having a hard time adjusting (Especially for people with bigger gear and investments like a few of my friends) but in time I think we will come to accept and like this system. Let's give it a go.

I haven't tried it yet, but i agree. Sure ill lose a few ped on duplicated refiners etc that will likely crash in price in the short term, but oh well.

Short term there will be some markup fluctuations. Especially people panic selling certain items; which will crash their price. But long term i think it will be healthier.

Overall it seems like a good change. Could use a couple tweaks tho. Like clarifying tools vs prospecting/surveying/treasure hunting professions. As well as depth data(does it vary by each profession, weighted average, something else, etc). The finder UI should highlight your selections better(too subtle). That kinda stuff.

Less equipment=Less decay = more money in your pockets.
This depends on if you had eco things for one and not the other, as your extractors get used as much as before the finders decay accordingly to what you mine(cant test since I cant use my TK320(was my Mt1000 before this vu)

but my 104 refiner sure is nice to have now when I can use it for everything and not just enmatts :)

How badly did people get nerfed on depths? I keep hearing people complain about that in game.

Check this thread so maybe this stay on topic as OP wants

I have some gripes about todays update but most of what you mention in the opening post actually makes sense to me.

yeah I am with you on that mate, great changes!

I am sure the system will readjust itself based on the new equipment so I think all the apprehensions will end once people get used to the new equipment.

Didn't most ore mining gear have higher mu than enmatter gear? Now it is all the same, so some lost and some gained. I think maybe most lost a bit, as there is now double the number of ore mining gear on the market as there was yesterday.

Yes but as you said it balances out doesn't it?... well how can it be double the ore mining gear now?:scratch2: ... it's just mining gear doesn't matter ore or enmat.

I pretty much think the same as you do and yes , people have a tendency to dislike change. However, the system seems to have become simpler.

A few high end crafters , esp ma-109 got nerfed badly but otherwise i think the changes were well taken care of.

The fact that MU of certain items were taken into consideration was a welcome relief too.

I am actually fuming mad with this new update, yes i do like the new system and the combined mining feature, BUT and yes a BIG BUT is as follows ------ please read --------

It looks like MA will make extra from us faster with the combined mining feature, i have just tested it on foma, and all i hit now is enmatter, and when i hit on ore we now find poor and small on ore on foma, this never happened on ore before, smallest claim on ore before this update was a modest on FOMA....

it is like enmatter has taken over ore in the finders, cos the claim sizes in ore is the same as enmatter and i find more enmatter now on foma than i do ore, so basically we find even lower amount of ores and enmatter with this new system, i had 150peds when i logged in an hour ago, now it has all gone, in 1 hour in combined mining, i am totally tottally upset about the claim sizes............ :(

Further more, when people realize this, i am sure people will start complaining to MA, which i will be doing now, i will send a support case, and yep they dont care anyway, i will just get a standard reply saying we cant discuss loot blah blah blah, and MA will probly say that loot hasnt changed, when it has majorly,

WE are playing in a system where we have no control over

First... on topic :)

I think the change is rather good aswell. I'm a bit concerned about what's going to happen to ore / enmatter mu long term as only one line of mining equipment exist - hence a smaller variety of materials will be needed to craft this? Or is this not an issue? (I've hardly done any crafting, and my knowledge of crafting is very limited, so it might not be an issue at all)

I did a quick run yesterday on TI using the new F-105, and mining both enmatter and ores - I did also get way more enmatter claims than ore claims, however I suspect this is just bad luck or something.

Secondly... you are mining at FOMA with 150 ped to start with? How did you expect that would go?

I mean... I have had 90+ nrf's straight a couple of time up there. True the claims are bigger, but the return varies a lot more up there and have always done so, so you can't complain about the new system or hit rates or sizes when you only did such a small cycle and even on FOMA.

lol, the 150ped was what i had left on my ped card, i had 3000 peds last week.........

trust me, i know there is a serious issue with mining, there is another thread in this forum now too, about claim sizes, and i have submitted a support case too, i will post the reply on the claim size thread when i get 1

and the claims are not bigger anymore, only slightly, like i said in the other claim size thread, i think the claim sizes for ore on foma have dropped by 2 sizes, cos we find a poor IV now on foma, where as before modest VI was the smallest claim on foma for ore.. so you see the claim sizes is 2 sizes smaller, so if we are due to get a XX then we would get an XVIII instead

which is total joke, and a loss of a few hundred peds think about it guys, there is something seriously wrong,

It might be better now, i dunno.

but makeing things easier and more "streamlined" might not be that good... If things get to easy the complexity that many love will dissapear.

Im no miner, but i still care about all participants and i hope the majority will like the changes.

keeping my fingers crossed.

Now when can we have an auto hunter? or a kill, stop shooting, loot button :D

1. those that wanted to mine both already had gear for both so now they lost money cuz all finder now find both. many pll now have 2x of the finders/extractors thats kinda worthless (and the tiered ones i wont even go into).
2. before you just changed the gear on a fastkey but now you have to use the mouse all the time (not easyer).. and its a pain if you only wanna amp for one type but still mine both (thats screwed)
3. same thing before but you just changed finders.
4. decay is the same as it just decays depending on what you do.

i used to mine both before by dropping bomb - probe - bomb - probe but i wont be mining both anymore as i dont want to drop em both at the same spot. so now ill have to make em 2 seperate runs.
before 50 bombs and probes went a while but now ill need 100 bombs and probes to cover the same area by mining both at the same time and ill have to time it even more cuz before the range was covered by changing bomb/probe every drop, where now ill have to keep track of when to drop.

i still like the change tho but i will still mine the 2 types seperately by making 2 runs i think.

i have found poor on FOMA unamped many times before so its not a new thing. but i think ore mining is bugged tho.

I like the new changes also, but I would of prefered they used bombs instead of probes.
Just feels weird mining ore and seeing a probe.
But the more I think about it, if you had to choose between the two, the animation of the probes better suites mining.

Firstly, thanks for your input.:)
But my point is ... it is the natural progression of things to combine things to make it easier for everyone. First we could only use browsers and email on our home computer and make calls on our 'brick' phones... and now we have smart phones that does everything. We used to drive to the shops to get a Map to go to an unknown place.... and now we have GPS/DVD/Bluetooth etc inside our cars. Do we have a few old phones and 486s in our storage ... I know I do... although at the time it felt like I have these equipment lying around that I wasted money on ... I would never go back to my old mobile and 486 from my iPhone.

I think it is human nature to resist progress because we get too comfortable with our current situation and any change threatens us. In time I think it will be fine :)

Agree mate :)

any crafrers lost peds with good QR on his BP`s exemle?
Time will show that better...

Agree mate :)

well i did say i like it but i dont think it made mining more easy ... maybe even more tricky cuz now you have to do alot of changes if you mine both ore/matter and only wanna amp for 1 of em.
then you still need 2 finders + you need to change the selection in the finder every time you change em.
like i said i used to drop bomb - probe- bomb - probe and with the change ill have to use 2x the amount of drops to mine the same area if i drop for both at the same time (can be good or bad depending on the luck).

i know ill adapt to it cuz i have been here for a long time and have seen ALOT of changes over time :D

i think he means that many miners have ore and enmatter tools and so now many will want to sell mining tools.
