A hunt with Lootius

Welcome one and all to the wonderful world of calypso. For any person to survive in the wilds of calypso, They need to know how to hunt and to hunt you need money, PED's (project entropia dollars) and PEC's (project entropia cents)

Just who is this lootius guy?
There are many theories in calypso about how looting works but we at the church of lootius believe that looting is controled by an all mighty diety who favours select people with his bountyful loots.

What is looting?
For those of you who dont already know what looting means, it is the reward that you might claim from any MOB you have managed to defeat. Remember that not all MOB's will carry loots and those that do may be carrying small change or items to vast amounts of money and valuables

MOB's
the creatures that roam calypso are reffered to as mob's (moveing object). a mob will be displayed as a red dot on your HUD's radar some may be hostile and some may be passive finding that out is up to you ;). MOB's come in different maturity levels. these maturity levels will determine the difficulty of the mob in question. for example a "young" mob will be the weakest of its kind and an "old alpha" the strongest
NOTE: maturity levels of different MOB's cannot be compared. an atrax young's strength cannot be compared to its dakiaba counterpart.

What will i need?
The basic tools required for hunting is a weapon and weapon cells (appropriate to weapon class). If you chose a "melee" weapon, this will require no form of ammo. If choosing a gun then you will require weapon cells appropriate to that weapon. Cells can be purchased from a "trade terminal" in a service station. Ranged weapons are devided into 2 classes BLP (binary liquid propelant) and laser weaponry, each with its own skill. This weapon class wil determine the type of ammo required (BLP packs for BLP weapon and weapon cells for a laser weapon) these cells also come in sizes Small, Medium, Large. To find the approriate cell size for your selcted weapon, right click the weapon to view the information. Ranged weapons come in 3 different types aswell as class these types are: pistols, carbines, and rifles. Each weapon type has its own unique quality and as you progress further into the game u may wish to purchase 1 or more weapons from each type.
If u have the PED's u may wish to buy some armour which will give you added protection from MOB attacks. Another tool you may wish to buy is a FAP (first aid pack) which when used will restore small amounts of health. like most things in entropia you will be able to buy varying types of faps, the more expensive the more health it heals

What weapon is best for me?
To start out, the best weapons can be bought from the trade terminal (range weapons). the Rep-edge battle axe 1x0 (melee)[/B]. will be sold in Port atlantis by other players for minimal prices, and will be a good starting melee weapon for new players. As your skill increases you may choose to upgrade to a better weapon but for now it is best to stick with one of the above

Equipping my new items
Equipping most things is simple. open up your inventry by pressing the "I" button or by clicking the small medical pack symbol on your HUD. to equip your items simply drap them from your inventry onto the small model of yourself at the side of it. You may also equip items to the "quickbar" to allow access to items much easier, but not all items can be assigned to the quickbar. to assign sumthng to the quickbar, drag an item from your inventory to an empty slot on your quick bar. Now your item is on the quickbar u will be able to easily access it by clicking the item u want on the quickbar or by pressing the number key corresponding to the item you want.
NOTE: ammo does not need to be equiped, as long as the ammo is present in your inventory, the gun will load when you equip it

Into the frey
Now ready to attack a MOB, head away from the town until you find a red dot on your radar. with your weapon equiped, approach the MOB and click the muse too shoot at it. Upon being hit the MOB will begin to move towards you until it is at pointblank range were it can attack you. keep shooting or slashing (and using your FAP if you need) until the MOB dies. The dying of a MOB will then allow you to loot it. To do so just click the corpse and if your lucky your efforts will be rewarded by the great lootius.

Dying
unfortunatley, lootius takes pleasure in watching something die and DOSNT grant you the powers of invincibility. Luckily for you, calypsian scientists have made it possible to resurest you and by pressing the "t" button, you will be taken to the nearest "revival terminal".
NOTE: when you die you will NOT loose anything in your possesion.

Assesing the damage
After a hunt you will find that your equipment has lost some value. it has Degraded. unfortunately there is nothing you can do to stop your equipment degrading and there for it is important to maintain it using a "repair terminal". when accesing a repair terminal, a repair window will popup displaying your inventory and a small terminal next to it. To repair your equipment, drag it to th window next to your inventory and a repair price will appear. This price is the cost for a FULL repair. By using the slider, you can choose how much you want to repair it so that you have the required funds for a repair. When happy with the settings, click the accept buttton and your equipment will be repaired.
NOTE: different items will decay at different rates to others

Team hunting
A mob too difficult for you? or do you just want some company. When going out hunting, it is possible to form a party with other colonists. To create a team open the ACTION BOOK and scroll down until you find the "team" action. Select the action and a display will appear. From this display, type in a name for your team. When team hunting, any loot gained from a mob is devided amongst your team. How this loot is divided, depends on what LOOTING RULES you set. Looting rules can also be set from the team display and you can choose how any items from a loot are distributed and how any money is distributed to your team mates. once your team is created, any members in your team will be able to see the loot rules you have set by using the team action. To invite any person to your team, open up the action book and use the "team invite" action
NOTE: it is NOT possible to loot any dead MOB if there are no members in your team

Final word from lootius

This is just a simple (well...you know what i mean by that  ) guide and 90% of the learning process is to do it yourself. dont be afraid of dying as you learn from your experiences.
there are many experienced players around and its important that u make use of there knowledge. most players will be more than happy to answer your questions and even take you to places you cant reach yourself.
Finaly, remember to say a quick prayer to lootius before you head off for your hunt!

To start out, the usual weapons are the Jester D1 (carbine) mann mph (pistol) Rep-edge battle axe 1x0 (melee). these will be sold in Port atlantis by other players for minimal prices. As your skill increases you may choose to upgrade to a better weapon but for now it is best to stick with one of the above

Sorry, but I completely disagree on this part. The TT weapons are by far the most efficient weapons for begginers due to their bonus to train up skills int he beggining until the stats on the weapons are maxxed out. And also, of course, because tehy are the only non-limited weapons that can ahve their stats maxxed out before maxxing out skills themselves (Which nobody has still accomplished).

Apart from that, nice guide! :)

If you ment those thinks above to be linked, they are not.

And imo Sollomate opala is better than jester d-1 because it has skilling bonuses. Although jester may be cheaper to get but then again, it's good to save up for opala

not links no they are just supposed to be names of the guides

GUIDE UPDATED: whats best for me

apparently the tt weapons were upgraded last VU and are now better for begginers sorry for that =)

I would agree it appears the newer tt weapons are benifical, now skill gains are offered
I have booth but have just started using the opalao as it still offers skill bonuses, howeve the d1 offers a slightly rate of fire per min so I will use the opalo untill I stop getting skill bonuses (it tells you when you wont get any more in the stats) I will go back to the d1.

The enblade-A the big sword I would have used but I wouldnt get a skill bonus from it now as I have about 1k longblade so for me its the axe-1, and it offers higher dmg then the sword available from the tt.

I use a combination of axe and opalao when hunting and skill bonuses from the rifle include other weapons use as well if this makes sense.

I use rifle to draw in mob then hack it into pieces with a blunt axe ;) if I get a skill bonus it shows longblades aswell. I will try to get a screen shot next time as I dont know wether hunting with two weapons offering skill bonuses give twice as many skills

Just a thought Im not sure of this atall
It would be good to see comparitive graphs for the newer weapons with the d1 and axe against the tt weapons to see if any appears better that way, Ill have a search tomorrow :)

ur thoughts are more than welcome here rotten ice, as i said in the guide, its important to use other players knowledge and its nice to have opinions on what is what =)

guide updated with team hunting =)

Very nice guide. There are many good guides on different topics around here.
One thing I would really like to see though is all the outdated guides being updated or removed. Especially if they recommend guns or other stuff which is outdated since the latest VU.
I think the guide makers have a big responsibility here, they can't just write something and never look at it again, well, they can, but then there's a big risc newbe's will get false info.
So Wozza, very good work and I hope you'll update it when new VU's come out.

Good guide.

I can give some input on the Melee TT (Enblade) versus axe 1x0. Even without the skill bonus, I still skill just as fast or faster with the axe due to better hits and being able to fight for longer. The enblade IMO is painfully slow and even with the higher stat for damage, I get higher damage rates from my axe. Also, the maintenence and initial purchase price are better for the axes.

Just my 2 pec, spend it as you will :dunce:

bumping up

cooming soon...

Im going oto take some screen shots and add them to the guide for those of you whom are more visual learners rather than aural learners and if ur kinesthetic u shudnt be reading this damn guide :p

Thanks for posting this guide. I think I'm starting to get the idea behind the game now. A better tutorial would help in the game, but it would never replace the experience and efforts of other players :)

LOL that ingame tutorial is getting on my nerves now, for some reason it keeps coming up no matter how many times i press ok

wow no need to be like that wozza
