When I started PE (about 3 weeks ago Lol) I seached for basic info for a noob miner, and found nothing, As such I decided to write somthing for the Noobie miner. I will not get into tactics, or any advanced stuff, others do that far better than I 
.
First, Mineing can be expensive. Chances are you will not break even till you establish some good spots (see below).
Tools- You will need tools to mine. You can mine 2 types, En-mater(energy) and Minerals (Stone, iron etc). Which is better is depending on what you want to do (see opinion below). All the ones listed here are found in the TT, but better ones can be found on auction, after you know what you want.
Unfortunatly each use of the above uses "ammo" which are listed below. Each try on your dectector uses one Probe/bomb. This is where your major cost comes from. Probes are 1ped for 2, bombs are 1ped for 1.
Now once you have found your Mineral/Energy deposits, you have to get them out of the ground. To do that you need one of these..
Lastly Once you have your minerals you CAN (but do not have to) refine them. Relize refining makes them useable by crafters, but costs Peds (you have to buy and maintain a refiner) However, if your on a long mining run, and get lucky, these help you carry more, and lessen your weight.
Opinion- How you should mine- I have found that their are areas that are better. once you have found these you can keep going back, and hopefully have a steady flow of stuff. This isnt always the case. Their are as many methods of mining as their are miners, but I have found that If you find a claim, generally there are more around that claim, so look.
Bombs vs Probes... This confused me for the longest time. You CANT find minerals with a Probe, and you CANT find energy with a Bomb. This means if you need the minerals for somthing (ie crafting) you will probably need both, and write down many "fields" for energy and Minerals. If you are only mining to possibly gain a little extra peds, then Buy only Energy, Oil is used in tons of stuff, and Skilling, and sells pretty well, and Probes are 2 for 1ped.
