Melee vs Ranged

decay isn't really an issue. for each type of weapon you can find efficient models. Axe 2x0 for melee as an example.
With ranged - you are able to save decay on your armor because you can kill the mob before it gets to you.
With melee - you gain defensive skills at a faster rate.
So, which is more important to you?

i picked axes, which are, in my mind the obvious answer. an Axe does a LOT of damage if you have the skills, and some are very effeceint. with only 1.5k xp in longblades, i can hit 60 with a repedge 5x0. axes are also the best for training, and for teem hunting, if you have good def skills. with a repedge 2x0, no armour, and no fap, i can actualy PROFIT on most hunts. axes are the clear choice for the unexperienced player(repedge 2x0) and Uber (repedge 5x0) alike!

I like laser.
laser pistols have a lot of nice SIB guns at nice prices with good economy
also rifle has some really nice guns now.
I love to have range to more easily pick my fights.
There is so many weapons to choose between now, so you will probably get a different answer from every one you ask almost
The most efficient weapon in the game is the imp mk2... But very few people can afford that, or even get a chance to buy one
Also, you need very high skill to be able to use it fully.

Melee is dead, as well as MindForce, MA will not follow this path. The last VU's should have made this clearly visible.

Just upgraded to level 4 chips!
But it is a shame there arent many more powerful available and a low variety.....Heal, Blast/Firestorm(if you can afford that), focus, that was it.
TP doesnt count.

If you do melee for gaining defensive skills you can also wait to shoot with your gun until the mobs getting closer using a gun.
You even get those defensive skills if you dont try to kill the mobs at all, so in that case no weapon would be better if its just the defensive skills you're after.
I skilled lb up to 4k and than I switched to guns, wish I did that switch earlier.

And if i loot ammo, i pump my low weapons with it. Sometimes even Jester-D1. I have tons of weapons...
When out of fuel, i sweat and kill exa young-old, combibo...
