Jermaine Johansson: “You’re watching Entropia Breaking News. I’m your host, Jermaine Johansson.
Why did the robots attack Treasure Island? Did the RX know about the Vanguard? What role, if any, does the Egg play in the robot invasion?
Tonight, CDF Ground Forces Commander, Brigadier General Yevgeny de Souza, joins us to answer these questions and more.
Commander, about the invasion - how are we doing?”

Yevgeny de Souza: “We’ are holding fast, but just barely. The efforts of volunteer colonists have bought us some time to mobilize reserves and recall forces from expeditionary missions to fight the invasion. Also, the forces and assets that were moved to Amethera after the attack on Treasure Island will be moved back to Eudoria.

Jermaine: “What about Treasure Island? What about the Egg? This whole thing started with an attack on Treasure Island.”

Yevgeny: “The robots have shown no interest in Treasure Island, or any other part of Amethera, since the main invasion began. Our theory is that the attack on Treasure Island was simply a feint, intended to force us to move forces to Amethera, thus weakening our positions on Eudoria.”

Jermaine: “Some high profile colonists insist that the robots are here to destroy the Egg. What do you say to those people?”

Yevgeny: “… As I’ve told the Xenobiologist on numerous occasions, the Egg was only worth protecting because the robots appeared to show an interest in it. As they no longer show an interest the Egg, there is no longer any reason to protect it.
Look - we have never faced an invasion like this before. The very survival of our colony is at stake. The idea that we would set aside vital assets to protect an egg, when every man and woman is needed to fight the invasion, is ludicrous.”

Jermaine: “Speaking of the Egg, an incident at Treasure Island involving a CDF soldier and the Egg was caught on tape by EBN crew.
The RX tell a CDF soldier about a new robot weapon - days later, the Vanguard appears. Were the RX trying to warn us? To help us?”

Yevgeny: “First of all, we have no reason to actually believe that the soldier in that video was in contact with the RX. It’s not like the robots introducing a new unit during an invasion is unheard of. Anyone could have guessed that. The soldier is currently undergoing a full psychiatric evaluation.
Secondly, if the RX were in contact with the soldier in question, they also convinced, blackmailed or brainwashed him to destroy the Egg. The RX may be neutral, but they are still robots. We’ll deal with them after we’ve dealt with the invasion.”

Jermaine: “… Alright, thank you. Anything you would like to say to our viewers?”

Yevgeny: “Yes. Recalling troops from Amethera and mobilizing reserves will only do so much. We still need all the help we can get. Colonists who want to volunteer should check the CDF bulletin and contact CDF personnel for more information.”

Jermaine: “Thanks for joining us, Commander.

Up next: A special on the Vanguard, titled Fancy footwork - How to survive an encounter with a Vanguard, right after these messages from our sponsor, the Chikara corporation.”

It was a pleasant day. The morning began with the sun shining its golden light upon the landscape of Eudoria. As the sunlight brightened, so did my mood. Although, in all honesty, it was not only the pleasant weather. The coffee helped as well.

I had had a terrible night of sleep, dreaming those dreams. The ones where I am eaten. It usually starts with Trox, but it's gotten worse. These days, I even have nightmares of puny creatures.

This morning, I took a bold decision; I was going to take the day off. No work today. Sure, that would put my long-term financial goals back a bit, but what use is a battery when it doesn't get recharged every now and then?

I slipped in my comfortable attire, packed something to eat and drink and strolled to the nearest TP. There, I spent a few minutes to decide on my destination: Jennifer's Island, or perhaps the beach at Corinth. I choose the latter.

    I shouldn't have.

Upon arrival in Cape Corinth, I noticed an unusual amount of people there. I smiled, as I thought that perhaps something was going on. A beach party? Or even a music festival? Such a lucky coincidence.

I entered my hoverpod, to drive along the beach a bit, in order to find a spot to plant my hiney, drink a few moonshines and just waste my day away. As I drove, I saw some fighting. Low level drones were easily defeated by colonists. My first fright as seeing robots here was ushered back to sleep by the ease with which our defences held. I felt secure.

    I shouldn't have.

I drove on, crossing the large flat sandy plains just east of the TP. And that is where misfortune struck.

One moment, the plain was empty, then, suddenly, it was filled with... I do not know what it was.

They just seemed to TP in at the same moment. Twenty or more of them. Huge, metal machines. Like giant spiders. And all twenty turned to me, and started firing.

The structural integrity of my vehicle lasted for 3 seconds.

    I lasted for another second.

Then, I was overwhelmed by this all-too-familiar pain and red haze. Remembering the CDF warning about too much pressure on the revival terminal system, I wondered if this would be the last time I died on this planet. Dead, without having found those riches promised when I arrived. Dead, eternally dead.

I was revived, as you can see, but the revival process was slightly scrambled. It took me days to recover from my injuries. Many days I spent in the hospital ward. Awake in pain, or asleep... haunted by new nightmares. Nightmares which will be with me for a long time to come...

Jermaine Johansson: “We interrupt tonight’s recap of the invasion to bring you an update on the swarm of objects detected by CDF satellites last night.
As if fighting an invasion wasn’t enough - it now appears that Calypso is being bombarded from space. Thankfully, not by the robots.
CJ Weave is reporting live from the field.”

CJ Weave: “Thanks, Jermaine. We are currently at the crash site of one the many meteorites that have struck Eudoria over the last few hours. Crashes have been felt or seen near Ashi, Minopolis and Cape Corinth.
So far, no casualties have been reported, but the damage to infrastructure and property is calculated to be in the billions of PED.
Imperial Zoological Scouts are currently moving in to investigate the meteorites... CDF obviously... hands full... invasion…”

    Jermaine: “CJ?”

CJ Weave: “… going in... closer look, before... arrive...”

Jermaine: “CJ, the feed is getting very unstable. Can you hear me?”

CJ: “... solid black metal... glowing...”

    Jermaine: “CJ, you’re breaking up.”

    CJ: “… The meteorite...
    ... it’s MOVING! …”

Jermaine the anchor: “CJ? CJ..? Well, folks, it appears we have... once again... lost the feed.
Our technicians are hard at work trying to get the feed back up as soon as possible.
While we wait, I would like to remind our viewers that Exodus Space Station is not a refugee camp. Any vessel entering our protected zone may be fired upon. Thank you.”

Jermaine: “We interrupt tonight’s broadcast of “RX - Enemy among us?” to bring you a special report from our reporter in the field. CJ?”

    CJ : “Thanks, Jermaine.

    Calypso is under attack.

I am reporting to you live from Fort Ithaca, where a CDF heavy tank company under command of Captain Lena Belmont is currently making last preparations before joining the frontline.

    Captain Belmont, what is happening?"

Captain Belmont: “ You said it: Calypso is under attack. My company is just about to move out to help lift the siege on Athena.”

CJ: “What can you tell our viewers?”

Captain Belmont: ”If you can help, then come help - if you can’t, then stay out of our way.
Attacks have so far been reported at Nymphtown, Minopolis, Port Atlantis and Athena Spaceport. Robots, of course. But we’re ready for them. This is what the CDF was made for. This is what we live, and die for.

Hold on, I’m receiving a transmission.

Okay, listen up, boys and girls; plans have changed. Man the turrets and get in your tanks, they’re coming our way!”

Jermaine: “Well, folks, there you have it. Calypso is under attack. But don’t worry: yours truly will keep you updated with the invasion from my secure location here in Exodus Space Station. Stay tuned for the latest official casualty reports!

For EBN, I’m your host, Jermaine Johansson.”
