News: MindArk Signs Deal for Unreal Engine 5 - PRNewswire

This is incorrect actually. UE5's major thing is how efficient it will be able to push out "good looking" graphics.

I promise you a potato will still be able to play entropia as long as MA has an ability in programming/coding/design/ etc.

This is not what I've seen from multiple reviewers. Granted, they are mostly AAA games.

Couple more nice looking resources MA may want to consider...

Forest Environment

Rainforest Environment

About the most realistic Unreal Engine 5 scenes I've seen yet, but will prob have to add an extra gfx card come the time.

Some extremely interesting news about Unreal Engine 5 as a development tool.

So many great changes, watch around minute 6:35 to 7 if you want a quick view of what Mindark and Entropia will be able to do with this amazing game engine.

If U see crisis 1 and cryengine 2 that this game have, U will understand what could be done if good hands was on project

THATS HOW THIS GAME COULD LOOK

P.S.
What they do now is just way overt date

If and Could* hit me so hard 😁

Edit* Clothing part could be exciting but they would need hire degsiner and someone with passion/creativity.

I dont have much hope in that regard sadly considering current armour update...

I see what you mean,

However, it is not a fair comparison. Crysis 1 was released almost two decades ago.

Comparing their game engine, and what is required to make it look good, to Unreal Engine 5 is like comparing a scalextrics car to an actual car.

The whole point of the video I linked was to showcase a handful of the latest features implemented to Unreal Engine 5, and what makes it so good. It does not require all the work, it's literally made to be simple for the developers. Do you believe the CryEngine 2 is simple to work with? lol

I also have to wonder, do you think the video you just sent "look good" ? Did you see the features regarding realistic humans in Unreal Engine? The clothing? The PCG? About the animations? absolutely amazing tools for creating games! And Mindark is going to use these tools. Imagine all the possible developers who can work on Entropia, instead of the chosen few that know and can use CryEngine..... with all the spaghetti code currently in Entropia.

The FPS can be counted on one hand,
the environment looks like shit, being 2024.

Afaik, CryEngine was never meant for MMORPG's either.

I wish people could look forward towards the new amazing engine that Mindark has chosen to work with, instead of looking back at some decade old video shouting "MA could have done this!"

no, they could never have done that.... :p

My Point is that that They got tool, but no one in office that can use it, since 2007 that engine was used in lot of productions.

But funny You mentioned that Cryengine was not made for MMORPG's. If You look up web there is even tone of tutorials how to use it to create MMORPG's.
Maybe You know game AION? Just for example.

The mains switch from CE to UE5 is based only on company budget, instead of paying for licence, and even what would be smarter before for engine upgrade to current version. We will have UE5 that is based on % pay from yearly income made by game. So Yeah be preppered to add this -5% to your returns, up to other maintance%, company%, share holders% deeds holders%, land % and what ever % they will try to create.

I have a friend who worked on CE3/Crysis2. who did comment similar about it not really being a great choice for MMO. I think Mindark had to do quite a bit of ground work in the early days to get the whole seamless world/tiling thing to work. CE was designed for "levels". Honestly I think they did a good job on that much of the work. It's just a shame that so much else was left out/compromised one. Again I remember my friend commenting about how a lot of the animations wouldn't work with the way MA did things. This would be why we never had the whole thing like in crysis where the character's gait adapts to the terrain.

Some people said 2-3 years and that was back then i personally don't think thats feasable as that was back then so many years later they still havent shown us the progress they made. By the time they do get something it will prob be obsolete ! Game has other issue that need to be adressed aswel and it's not only in terms of Graphics. Game has balance issues !

Another one MA may want to look at clouds.... and free....

maybe try and bring back some of the old clouds we had back in the day. Not that there is anything wrong with CE2 clouds etc... they are pretty good and get some nice screenshots from them but there was a certain something ot the look of the old sky boxes...

who cares about the clouds, give us explosive recycle 4-10 variants, so we can click $20000 at the time.

There's nothing unreal about these clouds at least, and a lot more interesting than the BBC weather forecast.

It looks like they've abandoned the project or deadlines altogether.
Not according to their interim report or any of the recent letters to shareholders that have gone out over the last year.

What deadline are you thinking of? I don't think Mindark set deadlines....

On the entropialan the 18 of may they told us that instead of a hard switch over to UE5 they will move system by system slowly so they are working on it piece by piece.
Yes, the new UI is part of that slow transition. Though I think its more along the line of getting systems compatable with the new engine. I think mining and hunting might be due for a makeover next.

But My stated months ago in EU discord server that the new UI is for this engine and not what it will be like in the UE5 version. So basically she said the UI will be new again in UE5. But I am guessing it will be similar anyway.

I don't see the point of doing that. Why go to all the trouble of creating a new UI is it's going to replaced in UE5. The only thing that I can think of is that the UI is compatable with both but would need some minor tweeks and changes to run properly in UE5. Can you give a link to that discord post? I have not seen that.

i'm not a UE5 expert but I've done dev for well over a decade....and for the life of me i'm not sure how you convert "one system at a time" over to UE5 when you're using CryEngine. like, in terms of visuals and assets and that part of the pipeline, sure. but in terms of actually converting the bulk of the game logic to the new engine, that seems like it would be the lion's share of the work and CANNOT be done "piece by piece".

Playing Senua’s Hellblade 2 and, even though the developers have gone for the cinematic "blurry" effect, the game itself looks 100% incredible. It looks like a very well done cgi movie, but in real time o_O

Keep in mind that it's probably running on UE 5.0 or 5.1 at most, so it comes without all the later optimizations that epic introduced. If you can run this game I bet you'll be able to run EU when the time comes.

Could be a good test.

Cheers.

Requirement for Hellblade 2 in case anyone is wondering.
