This is my impression on what space will be. You find your own means to get to the mothership -AKA VTOL into your LOCAL space, to mothership. There, you join the crew (pay, or whatever for a ride) Then you take a job on the ship -Gunner room? -Torpedoes? Next, the mothership pilot chooses...

IMO the average player will have around 5k per in assests. It really isn't that much considering the investment for some of the gear that's required. Plus the safety you get from gold card if you deposit 500 or more. A better question would be around 10k usd. THATS alot in game!
