IRS tax loot...so...basicly, game goes bust through lack of players ?

IRS go tax someone else! (please)

yay finally we will get a IRS building in PA to monitor everyone so we dont make any money... :silly2:

Well then the players should get money back (from the tax guys) if they lose money IMO

as far as i know, paypal accounts are still tax free untill you withdraw as well... so smart sellers are just waiting till they have huge sums of money in paypal then withdrawing when they hit the super rich g.w.bush and friends type tax breaks

it should (and prolly will be) much like this for eu , 2nd life and the likes

a) they (tax authorities) can, will and do tax your virtual earning once transfered into real world assets/cash.

b) they wont go after virtual world before making some agreement on paypal (as mentioned) accounts and wider general internet sales.

c) they wont be able to tax within MMO once they decide they want to, as the companies will offshore (potentially taking thousands of jobs). last time i checked MA was beyond the jurisdiction of the IRS. The Swedish authority have already made their position clear, VAT/sales tax* are technically liable but unfeasible (at this time). *between/involving European Union based avatars.

seriously IRS can tax my a**, I don't live in their country and in mine, our IRS is too dumb to know what a virtual world is (as in a lot of other countries)

There are always ways around all this you know, charge the bullets and opalos and armours and fap and every other damn thing as a business expense for tax break purposes.

Seriously, 99.999% of people dont make anywhere near enough money in this game to be liable to pay tax in America, let alone the rest of the world so until MA decide to make it possible to make money then no hope for them lol

I like the way WoW was mentioned, it is not even legal to trade gold in those games so you just know they are talking out of their ass.

I was thinking that as well. I believe that you can write off casino losses on your taxes. Not sure though.

Thats assuming you are liable to pay taxes in the first place ;)

I was reading an article somewhere that states that the tax you pay as in VAT is actually a tax for retailers to pay, not buyers yet you still have to pay those charges...there are lots of bits of tax people (especially Americans) pay simply becuase they do not have a clue what is going on...or cant be bothered finding out :p

If people were told to pay tax for these games enough would be bullied into paying it that the rest would fall into line, but for me they can go to hell.

There is no way on Earth I am going to have my playtime taxed.

The way it works in the USA is that you can deduct gambling losses from your gambling taxable income. In other words, suppose I spend $1,000 in a given year on lottery tickets. If I win a lottery prize of $10,000, I can deduct the $1,000 spent on losing tickets and only pay income taxes on $9,000 of my winnings. (always keep your losing tickets pilgrims) If you have no winnings, you can't deduct your losses from your income tax. Under $600 prizes don't have to be declared so don't matter.

np, lets pay taxes when we win but let the government give us some benefits and tax credits when we lose. telling ya they will give up this idea if suggest something like this to them. :D

living of entropia (or other virtual worlds for that matter)

With Government leaching every cent out of the population to keep large corrupt corporates standing, it will become harder and harder to live of "non commen" or flexible means of income.

taxing is only possible when:
1: you are located in an area,
2: you are rich enough to be taxed
3: you are dumb ( or lazy ) enough to be taxed.

Take large company's for example, they all have their main office in some sort of tax heaven, and still hold their hand up to the governments to collect "loans " and guarantees. Thats like a person, not paying tax, but receiving social benefits.

there is no reason you can't do that as well. Its perfectly legal. and possibly a awesome way of living!

One of the successful concepts of archiving this is called " perpetual tourism", or perpetual traveler ( pt ).

doing this means you travel to a nation, stay the maximum allowed of time there as visitor, than move to another nation for the maximum a mouth of time.

the maximum length you can stay there, vary, from nation to nation. in the USA, a visitor can stay 122 days. some nations only allow 2 month visitor/ or tourism visa's. Most nations have a 3 month visitor visa policy.

on average this means moving each quarter year. The downside of this, is usually your "home"nation's policy's. they want to tax you. this means you may only go back to your home nation for a limited timespan. Otherwise you are considered a "taxable subject.", this varies per nation.

there are a lot of disadvantages in this way of living, but lets try a better variation.

the pt carousel.

5 or 6 ppl, join together in a informal friend group. they all move to a different nation. previously determined. all in contact using skype.
this nation should be relatively cheap to live in.

like this:

family , nation , location.
1 Spain Sevillia
2 Mexico La paz
3 Venezuela coro, or maracaibo
4 turkey allanya
5 usa somewhere in utah or bc or so.
6 namibie walvisbaai, or windhoek

each person ( or family) tries to find the cheapest, safest, most luxurious, comfortable way of living in that area, for a budged of say 1900 -2000 dollars/ month.

Every 3 months the groups swaps.( eg, moves one down the list.)
to the house, or "life" of the other person. and tries to improve the living conditions in that area. finding a better / safer/ cheaper home. looking for better ways of transport. the best local doctors. etc etc. how to get Internet etc. etc.

You can organize a "one month vacation swap " for all to get together"
This way the carousel "improves" quite quickly.
Also you can have one family each that moves to another nation, Broadening the "viable living places ". (experienced families doing this report a living costs of about 1300 dollar / month including the flight tickets etc. )

swaps with other carousels could be possible.

When you at the same time take a international bank account, like the ing-group. or credit suise, or any trusted one, you can deposit and get cash anywhere.( tip use debit accounts, not credit accounts, thats a lot cheaper)

you than can live your life of the net or virtual world, see the world, and live tax- free in places witch are ( usually ) a lot better than what you live in now.

there is also an other consideration.

tourists are usually better treated by governments than they treat their own ppl.

( open your mind)

( above concept is not illegal in any way, it also does not stimulate illegal behavior, it does stimulate smart behavior)

good idea, but if you have kids and a wife that is not working on an internet-related job, then u're screwed.
