Become an Emissary for Entropia Universe

April 11, 2012 /GameBlast/[/h] - MindArk announced today that it will implement Socialtype's Bamboo software...
Socialtype hasn't implemented their own "Bamboo" software, but outsources it to MindArk of all companies.

This could become a wake-up call for Socialtype (who-/whatever that is).

This software app allows players to gain in-game rewards for their own recruiting initiatives taken on social sites
This kind of settles, once and for all, arguments whether or not EU is a pyramid scheme, doesn't it?
("in-game rewards" = money. RL money)

Explain how EU itself is a pyramid scheme other than this?

It is one thing to target this in particular and another to condemn the whole EU as pyramid scheme.

1. Pyramid schemes are illegal in European Union.

2. Pyramid schemes have a completely different cash flow direction.

Huh? Why would I do that?
I pointed out it settles any arguments about it.

MindArk is the sole owner of, and runs EU. It's MindArk doing this; they provide this proof themselves. If anything, MindArk has some explaining to do - explain how this could be considered to not be a pyramid scheme, for starters.

EDIT: On a second read-through I see the error in my reasoning. It's not obvious this is a pyramid scheme.

Granted, there is no saying you will get x% of the deposits (or losses) of every peep you manage to get to pay MindArk, which could possibly be a requirement.

Then again, I'm not convinced that's really a requirement. Just the part where recruiters get rewards for recruiting could be considered bad faith enough - but I'm not a lawyer.

There is ofc a way to NOT spam the crap out of people when you're using a Facebook app. Or at least specifically choosing who you spam.

First, consider the app and who of your FB 'Friends' might actually be interested in hearing about EU. Perhaps all those MafiaWars/Cityville 'neighbours' who already waste time and $ in playing games online?
Don't add any of your FB Friends who already play EU, that's just wasting your time and (more importantly) theirs.

Then create a new List.
To do that, on your NewsFeed page, clik on the MORE that shows when you mouseover the FRIENDS header on the leftside menubar. That brings up the Friends page - use the "+ Create List" button on the top right to create a new Friends grouplist. Let's call it "EUSpamList".

Then, when you're using the EU App, and are asked to add something to your Wall, don't just blindly clik the 'share' button, first clik the Friends icon (which is usually just to the left of the 'share' button) and select the 'EUSpamList', so you're only sharing with that specific group.

Can we please get referral links/banners that we can use outside facebook. In other forums, websites etc. And to make it worth our while people who bring new people/depositors in the game should get 3-5% of the deposits. Thats how it works online casino / poker industry.

Will get a lot of Noobs and Work for Mentors. Have published it at facebook and 3 Hours later 5 People jojned EU. 2 already think they leave so i think most will look and go but hopefully a few will play and stay :dunce:

Start treating your customers better and you wouldnt have to use sucker tatics to grow the popuplation you ass backwards morons.

Bingo! ... Also, tired to get investors in about 3 years back to buy an LA, but most did their background research and dropped out for some reason .... Meeting one of them back from Hong Kong next week to ask exactly why they backed out .... What did they find??

So, i'd be promoting EU to my Facebook Friends? Many of them rl friends and family members??

I think I'd rather stick my arms in a woodchipper.

I have never understood this kind of comment on threads like this about recommending Entropia Universe to friends ect.

If you think the game is that bad then why the hell do you still play.

I think I joined...keeps me at the "join now" or "enlist now" page...what do I do next? I've already clicked join/enlist a few times...

Ok problems solved with a relog.

I also drink too much alcohol, and I wouldn't recommend that to my friends either.;)

how could I look my friends or extended family in the eye after they lose thousands of $ at a game I suggested they "invest" in.

Where did anyone mention or imply depositing? There is no extra reward for your friends depositing. All they have to do is play.

Yes for some this isn't the game for them. Need to look past the money you put into the game and look at the fun you are having. Now if this is a problem then well, as in past posts here, you shouldn't be playing.

OK, this is illogical. There are millions of games out there to enjoy for free on Xbox, ps3, wii, pc .... The difference for playing EU is the "money" part. Now, I don't know about you, but most of my mates that are remotely interested in gaming already have some kind of a console or PC, so if it wasn't for the point of difference that EU has that is "money" ...why would they even bother ???

Not sure if I can name any games here, but last Xmas a game came out , which had dragons and Nordic skeletons and warriors and scrolls (wink wink) .... Now when I started playing it I posted a comment on FB to my mates who play similar sort of games... And guess what? They were already playing it ... So, if it was just for fun, people would already be playing EU, they don't need to be dragged in... When you try to promote something, you don't promote what it has common with other games, you promote how it is different.

The only point of difference EU has over other games IS the economy, so stop kidding yourselves and stop screwing it up!!!

Problem is, if they did that, they'd be competing with casinos.

The only difference EU has over dozens of other games is that you can convert your ingame coin to real world dollars and withdraw it. Its the withdraw feature that makes EU unique.

Maybe they can use their old slogan, 'Tired of killing monsters and not getting paid?'

The problem with that advertising slogan is it implies that everyone will make money playing...

That's kinda like McDonalds having a slogan:

"Tired of eating food and not losing weight?"

And there is Mindark's problem.

They can't advertise their game using game to game comparisons because those games give you more fun per dollar.

So if they advertise using their one distinct feature, the ability to withdraw money you make in game, they imply that everyone profits.

It's a tough spot.

Maybe they can go the route that Dudley Moore went in Crazy People:

Entropia, for gamers who like the thrill of a big loot but are comfortable with losing their money.

can you judge a someone by the company they keep?
if the linkup with SEE was a disaster waiting to happen, what about socialtype?
if i was looking to spawn the bastard child of satan i think my best chance of success would be to mate a advertising executive who writes cheesy facebook games with a designer of games for the casino cruise ship industry and the developer of loyalty programs for the online travel industry

Promotion is not hard to get right if the other elements of your marketing mix are in place,
a strong product at the right price almost promotes itself.

Now is EU a right product at a right price? Much debatable. They should seriously stop advertising the number of registered accounts which will only lead to disappointment when people login. Need I refer to the EULA which extended the time an account can be inactive compared to the past which I seriously doubt is solely for the benefit of inactive account owners and more to sustain the number of registered accounts.

Port Atlantis currently looks too clattered and if I was a new player, I wouldn't make it to a populated place without first deciding to uninstall the game. I believe a good starting point is to create a new spawn point closer to Neas' Place. Improve the game from within before you advertise. As mentioned before, fix crafting. Drive demand for sweat. All these issues with a blind eye turned and forcing advertisements out on a product that is unrefined.

The problem with that advertising slogan is it implies that everyone will make money playing...

Everybody who kills monsters in this game gets paid, possibly just not as much as killing monsters costs. Much like changing to a higher paying job need not mean more disposable income, if your commute ends up costing more than salary increase (after a couple of raises to gas price).

Of course, it would be more correct if they said something like: "Want to make a business out of killing monsters, mining or crafting? Come to Entropia Universe!" Now what they would say to attract people who don't want to play like they were running a business, is another, and harder, matter.

But that implies EU is a job, something I play games to get away from ;)

They are stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding EU advertising. Can't advertise it as gambling as they'd be shutdown in an instant, make it sound like a job and people will think it's boring (which camping mobs is tbh).

Right...

Which means they are NOT getting paid, they are PAYING to kill the monsters (paying to play).

I think that most people have the perception that being PAID means making money, or making a profit.

This is how FALSE advertising starts. When you say "convert game coins to real cash" it automatically gives people the idea that you can play the game free at any level and whatever you win you can convert to real cash ... Which is pretty much FREE money.... Not the case at all. You are actually converting real money into game money first and then converting it back if you are REALLY REALLY LUCKY.

MA really needs to stop promoting this FREE play shit ... Which are putting a lot of people off. I had 5 friends already came and left because they don't want to sweat all day and they got nowhere even after depositing 10k plus in a few months. Now when I start talking about EU at parties, they go "are you still playing that stupid game??" ... To that I go "no it's awesome" ... They go "yeah whatever"

I would LOVE to promote EU and bring in people who can fork out a lot of money but how? ... I got nothing to say to them apart from.... Oh you can Travel inside a beautiful universe?.... Hang on! That would cost you money .... You can hunt really cool mobs?... Hang on! .... That would cost money .... You can mine.... You can craft... Oh sorry everything except standing around like a bum or sweating pigchickens will COST money!!!

The slogan should be more like: " BE THE GAME !!! ... No literally ... We PLAY YOU!!!"

Maybe they could advertise to all these new hippies that think FB credits should be currency so that they can get paid for...(I don't actually get their "logic"). But hey, it seems they want to stay at home and play gameswith money value. And if they can Camp the trade hubs with the dedication they have while camping in a park, they should end up making money.

(Not to mention they'll make fun PVP targets)
